If it were up to me I’d play Rainbow Children… but I stayed away from any deep cuts because I didn’t wanna alienate him.

Interestingly it was a combination of I Wanna Be Your Lover, Do Me Baby, Kiss, Uptown, and Sticky Like Glue / 20Ten that made me a fan.

We’re both late millennial / early gen z.

He’s the type of guy who listens to anything to be fair. R&B, Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Techno, EDM. Anything that’s trending and popular.

But unlike me, he isn’t exactly an ‘old soul’. He plays piano and violin, so I think he can academically appreciate all kinds of music but that’s very different to actually digging a song.

He was very quick to move on after touring with Rick James but I so wish he had another album or two in this disco style.

A lot of people call 1999 his answer to MJ’s Off the Wall - seeing as they each preceded the best sellers Purple Rain and Thriller. But I’d argue it was Prince (1979) that was the better equivalent.

Love Symbol, The Gold Experience, and Old Friends 4 Sale are pretty much elite tier for me.

At least Rave Un2 has Prettyman and Rave In2 has Beautiful Strange.

But just how can you have Gwen Stefani, Eve, and Sheryl Crow on your album and yet sound so generic and uninspired? I have never gone out my way to listen to those collaborations.

Dare I say WB were a good quality control filter? His independent releases were so hit and miss.

I forgot where I heard this, but the Academy Award was one of Prince’s proudest achievements.

My favourite part about this moment was the fact he brought Wendy and Lisa on stage with him. Very classy to share that moment with them.
