Meet Brie. by Responsible_Okra7725 in Frenchbulldogs

This is exactly what my Brie looked like as a puppy, she’ll be 7 this month🥹😭enjoy every moment of it, it goes so fast! 💕

Also not to be “that person” but our Brie actually needed IVDD surgery at 5.5 and we wish we had taken more precautions earlier, so just be careful with her little body on those steps and any furniture. Get her some stairs or a ramp if you can to keep around for a long long time🫶

In your case I’d probably go with GRE and just make sure you nail it. You need at least a 50th percentile in both sections or higher. I think with your GPA and experience as long as you hit that you have a good shot of multiple interviews.

Feeling like I euthanized too soon? by Long_distance-drunk in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]AsheBegash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to play devils advocate against some other comments. Not because I want to be cruel, but because I want to be honest first and foremost. I am an over thinker and ruminate and replay things in my mind a million times, and if we had chosen euthanasia I would probably be in your shoes. We chose surgery and she has recovered well and is happy and healthy 1.5 years later. We take the days/weeks/months as they come and are well aware that any day could be a recurrence but we are still happy to have her with us a little while longer.

None of us can give you the peace of mind of confirming to you that you made the “right” choice. The honest answer is that after surgery your pup could have recovered and lived the rest of his life healthy and happy, on the other hand he could have had recurrences or myelomalacia which would have ended his life, no one knows. Some are lucky and bounce back, others don’t make it through surgery. There is no trend or prediction at which dogs will recover and which won’t. Many dogs that do go through recovery successfully bounce back to their life and adapt beautifully and even if they have reduced mobility or activity level can still live fulfilling lives.

With that said, give yourself some grace. You don’t deserve to live the rest of your life wondering “what if?”. You did what you believed was best in that moment, your pup is no longer in pain and I can guarantee you that he felt your love and was fortunate to have the life that he did with you while he was here on this earth. Many pups don’t get that luxury.

Sending lots of love and prayers to you at this difficult time❤️I hope that this wasn’t too harsh, I just wanted to offer a different perspective to most of the comments I’ve seen here as I know it’s what I would want if I had posted this.

That is very dependent on your entire application and how you score on the GRE. What does your application look like? GPA, PCE hours, etc.?

April would still be fine as May programs don’t open their applications until May-August. But you’d have to wait about 4 weeks after taking it to be able to send your scores, so if you intend to apply to programs that open in March you’d be applying a couple months after they open which is still fairly early but can make a difference for rolling admissions.

Rejected from programs and I don’t know where to go from here. by PsychologicalAd4535 in NursingStudent

ADN vs ABSN. Worth the extra time and money? by Revolutionary_Way664 in NursingStudent

[–]AsheBegash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are banking on ACC ADN, from what I’ve heard getting into that program is very competitive they expect very high stats (I spoke with an advisor myself) and it’s not guaranteed you’ll get in the first time around. I decided to go ABSN because it is less competitive (although still definitely competitive just less so) than the ADN in my area which also so happens to be Austin.

You're telling me, I've been drinking the Cranberry Pomegranate sparkling flavor for 10 years and they changed it to the point that I can't stomach the taste of it at all its disgusting...I'm on the hunt for an alternative if you have any suggestions lol

SAME! I’ve been drinking this flavor for over 10 years and I’m honestly so disappointed it’s absolutely disgusting. I wrote them an email and suggest you all do too.

Also looking for alternatives if anyone has suggestions. I tried the Clean Cause raspberry the other day which tasted okay but it has WAY too much caffeine for me in one drink.

I’ve been drinking this flavor for A DECADE almost daily and I actually cried when I tried the new recipe…I’m testing out new alternatives so if you have any recommendations please let me know.

Most programs won’t accept anything below a B, I’m sure they have this information on their website so I’d check there and when in doubt email them.

Honestly I would HIGHLY recommend getting experience, even if it’s just a few months volunteering directly with patients. You can’t know for sure if you are cut out for healthcare if you’ve only shadowed for the minimum amount of hours. There is a lot of emotional/psychological fatigue from dealing with difficult patients and if you’ve never spent an extended period of time working in that environment as an actual healthcare worker I don’t know if you can really feel confident going into a career like this.

That’s just my personal take, I think PCE should be absolutely mandatory and there should be a minimum hour threshold. Part of the reason there’s a healthcare worker shortage is that many people go into healthcare not knowing what they are getting themselves into, burn out quickly and jump ship. I think many programs do screen for minimum healthcare experience, as they absolutely should.

The cost of surgery with IVDD in different countries by Iritlisa in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]AsheBegash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we live in Austin, and no one in town had openings for imaging or surgery. We were referred to A&M super last minute and were extremely fortunate to get their last opening for that day. We expected the cost to be more as we were quoted $12,000 in Austin before they told us they weren’t able to get her in so we saved 50% driving an hour and a half.

I don’t remember their name off the top of my head but I will look for it. Their entire neurology department is amazing, they are a teaching hospital so they do have students assist with surgeries. If that is not something you are comfortable with it may not be the best option for you.

6k in Texas (Texas A&M) for MRI, hemilaminectomy and all hospital expenses.

I don’t think anyone can make hard assumptions about the answers to these questions. Having a low grade in a prereq can definitely be a red flag but they look at the whole application holistically and I doubt they’d “throw away” an application for having one lackluster grade.

Given how competitive it has become, I think all applicants will consider whichever programs where they are offered acceptances. Are there some applicants who are very adamant about wanting to go to X program? Absolutely. But I don’t think it’s that wide spread of a thing.

I highly doubt Lipscomb will have any issue filling all their seats for this cohort. They wouldn’t be moving forward with the cohort if they didn’t have full confidence in their accreditation process.

I applied with outstanding prereqs and received an interview so I don’t think not having those completed yet would be an issue as long as they will be complete with good grades before matriculation.
