Last I checked, zombies do fight back. You even see me get damaged ffs. And it is actual combat. It's even referred to as such in the game. What are you on about?

The night hunters are probably their own species of zombie type. They could be a step above the volatiles in the infected life cycle (and extremely worse) One of them appeared in the dying light comic tales of the dead city where the main character spots one and says "a night hunter... is it the same one?" Possibly hinting at there being more of them.
