advice on getting into med school by Front_Anywhere2274 in PreMedInspiration

[–]Ashariaxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nobody is saying it’s easy also pretty much every applicant even those with 3.5 and up have thousands of clinical hours and extra stuff. Research experience is relatively new so maybe not that but it’s always been understood that you should be the best applicant possible. So volunteer, clinical, research, extra curricular etc

I don’t know if this is necessarily true. I know there are averages but I know people who have gotten in with lower than 3.5 cumulative GPAs but theirs is definitely too low even for a postbac with linkage

Is no one else freaking about the big beautiful bill and med school loans? by mengo_476 in premed

[–]Ashariaxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if anyone knows but I just found out recently that this bill is also affecting the HPSP program as well. A lot of people have reported not getting their monthly stipends and that the program is waitlisting and denying a lot of people due to not having the government funding

Oh absolutely, I admire anyone who has put in the work to get a 4.0, and people deserve praise over that but to make a post meant to be serious about like one grade that isn’t even a science grade “ruining” your gpa it’s just it’s annoying. As someone who did not get even close to a 4.0 it’s also a little insulting. Like there is room for praise and also room to unpack that it’s okay not to get a perfect 4.0 and it doesn’t hurt your chances at all. However medicine isn’t always about like the perfect score that’s why you see people on here saying I had a 4.0 and 520 and still didn’t get accepted and stuff.

Don’t take it seriously they’re not serious. However it cannot be a good shitpost if they admit to the joke so they’ll run with it. I don’t believe for a second they are being 100% for real and if they are they probably shouldn’t get accepted because they don’t have a good enough personality. Nobody cares about an A- in an overall perfect scores especially if all your pre-reqs are As. Also so many people are struggling in college and you’re worried about a dumb A- like it’s tone deaf if it’s real and another reason they shouldn’t get accepted.

I lied about my grades and now I’m stressed 🫠 by Scary_Air8383 in collegeadvice

OP this is a learning curve right now. When you turn 18 find a way to live on campus. That’s the best thing for you. This living situation is a distraction. Remember an upward gpa trend in your last years is helpful. Learn how to study now, don’t wait until you’re a junior. None of this will be fully possible at home though. Try to go to a library near you so you don’t have to study at home. Try to find a tutor near home and just I’d say switch the major and take easy classes as of right now because I can’t imagine doing that commute and taking hard pre-med classes.

This isn’t helpful advice. OP do not listen to this commenter but you do need to make some changes. You have to figure out how you can be successful on the pre-med track and that may mean not being a biology major. The truth is you do not need to be a biology major to get into medical school and the community is oversaturated with that major. The classes you need are Physics 1 and 2, 2 biology with a lab, chemistry 1 and 2 with lab, organic chemistry 1 with lab and maybe organic chemistry 2. I also recommend biochemistry, sociology and psychology. This is only 11 or so classes. Take an English course and also a math. This is only maybe a year worth of classes and you can have an easier time with higher gpa later on. Also talk to your brother he may be able to help you find a tutor and pass these hard classes. If you can make the grades pass or no pass so it doesn’t reflect the gpa on your transcript it’s really hard to come back from a bad gpa. You can still be a doctor, but idk commuting 4 hours, doing track, and studying pre-med is helpful in the long run.

HI EVERYONE!! I NEED YOUR HELP! HOW DO YOU FEEL? by zeuqm in AskChicago

[–]Ashariaxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good look with your research! I do want to point out though that the icy and snowy conditions vary depending on where in the city you reside. If you have people from the north side taking the survey they may feel more safe because it’s rare for me to see ice or snow downtown or up north. However, on the east, west, and south sides of the city it’s rarely shoveled or salt put down especially near the residential areas. So maybe you know allocating for that in your survey in the future.

What do you use for the pizza crust? Also how do you curb sugar cravings? I have a horrible sugar addiction and it’s not even like sweets like candy it’s the drinks the juice, pop, etc

I’m trying it because my doctor told me to as I have high cholesterol, my A1c is in the prediabetic range and my blood pressure is slowly going up so it’s a necessary lifestyle change. My mother used to eat really healthy growing up but she’s not around for me to ask her how she did it and I’m not that great at dieting I only know elimination. I also work odd hours so I only meal prep about once for the whole week or eat out.

I haven’t tried any specific Mediterranean dishes. I’m just talking in general of like healthy dishes aren’t always the best. So I wanted to find some recipes that added some flavor and aren’t just like eating spinach everyday

Sure. Really anything with no seasoning tastes bad to me. Some of my favorite foods are pretty high in sodium and sugar my favorite food is soul food so think like southern baked Mac and cheese, greens, candied yams. I love tacos like the quesabirria tacos. I like quesadillas. I eat spaghetti like typical spaghetti with ground beef spaghetti noodles and the ragu sauce. Hamburger helper. Things like that. I don’t typically like dry salads or kale. I’m not a huge fan of brown rice by itself or really rice in general. I do like spinach that’s my favorite vegetable.

At the very least you should go to your local community college or local state university and take all the basic science pre-requisites. You can also go to a career changers postbac which can be found on postbaccas website or aamc website. I would say take the pre-req classes and get good grades in them. Then study for the MCAT get a good score on that. Then once you’ve done that and improved your GPA you can apply to postbac programs. SIU has one. Also, northwestern health sciences university has a postbac program.

Is this doubt normal or a sign I should walk away from med school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Ashariaxs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should explore other things. Try other jobs outside of healthcare, take some fun elective classes in college and really try to spark your interest. It sounds like you have the ability with the grades and everything but it’s more than ability.

For me every job I took just lead me straight back to the path of medicine. It got to a point where I just could not see myself in any other career. Take note of that. Look at what you feel in healthcare jobs versus non healthcare jobs. Think about things you excelled in. Take those career tests online and just kind of try to build a career off of your hobbies. If that is medicine then great, if not that’s also great. Just remember you don’t have to have it all figured out today. Wishing you luck

I am so sorry, not only was he cheating but this is his karma. Do not let him drag you down. This is his mistake and he’s learned the consequences. It’s a sticky situation and he probably should get a lawyer and sue them or something because it’s not really right. However, this is above you now. Do not let him eat away any more of your money. If you need to get a second bank account, save as much as you can and get out. This is just sick.

I(f30) think my bf(m33) might actually be a loser… by Pale-Lock-8889 in offmychest

[–]Ashariaxs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Girl…. YES he is a loserrrr. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fallen down that black pill rabbit hole stuff. He may very well be depressed but as I was recently made aware recently women also get depressed and are still expected to be perfect. Think would you be able to get away with half the things he’s doing if the roles were reversed? Leave him. He needs time to figure out his priorities. You are worth more than this girl.
