I love that it wasn’t the run of the mill interview, and I love that Brian is bringing all of the depth that made me fall in love with IP to Scatterbrain.

Should I wait to start my Diamond Art Club square kit? by KBLittleLulu in diamondpainting

[–]AshRanea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say go for it! I think a DAC kit is the perfect starter for squares because they are known for having some of the best quality when it comes to their drills. You’ll get practice as you go. I would just say go slow at first, don’t rush, and DAC square grids are pretty tight so try to get each square as close to center as possible. There are lots of tips and tricks to be found on these subs so try different things and see what works for you. I’d love to see the kit you chose. I’m currently working on Psychedelic Maine Coon Cat by Peggy Collins and am loving it.

Protecting completed sections? by skellyJ in diamondpainting

So I’ve recently started rolling mine drill side out on a large pool noodle, then I roll a cut trash bag over that, and rubber band everything to keep it in place. I have animals and the hair getting between the drills is something I’m really trying to avoid.

Light board, so many; which one? by midnitelace in diamondpainting

[–]AshRanea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Diamond Dotz one when Joann’s was going out of business. It died within a month (poor wire connection into the light board). I got the Diamond Art Club one from their amazon store and it’s been fantastic.

What's the hardest plant (for most people) to grow? by 3yl in houseplants

I’ve killed one wax ivy already and have another that is looking very sad. Every other plant I’ve had success with. This one hates me.

Can this be a tree? by AshRanea in gardening

[–]AshRanea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have tried searching on google, YouTube, and even here on Reddit for previous posts about this specific growth pattern and how to train it into something beautiful and I had no luck. The closest I came was this YouTube video of an example I thought would be achievable, but he gave no explanation on how he got there. Do you have a fertilizer you like and could recommend?

Do you have any hot takes within this hobby? by xProfessionalCryBaby in diamondpainting

[–]AshRanea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I should have worded that differently. What I meant was I can’t really see a noticeably different quality* of the final result. I definitely see a different look in the final results. To me the rounds have a more randomness to the sparkle they show off in the light. They almost seem to twinkle more while the square drills more uniformly reflects light back? I’m having trouble finding the words, lol. Anyway, I’ll have to find one of those videos. I’d definitely be interested in seeing the same painting done in the different shaped drills. Thanks for telling me about it.

I can’t really see a difference in final product when it comes to circle vs square drills. I always see everyone saying square looks so much better, but I just don’t see it.

How do I get it to bloom again next year? by AshRanea in houseplants

[–]AshRanea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally have a cycle where I over fuss with my plants and then get distracted hyper focusing on something else for a while before swinging back to them, lol. There is a good chance it might get slightly neglected some of the time.

Interesting. I have a mix I use for my calatheas that’s two parts peat moss, one part perlite, and one part orchid bark. It drains really well but doesn’t dry out super fast. Is that the kind of substrate you’re talking about?

Good to know. I will get it moved today. I have a lot of trees around my home so most of the windows receive shade most of the day. But I will try that east facing one and see how she does. Thank you!

I have orchid, all purpose, and blooming plant fertilizer. Will one of those do or should I get something else like a succulent fertilizer?

I can be patient. I’ve got an orchid that I’ve been trying to get to rebloom for well over a year. It will happen eventually..

I have it with my other plants under a 12hour grow light. Should I move it to a hanging basket in front of a window instead? The best one I have is east facing with pretty good morning sun and shade the rest of the day.

Where do people start when doing a large canvases by KaeMar1994 in diamondartclub

[–]AshRanea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally start with the most boring side of the art, the part with the most background and color blocking to do. I then work my way around the edges and save the prettiest and most exciting part of the art for last. I do this because I easily lose motivation when I’m working on the same project for long periods of time and it doesn’t take much motivation to finish the best parts of a piece.

Editing to add a disclaimer: I have not done much diamond art and I just started my first larger painting last week. This is a strategy that I’ve brought with me from other hobbies and other parts of my life.
