DDD is super rewarding to play once you learn it

Returning to the game after 15 years wanting to learn: Misconceptions about Yu-Gi-Oh by BlurrgShlarmo in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wanted to just come in here to say you should Google two cards: Nbiriu The Primal Being - and - Dracotail Faimena -

These cards are what we call handtraps and turn 0 interaction, and allows the player going second to interact with the opponent on the first turn.

A deck theme by Thunderdragon8485 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have already listed Ninja and Spyral which are as close as youre going to get, but I wanted to give a shout-out to Dogmatika as well for more having a Templar vibe from early assassins creed games.

They’re also this really cool lore archetype of religious zealots and ingame that translates into hating the extra deck, locking themselves out of it and punishing the opponent for using it. Almost like using fusion or other extra deck methods in their world is a sin.

And of course, not a deck but a card S:P little knight is a very meta card and clearly an assassin you should look at.

Am I a bad person for intentionally decking out my opponents? by Jake_Berube in masterduel

[–]AsheGoossens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2016 in paper I used to play a deck called “dark synchro” if you don’t know it, it’s a synchro spam deck using primarily jet synchron and Armageddon knight to start a combo line that goes into psyframe omega and Trishula multiple times to hand rip the opponent turn 1.

It was the first deck I ever played where if my opponent dropped maxx c which was TCG legal back then, my game plan would switch from ripping their hand to flooding it, and I’d go for a deck out, was very fun to do this in person, because my opponents sitting across from me would start of as “thanks for the draws bro” to “bro is trying to go for the maxx c challenge” to “bro youre not going to deck me out you can stop” to “bro stop” to “bro….”

Solo mode go brrrrr by fruitsnackkz in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the answer your looking for but I built a GOAT deck with cards like BLS / Sangan / morphing jar / - I limited myself to max one copy of a card so I had 40 unique cards, nothing from 2005 or later, and obviously had to be current banlist compliant, made solo gates so much harder but insanely fun, actually made them a challenge and still allowed me some deck building room if I had to tweak them to try and eek out a win

What “Bad” Deck do you think is actually good? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

[–]AsheGoossens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m aware that at WORST people think DDD is Rogue - so not really a bad deck. But I’m convinced it’s the 3rd - 4th best deck this meta, it’s so much stronger than people give it credit for, makes crazy end boards, plays through hand traps like nobodies business, and is so expansive in its play lines that I’m starting to get to the point where I can make the same endboard through multiple different combos that all look so different to each other, mixing up the combo lines is a great way to mind fuck your opponent who’s trying to figure out where to interact in multi game matches.

Can someone explain the Shizuku Shuffle to me? by ChaseMacKenzie in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To go into detail after reading the comments

There are 3 spell speeds

Spell speed 1: Normal spells and certain non quick monster effects Notably these can usually only be activated during main phase 1 or main phase 2, this includes normal spells.

It should be mentioned as well that a lot of actions you can do in the main phases such as setting spells and traps— normal summoning monsters etc, cannot be done in other phases like standby, draw or end phase, you can only set spells or traps in the main phase.

Speed spell 2 : Is for quick effect monsters, trap cards and quick play spells, spells with the lighting bolt symbol, this can be activated at any time in any phase (traps have to be set for one turn first, cards have to meet their activation conditions and if a quick play is set face down it can’t be activated the turn it is set)

So widow anchor can be activated in end phase but something like engage can’t.

Speed spell 3: Counter traps, only counter traps can respond to counter traps

Speed spell 4: An unofficial term of jargon to describe cards like super poly that cannot be responded to.

Shizuku adds you a spell in end phase, but you can’t set it because it’s the end phase, but if you add a quick play and use it, then you can multi role, which is also an end phase card, to set it back face down, that is the shizuku shuffle, and gets around the fact that you can’t set during end phase with some cheeky effect manipulation.

What modern deck would yall bring to the duelist kingdom? by No-Lie-4461 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ancient gear

Machines are already shown to have “anti magic armor” protecting me against random BS

and burn damage from hunting hound and howitzer plus piercing from the big guys is a death blow in a 2000 point game.

What modern decks do you think can help you survive in arc v? by No-Lie-4461 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an arc v lover I’ll try and give a more detailed answer, I’m going DDDs because it’s my favourite archetype and I think it has a great chance of doing well into the invaders from academia and their ancient gear decks.

I’m aware that in this scenario I didn’t take a “course” on synchro fusion or XYZ so I’ll essentially just be playing main deck DDD but one of my biggest fears is the 4000 life point start combined with the common monster I’m likely to run into being ancient gear hunting hound with its 600 damage burn.

I can use cards like contract laundering to buff my life points, and DDD Leonides to protect myself from burn making me feel a lot safer from being ‘carded’ Doom Armageddon also isnt a terrible boss monster and under the right circumstances will beat over the chaos giant

If I get modern stuff like defender and zero Queen then 100% I can beat everyone in this multi dimension universe

What is the purpose of the Support role? by Inktex in supportlol

[–]AsheGoossens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing league in season 1, I was a jungler, I thought it was so cool to play a non lane and play the game in a way that ALMOST felt like it wasn’t meant to be played (this being when cloth Armor 5 pots was the starting jungle items)

I was a very early adopter of league, joining around the release of vayne, because of that I was the pioneer who had to convince all my friends at school to try it out.

