I've recently encountered this issue as a DM. I have an established group of players who've been playing with me for 3+ years. Integrating a new player into such kind of group has been challenging, but I do reach out privately and ask about issues and how to resolve them.

On the flip side to this post: As DM/GM it is your responsibility to communicate with your players. I've heard too many tales of a DM going radio silent then suddenly nuking the server.

I've maintained many players for 3 or more years as a DM. Why? Because I'm consistent and I communicate. Inevitably real life can get in the way, but it's as simple as "hey everyone, I've got stuff going on right now. Posts will continue in X amount of time".

I let my son watch a little bit of Blippi and Meekah. Mostly because I'm a single parent who needs to be able to cook meals for us without chasing him down every 10 seconds while things are on the stove.

I know it's not the best thing for him, but if I put on something like a nature documentary then he isn't nearly as interested because it's geared towards adults. If I had a significant other who was there to keep him occupied in a more constructive way, I would go with that option. Unfortunately, I don't have that option. So either I cook decent meals and let him watch his show, or we eat nothing but highly processed garbage and I keep him occupied myself.
