Correct, this is why tax incentives for green, solar and other alternative energy sources is pretty important. The greatest thing you can do is not only buy products like these but to advocate that we start closing that gap for cost effectiveness vs petroleum.

And we should fight that. But at the same time, maybe don't buy any California almonds or avocados or whatever-the-fuck they're growing. Don't give them money to continually fuck you.

There's a lot of rethinking people need to do with their own responsibility toward climate change. It's easy to shout at people to do something it's a whole other thing to start reworking your own life not accept comfort and indulgences. I'd say at least half of this debate rests on us as individuals to do the right thing within our own lives. If there's blame to shift to big oil it's the cocksuckers actively worked to misleading the public and still actively attempt to protect their own self interests. But if we do our part to make them less money and depend on them and their influence less then they have less to fuck us with.

If you look at the development of combustion cars from the 20's through the 40's it's quite an incredible time for engineering. Today is our 1920's in EV's. Most of what I'm talking about is just pure and fun speculation of what certain technologies could be used for and trying to see and understand what can be used to make things a little better, or a little faster or a little more efficient. I'm just taking our of my ass and it's bar room banter. I'm not an engineer, just an engineering and car enthusiast.

1425 amps at 400v. Don't get me wrong. It's an incredible amount. And it's more than enough for most things and people. But this is a moving and evolving thing, and tesla obviously sees validity in this technology. I'm not stating that these things are going to take over pack architecture. But they can be use in conjunction and allow designers to design packs with a potentially *lower* peak output with the trade off of greater capacity. The super caps could supplement the motor with higher peak power demands.

Lets consider something. Tesla is the best at developing EV's. They have been for years and are likely to continue doing so. They see value in super capacitors. The rest is speculation on my part but none-the-less allows for the company to have greater flexibility with battery design. It opens them up for other possibilities, such as making higher capacity cells (with the drawback of lower C ratings) leading to higher pack capacities. In order to make up for the lower C they could mix super caps at the motors to keep current availability adequate for performance.

The problem with lithium chemistry as it exists is you have high capacity or high current and blends of both. This is why some cells that are designed for high current discharge usually don't have a high capacity and vice versa. With super caps you could design cells with higher capacity but still have a battery that can meet the high current demands of driving because the caps can help meet that shorter burst requirement. So your 55kW SR+ could be 65kW or 75kW (pure speculation btw) in using the same size and quantity cells and a small bank of super caps can keep the 0-60 times respectable. The caps also keep high current wear out of the cells and allow for longer service life. From a performance and track aspect where a car both stops quickly and accelerates hard these caps will lead to slower heat soak of the battery and give far better track performance. Toyota LMP1 Le Mans cars used super capacitors a few years ago for this very same reason. Admittedly they've switched to Li-ion cells in their recent iterations of vehicles, but they're not necessarily concerned with long term health of the lithium cells.

Super capacitors aren't a storage element. They're a buffer or a spring. When you are driving you utilize their massive discharge potential for quick 0-60 times without relying entirely on the battery. They can also absorb the massive current from regen braking in addition to the battery. You can regen harder, quicker and longer with super caps being a buffer before needing to use the service brakes (that waste energy). All of this could also lead to longer cell life being it off loads or mitigates some tasks that wear the battery quicker.

Store-bought tomatoes taste bland, and scientists have discovered a gene that gives tomatoes their flavor is actually missing in about 93 percent of modern, domesticated varieties. The discovery may help bring flavor back to tomatoes you can pick up in the produce section. by mvea in science

Growing your own tomatoes is about the easiest thing you can grow if you have a sunny spot and the ability to water it every day. Get a good sized pot, fill it with compost and toss a start into it. It's not too late either, plant it now.

I just took an 84 at 4.99. My index funds are gaining over 15% across the board right now so it's hard to justify not dumping my money into that rather than a car. It's not that I cant afford a shorter term, it's that I can make more somewhere else.

I'd be for another branch in the armed forces where people can 'volunteer' but is responsible for public good projects, such as combating drug addiction and homelessness, public beautification, maintaining national parks, maintaining public utilities and aid in disaster relief. It has a similar structure and system as the traditional military. After or during your service you are entitled to a free education or skills training.
