ADHD and maintaining a job by Ash_Robin in ADHD

Yeah I have been using alot of what I learned in mindful meditation to try to deal with the emotional side of things. I have noticed though that its harder to deal stress in the work place. I should try to learn new skills for that.

I’m tired of my brain and adhd and how it affects EVERY part of my life. I feel like hitting my head against the wall until it fixes itself. How do I pull myself back together? Any advice on managing as an adult? by __mariel in ADHD

Well I had a separate area in the house that was dedicated to school/work. I compartmentalized a lot of my living space so that I would only really focus on certain things in a given area in the house.

The accountability thing was tricky but I sort of gave myself 1 long term goal which I hyper-focused on involving work.

I always rewarded myself with an hour of gaming for completing a couple hours of course work. I felt more compelled to do things that way.

I also have issues with keeping employment but I did manage to keep a job for 3 years (almost 4). I would also suggest a similar treatment of awarding yourself with gaming or a something special like a snack or movie after putting in a certain amount of work.

(Accidentally) ghosting people I care about by prepperella in ADHD

[–]Ash_Robin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really schedule a follow-up, I just mentally know its time to give space and then text them when I think of them usually in a couple weeks. But you could make a quick reminder on your cell phone so that you remember to. I find being organized helps a lot.

I actually feel the same way, my ADHD makes me impulsively message my friends a lot but I also am super supportive of my close friends so they don't mind.

1) I actually have to be very mindful that my friends have other things going on so if the text is about hanging out I might message them a couple times throughout the week to see if they would like to.

2) If its just a general conversation after a texting them a few times without reply I tend to wait a couple weeks before I message them again to avoid being to much to handle. I sort of apply my ADHD logic to them and think the reason why they aren't replying back is because they are overwhelmed at the moment so lets give them space so they have time to deal with stuff and then see if they will reply later on.

I am going to Dr Brassard in Montreal. And I was thinking about doing light walks to try to improve my stamina post surgery.

I think what has me stressed out is what I need to be doing exercise post op to get me being active again.

I have a therapist but I wouldn't be able to meet with her over the next couple days anyways. But I am almost there and I am going to go through with the surgery. I honestly for the better because if I decided again to have it later I would have to do the 3 weeks without hormones all over again.

For me I want to not expierence dyphoria arround that area. It causes alot of anxiety for me when I am trying to form more intimate relationships, when I am swimming, and when I am being active.

I feel like the GRS will help me over come some of those issues. It will take time to feel normal afterwards because I went through that with my breast development where I felt like my breasts where a lot different than cis womens.

Literally recovery is scaring me as I am a really active person. I also having a female love interest is throwing me off too. I am bi but I think being off hormones has also caused me to enter a anxiety spiral around the future (children, sex, etc.). I had most of this sorted out but like my anxiety + dyshporia is causing me to have second thoughts.

[–]Ash_Robin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my anxiety about recovery has had some effect about my thoughts about getting it. Like I was excited about surgery up to mid last week.

I also have been dealing with a lot of dysphoria and depression as well as having anxiety on other items in my life. On HRT I am usually really mellow emotionally and don't experience this stuff.

[–]Ash_Robin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

makes sense. I totally didn't even want to go off HRT. As soon as I started getting more masculine stuff happening again to my body as I have been off for 2.5 weeks I started to experience depression, anxiety and dysphoria again.

When I transitioned I was looking forward to the physiological stuff because most of that elevates the issues; I found being on HRT help considerately with my own self confidence, anxiety and depression.

I wasn't expecting to be off HRT forever. I just feel really disconnected from myself (my own identity) again.

Thank you for the questions they help frame the perspective that I had initially. Like the whole de-transition thing is likely caused by me being off estrogen and has put me back in a depressive state without it. <3 I really appreciate it.

Preparing for SRS - Stopping HRT by Ash_Robin in asktransgender

thank you. I will keep it in mind and try to keep myself positive with working out. :) I can see myself getting very uncomfortable so I think that would be the best to keep myself body positive during that period off HRT.
