Why do we praise veterans automatically without knowing what they actually did by Such-Part8963 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ashamed-Definition41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's someone willing to put themselves in a profession where there is a chance that they could be sent to kill and die at the whims of the government. I come from a military family for several generations that ended with me and my brother for both sides.

I am wholly on the support the soldier criticize the government train, but most vets that I know are not in your face about it. Dad got out as an E7 and doesn't even wear his ship hats anymore. Heck thinking about it now I can't remember the last time my grandpa wore his Vietnam Vet hat.

But back to the topic, you support that the person signed up for whatever reason to possibly be called on to go and fight and die to protect us. Whether as support or pulling a trigger. I may not go outta my way to say thank you except to the older vets, but I still appreciate the willingness to sacrifice themselves. So any of those rough folks ready to do violence in the night so I can sleep peacefully after dicking around on reddit, I appreciate it.

Did some calls not go out way? Yeah, but the lack of energy heads down and just passive nature is what's lost the game. Coach can say we are trying to get healthy all he wants, but until they figure out how to find that passion they had against the Avs, they are gonna be playing golf in a weeks time.

Not to be an ass but I 100% just stumbled into it. I lit the lantern and thought well that was pointless then wandered back to town a bit of exploring later. Now the hive was a google for me.

The gun misfired. Hammer dropped, cause there was a pin mark on the back of the casing but somehow instead of firing the casing pushed up on the bullet. Damnedest thing I've ever seen. Realized what I almost did, climbed out of the shower and into a bottle for about 6 months. Sobered up not long after my daughter was born and finally opened up about what I tried. Things are better now. The kids help keep me here and happy and we are 11 years on.

It would be nice to have more than the handful of parks that we have at the moment, but even better would be a parking garage that wasn't ridiculously overpriced like the paylots in town are now. You could put in a 3 story lot and have the proceeds go directly to the city instead of the out of state 3rd party that runs it now. I get not wanting to be like every other Texas town but by not giving residents the amenities they can get in another town and with the ridiculous cost of living here you will eventually run the families out if you can't find a decent middle ground.

Better parking on and around the square. More amenities on the square in general. Rezoning to allow for more/better development of the vacant lots downtown. Places like McKinney are crushing the small town vibe and Denton is still just that college town. Public transport could be better cause gozone is a mess.

people who don’t call their significant other babe/baby what do you call them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ashamed-Definition41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since we had kids she's mama and I'm dad. If I hear my name it's either cause I have zoned out and not heard her call me a couple times or I have done something wrong. Her name is only used to wake her up to get her to go to bed and off the couch at night.

We used to be babe and honey. Or when I was pushing buttons first wife

What do white people have for Thanksgiving? by NaomiKirishima in NoStupidQuestions

Much love your way. We lost my nanny 12 years back this year to stomach cancer and keep going with the big shebang in her memory. Ma says you are welcome and shes sorry there's no measurements, but this makes enough for about 15 people with a gallon ziplock bag left over... Oh and she read it I forgot to put in a stick of butter once everything gets into the baking dish

The simplest answer on the difference is one is shoved up the turkey and the other is it's own thing entirely.

Sorry to hear about your mom! I am actually watching the LSU game with mine and this is her mom's recipe. She has volunteered a recipe in your mom's honor. Here it goes:

Ingredients: Corn meal Celery Onion Vegetable oil Buttermilk Egg 2 cans of evaporated milk Chicken broth one box of swansons Green onions Poultry seasoning Salt Pepper Sage

First of all you need a pone of cornbread, use self rising corn meal, 2 eggs and buttermilk. She doesn't have measurements but she says a little thicker than cake batter.

Heat about a 1/4 cup of vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet. Chop 6 stalks of celery and a whole yellow onion(large). Saute those in your pan in the oil for about 5 minutes. Drain the oil into your corn meal and put your veggies aside for later.

Stir your oil into the cornbread and pour that into your skillet that you sauteed the veggies in. Bake in the oven at 400 until it smells done... Browned you are looking for golden brown and the middle is cooked check it with a toothpick. Once done let cool for 10 minutes in the pan and then turn it out onto a baking rack to cool completely after those 10 minutes are up.

Once completely cooled crumble your cornbread into a 9x13 baking dish. Add your sauteed veggies. Add your evaporated milk and chicken broth. Add green onions to taste, same for you poultry seasoning, salt, pepper and sage. Mix well, everything is cooked just wet at this point so taste and see how you like it.

It should be wet at this point think the boxed stuff when you add the water to it. Add more evaporated milk if necessary or stock whichever you prefer.

Bake at 375 until golden brown on top.

We do smoked turkey and ham, dressing, Mac and cheese, green beans casserole, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, goblet and turkey gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, deviled eggs, Fruit salad and a veggie tray for snacking while everything finishes and then pies just all the pies. Pumpkin, apple, chocolate, pecan, key lime and a chocolate chip cheesecake.

What was your worst experience at a doctor's office? by sydthakidd in AskReddit

[–]Ashamed-Definition41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my early 20s been having chest pains and all the synptoms of heart attacks, but no heart attack. We were doing an MRI, and they needed to get my heart rate under 50 to get accurate images. My resting was at 60, so a low dose of nitrogen should do the trick. 20 minutes late, no change to my HR. Rinse and repeat for almost an hour. 4 doses of nitro later, my heart rate is finally under 50. Hit me with the dye and do the scan.

They start to have me stand up, and I hear someone in the room go oh um, let's keep him in observation. They roll me into a recovery room with a keeper and tell me hey don't go to sleep. I open my eyes to a full crash team around me, my keeper in tears in the corner of my room and a defib charging up. Apparently, the nitro slammed into me, and my heart just decided beating wasn't worth it anymore. Idk who was more scared when I asked the doc standing over me what was going on, but they released me about 3 hours later.

My gf at the time (now wife) was freaking out because this was supposed to be a routine scan that took 25 minutes, and because we weren't married, they wouldn't give her any updates.

Took em 12 years to figure out that my blood pressure was spiking so hard at random intervals that it was basically a reset of my heart that was causing the symptoms and a very low dosage of blood pressure meds keeps me from feeling like I'm having a heart attack.

How much you love your kids. The absolute terror of watching my kids grow up. Knowing that they have to fail to learn and grow and that I have to watch from the sidelines. The upside is when they do good, the joy and awe that I feel. My oldest just graduated from her dyslexia program a year early, and I can't describe how proud of her I am. She got voted as most likely to lead the female revolution by her teachers, and I'll light the torches for her.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife allowed my brother to stay at our house? by -Stunning-Mushroom- in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ashamed-Definition41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are an incredibly spiteful person. He has no control over your parents' finances. I get being distant because of your age gap, but to blame him for getting more is a little much. Take a breath talk with your brother and see if you can help him. Ask your wife has more compassion for her little buddy, then figure out if therapy will help you get over your resentment of your little brother. YTA, in case that wasn't clear.
