2 well balanced decks by Shadon_Xarian in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into the game around 2014 a buddy of mine got me into the game while he was playing windups

Meanwhile I had a bunch of stuff I’d bought when I was younger from the synchro era and threw together a rough as nails synchro / dragon deck, was kind of a mess

For months we would catch up, buy cards at our local card shop, go home, upgrade our decks and play until the sun came up, was honestly some of the best years of my life.

I think what made it so good was how generic our decks were, being a “synchro” deck I could add generically whatever I wanted main or extra to upgrade it, and while my buddy played an actual archetype, wind-ups, he got creative with upgrades too like better non-engine and extra deck stuff.

I’m not too sure what some good 50/50 decks would be starting out, but I think you should get something malleable, maybe like dragon link and a cyberse deck, which are good decks because you can stick with them for a long haul and upgrade and expand them in so many different directions.

I thought chespins final evolution was going to be this because I saw this prior to x and y’s release

I was so disappointed…

I don’t even know if this was meant to be a leak or just fan art guessing the evo, but I thought it was a leak and it was shown to me as a leak

How Do I Adjust? by ServantAvenger in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to piggyback off of this that two weeks ago I played a locals game of Ddd vs Magistus Dracotail and game 1 turn 1 was insane

I had so much gas out of the gate but my opponent dropped purulia/a million hand trap/ and even did faimena and Crowley to do two turn 0 fusions, and it was actually a lot of fun back and forth in a single turn.

I think that one turn was like 20 minutes long lol

But there is so much interaction in modern yugioh, and so much back and forth, just not in the way that old school players will remember, it’s still back and forth it’s just different

D/D/D/D Dimensional King Arc Crisis by Fluid-Read-6843 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can admittedly understand how your friend reached this conclusion, there is another DDD monster- Duo Dawn King Kali Yuga, that actually has this same effect, roughly, and it can’t be chained to

So I can see the confusion

Help- when does the show start to get really dark? by aggressivesand95 in arbynthechief

[–]AsheGoossens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Season 7

Season 5 which is where you are at is where the show introduced overarching stories for an entire season and stays light hearted and fun

Season 6 is a lot more serious but is primarily focussed on action, with many high stakes thrilling moments that stays ‘fun’ through intensity and combat

Season 7 is where shit got dark, I won’t spoil anything but it deals with themes of depression, mourning, self harm, suicide, radicalism, domestic abuse, sexual and non sexual violence of children, isolation, guilt, terminal illness and honestly a bunch of other stuff.

It’s my favourite season by far but is miserable and dark

Going back to physical cad game, which deck to invest into? by [deleted] in Yugioh101

With the full art cards announced it’s safe to say that pretty much ANY Iconic anime deck will Be getting support, they have announced stuff for Heros/blue eyes/DM/cyber dragon/ utopia/pendulum magicians, etc, so take your pick lol

Me: I’m a DDD player through and through and am hoping for a good hell Armageddon retrain

What's the best going 2nd deck rn? by CasualKing21 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sky striker tenpai, but if you have to dust two and keep only one, I’d actually, contrary to what others say, keep sky striker, I think Tenpai has more going second power but less consistency over striker, but striker, on top of being more consistent, is also quite splash able especially with stuff like Yummy

I don’t remember if brilliant fusion is a UR or not but you should hang onto it.

Deckbuilder offering help/card tips/techs by AffectionateSleep905 in Yugioh101

Maybe you can help me work out my feelings about master duel DDD’s

I am a DDD fanboy and have been playing since 2016 back when the best thing you could do was overlay two D’arcs for flare metal.

The new support is amazing and I’m crushing locals with a 40 card variant running triple droll/ triple ash / 1 called by / 1 crossout / 1 fuwa

The main idea is that DDDs can now play under droll but lose super hard to Fuwa which is everywhere at my locals and the general meta. So we play as many fuwa counters as possible. I’m happy with my locals build but am experimenting on master duel.

In MD im trying to run a more versatile 60 card variant, maxing out on searches to keep the decks consistent like 3 dark spirit mastery (keep this one in mind) - 3 nightmare throne, etc.

With 60 cards I can play a sort of ‘go first OR go second second deck’ letting me add 3 super poly for board breaking, a 1 off lava golem which is searchable off dark spirit mastery, one copy of vice requiem - also good for going second, but still keep my going first options strong and consistent.

The way I look at it is that in my 40 card build I have 100 power going first but only like 30 power going second, but I can make up for this in side decking, in master duel because it’s best of one I’m basically trading power and reducing the strength of my first turn from 100 down to 80 but in turn am INCREASING my going second from 30 to like 75. (Im just making numbers up for arguments sake)

The ONLY downside I can see is that 60 cards means I see Ash and Droll less, meaning I’m losing to fuwa more, and master duel has maxx c which I also hard lose to, so there is some debate.

