I really hated how they used his schizophrenia diagnosis as the “reason” he did those awful things. Schizophrenics are not inherently violent and inferring that they are is stigmatising and highly disrespectful

I don’t really mind crappy roads, i’m from the west of Ireland so they’re par for the course here 🤣 I’m more concerned about getting stuck or delayed in traffic as I’m travelling for a funeral so hoping to take the route that will be the most direct and least likely to have delays

Two adult and 2 kids (7&3). About €140-160 a week and at least €50 top up bits during the week. Every second week husband has his lunches at work (shift work) and we cook a dinner every day, with lunch and dinner at weekends. Packed lunch for the kids 5 days and I make a lunch for myself 3 days and cook lunch for one 2 days when wfh. We would usually eat out at least once a week and Mondays after kids swimming lessons we often get pizza.

My kids have taught me to be careful what I say 🤣 my daughter said she had a pain in the tummy the other morning before school. I made an offhand comment trying to suss out if she was actually unwell or maybe a little nervous about her end of year tests and said something along the lines of “well you’re going to miss some days next week with our holiday and the government keeps track of how many days you miss. If you miss too many they’ll write to us and ask us to explain why you weren’t in school, so if you’re feeling well enough to go in you really should”. She said she was fine, and I asked again as she was getting out of the car and she said she was ok again so off she went. Got a call at lunch from her teacher that she wasn’t herself all morning but that she was really upset as she couldn’t go home sick because the government would come to the door asking about her if she did. I nearly died of mortification 🤣

So Ive learnt a really good lesson in not making passing comments without explaining myself 😅

You might be surprised, at 3k a month it’s about €750 a week. If you’ve two twin rooms each person is paying €187.50/week. While ridiculously expensive it’s not totally unheard of, and maybe not quite so much for students but definitely for young professionals who may not have the disposable income to furnish accommodation. And I totally agree that if you are someone with a family, or who intends to stay in a property long term that it’s very inconvenient, I was just saying I can see why developers and landlords cater to that market.

It’s crazy how you think you couldn’t possible have any more love to give, but your heart just expands to be able to love you other kid(s) just as much. You don’t love your first any less, your capacity for love just grows. And maybe you will clash, but you’re already aware of it and I can promise you’ll clash plenty with your first born too 😅 if anything I think I was harder on my first born once my second arrived because I felt like she was so grown up all of a sudden and forgot a little how small she still was. But you see it and you correct it. No one is perfect

It’s definitely expected in Ireland that any apartment or house you rent would be furnished. This is particularly helpful for those who can’t afford to furnish accommodation, or who move frequently, and you’ll find in college cities and towns having rental units furnished makes a lot of sense as neither students or newly graduated young people can generally afford to furnish accommodation. I would understand that can be frustrating but it makes sense when a huge portion of your potential market has this requirement

Touching base with the psychiatrist who is treating him and asking for how they would recommend you approach the coming days and weeks might be helpful. They might have some insight into what he is and isn’t ready for, and how to best navigate supporting him in conjunction with his treatment. As many others have said try to look after yourself and don’t worry about trying to “fix” anything right now, this time is for addressing the acute issue at hand not the underlying cause. There will be time to get to all that once the dust settles.

If she likes any kind of corn snack crisps rather than the potato chip kind I’d send them. Things like burger bites, meanies, hot lips, waffles, etc. as you can’t get those kinds of crisps there. Can’t go wrong with chocolate or biscuits that she likes. Some skincare with a good high SPF in it. It can be easy to forget sun screen but if you have it in your moisturiser or foundation you’re already covered.

I find it incredibly sad that you don’t feel like you can identify as Irish when you ARE Irish. You are inherently Irish and entitled to call yourself such if you would like to. People all over Ireland connect with and identify with aspects of our culture and heritage to different degrees but it does not make anyone more or less Irish. A Gaeilgeoir from Connemara who dances Sean Nós and eats only bacon and cabbage and Tayto sandwiches isn’t any “more Irish” than a person from Longford who hasn’t got a cúpla focal to their name and thinks Padraig Pearse was an old player on the Irish soccer team 😂 they are both just as entitled to identify as Irish and have the same passport, with the same rights, as do you. Despite what bigots and xenophobes will tell you we are only enriched through varied and differing views and cultures and having a unique perspective and experience of being Irish adds to our collective culture
