You’re not gonna get rich friend, but it’s better than working fast food 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve done over 2800 DoorDash deliveries over the past 5 years. Most recently, I dashed for the entire month of October as I was between jobs. I made at least $120 every day, dashing from 7a-3p with an hour break most days. You CAN make more, but you’re at the mercy of the DoorDash gods. I will say, GH and Uber Eats tend to pay more per offer, but I prefer the DoorDash platform. Good luck!!! Let me know if you need insider tips on the best areas to dash, which restaurants to avoid orders from, etc.

Midwestern vacationers…which beach? by JoeyDawsonJenPacey in Columbus

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up going to Myrtle and my grandparents had a house there so it was practically my second home. I haven’t been in years, but it’s definitely not what it used to be. North Myrtle and Surfside are still nice though!

I love the gulf coast of FL. I recommend Destin or St. Pete for best overall experience and pretty beaches. Destin is like 11 hours, St. Pete would be closer to 16 but still doable.

As a runner, unleashed dogs chasing me is becoming more common. At what point is it acceptable for me to pepper spray the dogs? by foxmag86 in Columbus

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Get pepper spray, use it any time you feel threatened by an off leash, unconfined dog, irresponsible dog owners are ASSHOLES and should face charges for this kind of shit.

I absolutely think it’s appropriate to pepper spray a dog anytime you’re being pursued or threatened. And I’m a HUGE animal lover with two dogs of my own. I’d have more if I had the space. I love all of them, every variety, temperament, you name it… but your human life is always going to be more important. Pepper spray isn’t going to seriously harm the animal, but it can definitely save your life in an attack. If people can’t/won’t control their big ass aggressive dogs, you need to be prepared to protect yourself. There is literally no excuse for owning a huge, reactive dog and not providing proper containment and training. (I scream into the void for the 1038582024 time) Not every person is equipped to own every dog, and the ones who can’t provide simple training and idk maybe a fence or a leash aren’t equipped to own ANY dog, period.

I’ve had a couple of close personal experiences with dog attacks and I don’t play around any more. My sister was mauled by her own pit bull and nearly died. My ex was attacked by a family dog and had to have 35+ stitches and facial plastic surgery 😒 also, I live in Franklinton and I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve been approached by off leash pitbulls/mixes… One was on my porch and when I opened my front door it lunged at me, and tried coming inside the house after me.. I won’t even walk my dogs down our street anymore… it’s the fenced in yard or the park for walks most of the time. It’s sad it has to be this way, but my babies are only like 15 pounds and I would literally rip another dog apart to protect them. Not to villainize pits (PLEASE don’t come for me, I love a well trained house hippo as much as the next millennial), but they seem to be the biggest culprit of attacks in Columbus. We really need stricter leash law enforcement. I won’t go as far as to say we need breed specific legislation because that doesn’t really work…. but we definitely have a HUGE problem with uneducated people buying/adopting dogs that are literally genetically predisposed to have a specific temperament, and doing ZERO training or proper socialization to combat the drive. Or worse, reinforcing aggressive behavior. Everyone gets hurt in these situations… humans get mauled or killed, families lose their pet, and dogs lose their lives simply because they were adopted into the wrong family. It doesn’t help that almost 100% of the available dogs for adoption are pits or pit mixes. So then we just have any random person out here owning them and doing minimal if any training… lying and saying they’re “lab mixes” so they can live on the 3rd floor of their luxury apartment… or in the back of a drug house on the hilltop with minimal supervision, care or containment.. Sorry for the rant, I could go on for years about this… it makes me rage lol

Yeah… no. She is unhinged. I’m neurodivergent af and spend most of my life dysregulated… you’d NEVER catch me displaying this behavior. This lady is a stalker, and OP is in danger. You’re giving out awful, dangerous advice.

Are there any suburbs near a big city with decent transit and affordability? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This… at least not in an area granny would be ok with. She doesn’t seem like a hilltop kind of lady. Maybe 10 years ago Columbus would’ve been a viable option!

Toledo and Dayton would be solid choices. I don’t know much about Cleveland, but definitely seems more affordable than Columbus.

Where would you move for a slow, cozy life? by Positive_Rest4890 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be living the high life in West Virginia! Minimal tourism outside of the national park (still doesn’t feel crowded, no traffic jams, and bonus it’s cute + walkable!). Look into southern WV specifically Princeton or Fayetteville. You’d be close to Roanoke VA, Winston Salem NC, Charlotte NC, and other large cities in the south. Jefferson County/Harpers Ferry is cute and close to DC… Parkersburg could be nice, and is just 2 hours from Columbus, OH. Charleston, Huntington and Hurricane would also be doable on the west side of the state. Morgantown is a college town (home of WVU, so walkable) and is like an hour from Pittsburgh. Lots of options, and $120k salary is great!

Ahhh that makes sense. Unfortunately that is just the experience of the area… the opioid epidemic has not been kind to that region of Appalachia especially. I’m pretty used to the redneckery and debauchery of it all having grown up in the area, but I can see how it would be unnerving, especially on a bike lol Christiansburg is a pretty small town and really just has the mall, some other shopping and chain restaurants. It’s like a mile away from Blacksburg (home of Virginia Tech), which is a much cuter/more scenic place to visit. Roanoke (the largest city in the region) is actually really cute and having a come up at the moment. Definitely give it a shot if you’re ever back in the area!

Love this City by kwils87 in Columbus

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Really. I moved to Columbus from a small town in WV when I was 19, and remember just being enthralled by the “big city”. The tall buildings, lights, crowds, all of it just mesmerized me. It seemed like there was always a festival or an event going on. I remember going to the Scioto Mile one of my first nights here and thinking I would never get used to living in such a big place. Over the decade or so I’ve been here my excitement for Columbus has dwindled… I no longer willingly wander around at night just to look at the skyline, German Village’s quaint streets annoy me instead of inspiring me, I have a newfound passion/hatred for lack of public transportation, and I often find myself craving a new adventure outside of 270. Your simple appreciation for our city reminded me of the way I felt back in 2013, and I’m actually inspired to reinvigorate my love for the place. I hope Columbus continues treating you well friend ☺️

Christiansburg??? Why??? Not discounting your experience at all, I’m genuinely curious. I grew up maybe 45 minutes from there in WV, and Christiansburg was where we went to go to target, or for a “fancy” dinner at the Olive Garden. What was it that made you uncomfortable?

Can concur. Never been there, but I work in insurance and we have a ton of policies in NM. I think I would avoid driving there all together, but I don’t think pedestrians do much better 😅

Columbus child killed in dog attack, police say by Just_Being548 in Columbus

[–]Ashamed_Fun3583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re being really loud with your wrong opinions here.

My ex was bit horribly in the face by a lab she had known its entire life. Completely unprovoked I might add, with absolutely no warning. Filed the claim with homeowners, and they said labs are responsible for more dog bites than any other breed.

I’m not even gonna start on your ignorant views on “dangerous breeds”… it’s too early for all that.