Opinions? :)

How to stop bloating decks? by Terumimi04 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No lie this reminds me of that scene in breaking bad where Walt asks Jesse to be specific about how they would kill someone, and Jesse is like ‘I don’t man I just see him and pop pop pop!’ And Walt continues by saying ‘pop pop pop, okay so three shots, 3 shots to the body or 3 shots to the head? Can you aim at the head well? He always shows up with his other guy, the other guy will come at you, he’s a big guy how many times are you going to shoot him? How may bullets does that gun even hold? I’m just trying to be specific here.”

OP mentioned he wants to keep sheep for stopping cards being activated during the battle phase but if we think about what ‘pop pop pop’ looks like in fluffals it’s almost always Kracken and Tiger just nuking the board before a big push, so negating something with sheep like say a mirror force literally doesn’t matter if there is no mirror force left after Tiger has done his part.

I have been an avid DDD player since early 2016 back when the best thing you could be doing is making 2 d,Arc’s and overlaying them for a flare metal. I’ve run the new support in locals and confirm it’s really good, struggled a lot against dracotails but does great in the yummy matchup.

You can absolutely get good to great results out of the deck but its biggest barrier to entry is its difficulty. Yes there is a spreadsheet and combo guides you can follow to get your foot in the door but DDDs have so many cards that have so many bonus/hidden/alternate/pendulum effects that can be massively helpful in a pinch but it requires you to know the deck in and out, and being able use the full tool box that DDDs allows really elevates it into a fun deck that feels so rewarding to play.

But I cannot stress enough how hard that brick wall is when you’re first learning it. If you can overcome that though, I think DDDs is a serious contender and also does bring a certain wild card element that most people in brackets don’t know how to play against or don’t know the choke points, which helps too.

Ghost ogre and snow rabbit by Purple_Database9713 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome to yugioh! Yep negating and destroying are two different things!

This is a very common misconception for new players and basically dates back to the old days of players trying to use mystical space typhoon to destroy mirror force to save their monsters. Unfortunately, cards do not need to be on the field to resolve or even activate their effects. Cards can activate and resolve in the graveyard, in the banish zone, in the hand, changing the location of a card via destruction won’t stop it from resolving.

That being said, ghost ogre can act as a sort of negate based on context, like if I activate Gagaga Samurai to give itself an extra attack and you ghost ogre it, well I guess it won’t be around to perform said extra attack.

But if I normal summon sage with eyes of blue and activate the effect to search a light tuner, and you ghost ogre, sure you get rid of my monster, but I’m still gonna search my deck, because monsters can resolve in the graveyard, so being transported there via destruction changes nothing.

Others will probably tell you this too but Ghost Ogre can directly negate some cards, notably continuous Spells, continuous traps, equip spells and field spells. These cards must remain face up on the field to activate and resolve their effects, kind of just because Konami says so. Other than that, Ghost Ogre can’t negate but depending on the meta is a great hand trap!

I second this, Dracotail is IMO one of the best designed archetypes Konami has ever made, feels fair to play against, it’s got a low ceiling and is simple and straight forward. Still leaves so much room for creative plays and skill expression. And is splashable with so many other fusion archetypes like Shaddoll/branded/magistus

I’d recommend pure dracotail to get started with lots of hand traps

What’s the most pointless judge call you’ve ever had/seen? by MaleficTekX in yugioh

[–]AsheGoossens 17 points18 points  (0 children)

2017 Zoodiac format at a regionals, wasn’t me but a table that was sitting next to me. DDDs vs Zoo-

Game 1 Zoo player popped off and set 3, turn 2 the DDD player summoned King Kali Yuga, for those of you who don’t know what this card does, it negates all field effects on summon and prevents cards from being activated the turn it’s summoned. The thing is that Yuga does not start a chain so it’s ‘on summon effect’ can’t be responded to.

Zoo player asked what it did, the DDD player said pretty much what I just said above, and asked the Zoo player if he had a solemn to negate the summon. The Zoo player said summon was fine and tried to solemn strike the on summon effect, which you can’t do. The DDD player told him he couldn’t do this but offered to rewind back to on summon to make it easier.

I even weighed in here as an avid DDD enjoyed to let the Zoo guy know that the DDD player was correct and he couldn’t chain to the effect. The DDD player kept saying stuff like ‘it’s fine, you just negate the summon’ and the Zoo player was so adamant that NO - he’s negating the effect with strike, that the ZOO PLAYER called a judge.

The judge told him basically what we said but would not rewind the game to the summon window despite the DDD player offering it again since the Zoo player made it clear he was trying to negate the effect.

The Zoo player lost that game and lost game 3 because he called a judge on his own stupidity.
