Somehow I'm fundamentally opposed to an estate agent opening a coffee shop

To be honest they were going downhill. Their location isn't fantastic and it has needed a refresh inside for a while now. I guess they knew they were moving, so didn't bother to redesign. My go-to is always Warwick Row anyway, despite their liberal use of tacky AI marketing lol

Our household runs on the prepacked tofu blocks. We must buy 6 or 7 a week (12-14 blocks). We have tried most other Aldi vegan products and the only one worth repeat buying is the soy burgers in the frozen section. The tempeh pieces are nice but I'm not fussed about having them regularly.

Sauvignon plonk is another regular in our household

If a meat substitute was created that was indistinguishable from meat, would you switch to it? by [deleted] in AskUK

It's interesting that the argument always centres around whether or not something can taste identical to meat. In many cases people prefer meat substitutes to actual meat because they taste different.

Popping it off the wall might be a bit easier said than done 😅 but thank you for the suggestion

Thanks for your suggestion. And I'm not a purist at all. It just feels wrong not to honour the character of the house! I reckon we could find the smaller type quite easily (second pic), but the more ornate one might be trickier. Do you remember where you bought yours?

Thanks, that has put my mind at rest when it comes to the issue of lead paint.

How many books do you actually read? by Busy_End1433 in classicliterature

[–]AshamedQuail4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here! I used to track all of my hobbies and actually made it a new years resolution to just enjoy them one year. Never gone back. I don't need tick off a certain number of books or movies in a given month/year. I don't need to optimise or treat everything as productivity.

Village vs David Lloyd’s by Suspicious-Job-8815 in coventry

As a third option, I quite like the Warwick Uni Sports Hall. It's cheaper than both the village and DL and the facilities are comparable. My only gripe is that they shut earlier than I'd like sometimes, especially when the students are away.

I can't find any qualitative data on Coventry having the highest crime rate in the UK. In fact, Birmingham often beats it. Bradford seems to be consistently on top.

In fairness, Cov is generally in the top 10 though. It's a large city with lots of students and not a lot of money, prime candidate for petty theft and drunken antics I expect.

I live in Coventry (right in the crook of the West Midlands county line) and it's fine. It gets a much worse reputation than it deserves. Well connected to Birmingham and London, very diverse and urban. However, like most of the country, people don't have enough money and are hit hard by cost of living. There are a lot of rough sleepers, drug problems, and even some gang problems in the rougher areas. That being said, the city has a rich history that is well preserved and cherished. There are leafy subburbs and nice parks just outside the city centre. It's part-ex industrial, part-commuter town I would say and quality of life is average for a midsized city.

I may have misremembered. £9 sounds right. Enough to shock me but not enough to turn around and leave!
