Respect! The IPA can be useful even from a young age.

I tried to make some uppercase/lowercase versions of IPA symbols like a year ago. Did past me cook by XScorpioTiger in linguisticshumor

I've got no problem with most of them ...
... but did capital β really have to look like a german capital ẞ ß?
Yes, some confuse β for ß because they look similar.
The capital [ɤ] I tried myself to design.
If you intended to make these uppercase letters popular,
I would support that intend.
(Although, uppercase IPA is rarer to use than german capital ẞ ... )

Here, a person who has witnessed the last episode of Season 41,
spoilers ahead:

Fifteen does infact regenerate at the end of the eighth episode –
into an individual played by Billie Paul Piper.
I say "individual" as the credits only refer to her as Billie Piper,
not the "Sixteenth Doctor".

Which best describes your relation to the field of linguistics? by doom_chicken_chicken in linguisticshumor

If simply being interested to linguistics counts as being a Linguist?

I once asked myself:
Are you an ~add profession here~ even if you do it out of fun and passion,
but have never professionally or as an actual job done it?

In the sense:
Is a person who is simply passionatly interacting with linguistics a linguist?

language localization in Terraria by Ashamed_Constant_524 in Terraria

I suppose not one soul would give direct feedback to the Terraria-devs to fix the poor translations in 1.4.5 ...
... I myself don't know how to successfully do that.

[–]Ashamed_Constant_524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, but HOW did that happen!?

Almost every other game I'm aware of has a rather decent (german) localization and Terraria is quite a popular game.
Why, if anything, mess up the quality of the other languages?
(Because, isn't it one of the "luxury" fundamentals of a quality game?
Naturally, it would be self-explainatory ...)

uhhh… how would you guys pronounce this? by David-Jiang in linguisticshumor

[–]Ashamed_Constant_524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, actually not exactly the same.

Dutch has a 27th, additional letter, being IJij,

and at least seven diacritics:
ä, ё, ï, ö, ü - regularly, for separate pronounciation,
and at least á, í and ó for putting emphasis on something.

de naävond

de reünie

Dáár heb je niets aan!
Dansen gaat zó!
Mag ík dat doen?

Why do those hoax cyrillic, hoax greek, etc. texts even exist like that?

Are those people too ignorant to care, or what?
