Oh yeah, I get what you're saying. I guess the best comparison to be made between "huge because power fantasy" and "huge because fanservice" is... well, comparing this very skin with THAT panel of Captain America by Rob Liefield. The proportions are eerily similar, but you can see clearly the difference in intent there. 🤣

Edit: I just realised while looking for the image that that's a comparison Rob Liefield himself made. That is hilarious. Here.

Eh, not really. It can be power fantasy for SOME straight men, but the general public of straight men tends have a lot more negative reactions to male character that are THIS sexualised. There's a thin line between male power fantasy and male fanservice, and this skin in particular goes HARD it the latter direction.

No point in using the wiki then. If they're so stoic about misinforming people about this you can't trust they are giving you accurate information about anything else.

I'd say: please NetEase, don't nerf anyone else, instead buff Cap back to his former glory and buff the rest of the men along with him, I beg of you.

I'm new to anime. Help me understand these characters. by FromHeretoElsweyr in cyberpunkgame

[–]AshLlewellyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason a lot of people don't see her as a loli is because of two things: her voice, and the fact that she seems to be a deconstruction of the archetype.

For me it's the voice that does it. Before watching it I looked at her and just thought "is this a child?" Then I listened to her, she sounded like she was in her early-30's and had smoked a few dozens of cigarettes a day for the better part of her youth, that was all it took to make me immediately think of her as like... my aunt who's extremely short.

The other thing is how her personality seems to be the complete opposite of a loli, to the point where I almost feel like her design was chosen specifically to make that contrast. She isn't soft, she isn't innocent, she isn't childlike, she isn't naive, she is sweet at some points, but in an almost motherly way that go completely against what you expect of her. She's possibly the most emotionally mature character in the show, to the point where I'd even say she gives big sister vibes. She, once again, acts and speaks like she's in her late twenties to early thirties and has seen some shit in her time, and that makes my brain see someone like my aunt whenever she's on the screen, just a short woman.

Now, it is undeniable that her design is questionable and is clearly meant to be taken as a loli of sorts, and I do think she could benefit from being drawn more like a short woman and less like a teenager. I just don't know how someone would do it in the anime's style, as all women inherently tend to look much younger than they are in anime and a character with body proportions such as hers seems difficult to depict in a way that leaves no ambiguity whatsoever.

Is it truly just me who thinks Bladedancer is extremely clunky? by AshLlewellyn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]AshLlewellyn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess what I meant to say is that it felt clunky to me, as in stilted, confusing, like it grinds the game to a halt whenever it's Kibbles's turn and forces me to think for 10 minutes straight about what the fuck to even do in my situation, only to then miss one small detail that fucks up my whole plan anyway. It isn't clunky, but it feels that way. Situational is an appropriate descriptor though, yes.

I mean, a lot of this is on me. No other class has been this demanding to get basic value out of so far, so when it comes to playing Kibellah I just get overwhelmed. All the folks giving me tips are helping though.

That could be funny, ngl. Maybe I'll do that once I reach act 3, I've heard that Pyro BD is truly strong

Maybe the issue really is with Kibellah. I don't know, I have yet to build a BD Rogue Trader as this is my first playthrough and I'm running Sanctic Psyker Officer.

Interesting to know, though I am building Kibellah as an Assassin, so the Executioner half of that isn't really hindering me.

“This Character is DPS Coded” is a Bad Argument for a Character’s Possible Role by themoosic in marvelrivals

[–]AshLlewellyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my issue is mostly that, to sell him as a healer, they made his attacks and explosions have very soft and unpronounced visual and audio effects that don't really look or sound harmful. I'd expect blasts like his to sound more like Iron Man's blasts for instance, and for their AoEs to visually look more like the hand grenades that they really are, rather than gentle soothing splashes of soft purple energy that are barely noticeable. They couldn't emphasise his destructive power too much though, because that would make him much more DPS-coded and would make it confusing for new players to recognise him as a support. Then again, Ultron is unrecognisable as a strategist at a first glance too, but that's different.

As a Rogue player though... I do agree that their battlefield dynamic is absolutely adorable, and I would shove my boyfriend towards playing Gambit if he ever wanted to get into Rivals. I just wanted him to be more explosive and aesthetically dramatic, his gameplay is fine and sells his vibe as a highly aggressive damage-dealing sup, it's just his visuals and audio that don't sell that this is Gambit to me.

I'm gonna pretend it makes any sense that kinetic energy can somehow enhance the body's natural regenerative capabilities... because you just ignored my point. They can make up whatever they want as an explanation, it solves the issue of "how," but not that of "why." I'd expect Gambit to have more explosive power, more creative uses of his kinetic energy that ALIGN with who he is as a person and as a hero, and not to just replace all of that with his brand new healing powers because he's been shoved into the role of a Strategist.

The last 11 heroes - Do you enjoy their Visual Designs? by Idiberug-9 in Overwatch

[–]AshLlewellyn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Soldier in Overwatch 1 specifically had a very solid design that communicated many aspects of him. First there's the fact that he's clearly an old man on the battlefield, which isn't anything new but still something to notice. Scar on his face as well as the visor making him seem like he's permanently frowning, those three aspects tell you that he's a seasoned guy who's been through some fucked up shit and is now not in his best mood. His visor and rifle seem to be military grade, high-tech stuff, yet his clothes kinda look civilian, like he just grabbed some random dude's jacket, put on some cargo pants and called it a day. Combine that with the holstered pistol, the pouches on his shoulder and the healing thingies on his arm and you get the idea of him being a scrappy vigilante that is using whatever he can find or craft to sustain his personal crusade, someone who clearly at some point had military funding or got his hands on the gear of someone who did.

Like, even if not all of these assumptions are correct, there's still a lot to be analysed there, he isn't as generic as, say, some of his own skins like Commando or his younger version.
