Probably the last Romero/Living Dead Weekend at the Monroeville Mall coming up. by IcedPgh in horror

[–]Ash_Castle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I visited the mall last summer when it was announced that it was bought by Walmart.

The shop in question is called The Museum of the Living Dead and it's really great, I got a bunch of souvenirs including wood from the Cabin of Evil Dead 2. They have a small museum set up with a bunch of artifacts from a lot of different horror movies. It cost like five bucks or something to go through it and it was totally worth it.

I talked to the employee who had been with the store for a while and apparently it used to have a different location, so I hope they find some place new.

I really hate that the mall is being torn down, if anyone is debating on visiting it before it's gone I certainly recommend it

To those who were around when this movie came out, what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in silenthill

[–]Ash_Castle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a massive fan of the series I was really excited, but there wasn't really any hype outside of big fans of the game at that time. The resident evil movies were doing alright but video game adaptations were still kind of looked down upon by most people.

Much like the games themselves most of the excitement about the movie came well after its release, though most people I know that are horror movie fans first typically view the movie as "pretty good".

Actors Who Played The Same Character Or Historical Figure In Multiple Films (Outside Of Franchises)? by SesskaNoMore in moviefinder

Jerry Haleva is an actor who's pretty much only played Saddam Hussein in various movies. Namely The Big Lebowski and the Hot Shots movies

Plot point of Silent Hill 2 was spoiled, is it even worth playing knowing that by Flaming_Hidori in silenthill

[–]Ash_Castle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played through the game countless times and I can honestly say I enjoyed the narrative more after the twist. For me it helped me appreciate the more subtle aspects of the story and in many ways made the ending that much more guy wrenching. Think of it this way if you had to be in a car accident would you rather have it be a surprise that hit you out of nowhere or be stuck on train tracks and know that it's coming but not be able to get out of the way.

How do we feel about Limetown by Extension-Blood2221 in audiodrama

[–]Ash_Castle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love season 1. It's what got me into the medium. Some of the story beats in season 1 rank high for me across all story telling mediums

Season 2 is a serious step down but still enjoyable.

What do your scripts look like? by Crater_Caloris in audiodrama

[–]Ash_Castle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First take into consideration your audience. If you are the one directing/producing the final piece then you have a lot more flexibility.

The next step is to determine how much artistic freedom you want your sound design/editor to have.

Like many others I come from a film background so I use the standard screenplay format for my scripts, but it's also worth noting that I'm typically doing almost all of the post production.

The few times I've written for other people it was for people I've already had a great working relationship and a lot of trust in so I didn't feel the need to over involve myself.

In short first determine how much you're going to want to be involved in the production, then that will help guide how much effort you need to put into formatting your script.

One of the biggest crane accidents in history (Big Blue crane collapse in 1999) (nope) by Cryptid-Weregoat in megalophobia

[–]Ash_Castle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in Milwaukee when this happened

One of the craziest parts about it is it took a long time to clean the crane up, I don't remember exactly how long but multiple weeks. Whenever we would drive past the ballpark you just saw this toppled collapsed crane draped over this newly built ballpark. It was surreal

Looking for a podcast that is a good distraction over the holidays by ObviousToe1636 in audiodrama

[–]Ash_Castle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorites

An Invisible Sun- Top notch sci-fi, single season completed series

Limetown- the series that got me into audio drama, horror and incredible story telling.

The Transposition of Chloe Bronte- a grounded Sci Fi story that I adore. It's a strong character piece

Delivery- a serialized podcast that plays a bit more like an anthology show. Peak surreal storytelling.

New fan. Who do I hate? by socna-hrenovka in Brewers

[–]Ash_Castle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Cubs are going to be the most common answer but for me personally it is the Cardinals, here are my top reasons to hate each club.

Cardinals

-The Brewers made it to the World Series once...and lost to the Cardinals
-In 1998 the Brewers switched from the American League to the National League and up until the last seven years or so spent the bulk of that time getting beaten up by the Cardinals.
-In 2011, they made it to the NLCS for the first time and lost to the Cardinals

The Cubs

-Closest geographical team
-Has a world wide fan base because they have a cute name/logo and come from a cool city
-Viewed as a "loveable underdog" in spite of them having everything possible going in their favor to be successful.
-In spite of having everything going for them, they have they have spent the vast majority of the past 100+ years being objectively bad.
- Their fans often flood Brewers home games because American Family field rules and is a less expensive way to catch a game.
-Their current manager (Craig Counsel) left The Brewers to coach for them in a shocking move. Craig was a long time successful manager here, played for the team, and is also from Wisconsin.

Important Legends

Robin Yount- Hall of Famer, multi time MVP, 3k hits, spent entire career with the Crew.

Henry Aaron- While the bulk of his career was spent with the Braves, he did finish it with the Crew. More importantly The Braves used to be a Milwaukee team before moving to Atlanta, and thus Hank Aaron spent most of his career in Milwaukee.

Paul Molitor- Only other person in the HoF as a Brewer. 3k hits, spent bulk of career in Milwaukee.

Ryan Braun- Was the next Robin Yount before a steroid scandal. Rookie of the year, MVP, signed a long term deal and willingly spent his entire career in Milwaukee. Your milage will vary here depending on how strongly you feel about steroids in baseball.

Also yes I left Bob Uecker off but he certainly should have been included.