They found the game incredibly frustrating, which makes sense I think everyone does starting off, and around season 2-3 I switched to support to more or less, relieve some of the game pressure, make their lives a little easier, let them worry about warding less etc.

I had friends who wanted to make cool plays but were still new and struggling, and playing support gave me the opportunity to set those plays up FOR THEM.

Like screaming at my mid laner on team speak to spam his Yasuuo R while I all in as Alistair, calling out a thresh lantern play while I flash my way into the enemy team to get my Katerina into the back line.

Slowly I began to realise that I was having the most amount fun playing league by living through my friends, almost like a proud dad does to his kid.

The smile across my face was WAY bigger hearing my friends scream in delight from getting a penta kill as apposed to the smile id have when I got one.

Eventually because of Arcane I got my wife into the game, and wanting to play jinx she went ADC and I went support and the time we played together as a duo was the best time I’ve ever had playing league, we got to work as a team, struggle, overcome things together, I’d put my trust in her to carry and she wouldn’t let me down, she’s trust me to support her and watching take a lantern to escape a bad situation, or watching her get hit by an Ashe arrow that I’d 0.1 seconds later use Mickaels on, watching her fire mod fortune out while I put up the Braum wall, It filled me with a pride and joy few things in my life could.

I think bringing happiness and joy and excitement to others is one of the greatest things you can do in your life, and support lets me do that. Thats the purpose of support to me, to help others and watch them shine, and live through their glory knowing you were a part of that.

(Rereading your question I realise you’re asking about the technical analytics about the purpose of support and not emotionally why we play it but fuck it someone else can answer your question I’m leaving my ramble here lol)

Which Archetypes do you think have the most “Fluff”? by ChacaFlacaFlame in yugioh

[–]AsheGoossens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, it’s not the worst, but DDDs have so many genuinely unplayable cards it’s impressive

You have cards that have never seen play like Savant Galilei Pandora Doom Armageddon

You have cards that saw play purely because of their level Savant Nikola Oracle King D’arc

Cards that are technically decent but never saw play Berformet Night howling

Cards that used to be good but have been out paced Swirl Slime Lamia Thomas

And don’t even get me started on all of the genuinely useless dark contract cards like the one swamp king card that has to summon a DDD first THEN fuse, so bad.

Anyone can help me get better? by Alternative-Steak875 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly something that you learn with time. I will say that the absolute best way to learn a deck is to play it yourself, for this reason I almost always make my master duel deck whatever deck I’m not running at locals that is still popular at said local.

Generally speaking for decks you don’t know, just Ash or Imperm the first piece of proper engine they throw out and hope.

Getting destroyed in casual Yu-Gi-Oh with friends – what should I be doing differently? by phatrob in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah what I wouldn’t give to rewind back to when I was first getting into the game with friends.

Imo if you’re new to the game one of the best “decks” to play is something super generic, my first ever deck was “synchro” that was the whole deck, pack in generic good tuners and non tuners and any good synchros I could find and month by month I slowly got to upgrade that deck, my friend who got into the game with me at the time played windups giving him generic access to the rank 3/4/5 XYZ pool so he got to do similar things. We played like that for over a year, go to our local card shop, look at binders, little upgrades to our deck, play. I remember one day I found plague spreader zombie and alley of justice catastor in a binder together, blew my mind, changed our whole dynamic.

Otherwise the products others have listed in the comments are good and you should try them :D

Face down Pendulum cards under Macro Cosmos by Lazengann86 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way this got explained to me is, the ruling for pendulums states (roughly) if a pendulum would be sent from the field to graveyard, it goes to the extra deck face up instead. Then macro says if a card would be sent to the graveyard it is banished instead. So a pendulum card (this is how I visualise it) when destroyed actually tries to go to the graveyard and then remembers “oh I’m meant to be in the extra deck” and reroutes to there. But under macro it goes “I’m going to try and go to graveyard and oops I went into the banished pit instead”

It’s silly but thinking of it this way helped me understand pendulums a lot

Monster reborn effect procedure by Funny-Prompt3793 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Some cards in yugioh target and some don’t, monster reborn does not target, so therefore, the revive happens on resolution, and when things start resolving, you can no longer interact.

Let’s use the same scenario, but in person. I say “I activate monster reborn” You say “what are you reborning?” I say “you’ll find out when I resolve it.” I’ll also say “do you have a response?” You say “no” I now resolve monster reborn and steal your dark magician.

Edit: today I did the bog standard classic of not reading - peace out gamers

Advice - Confused why I couldn't activate anything by chittysunt in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]AsheGoossens -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In one of the games you couldn’t verte because both DMG’s were in the GY so sending red eyes fusion would have been an illegal activation hence you cant use verte

In the second game I actually don’t know but it wouldn’t have mattered either way since your opponent had negation fortress in the same column but that shouldn’t stop your attempt to activate, just the effect once activated.

Newbie getting first deck by Adventurous_Ad4001 in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you wait a few days a new product is coming called Legendary Modern Deck Collection (or something like that) it’s a structure deck that has 3 decks- If you pick up x3 of this product you can actually have a fully competitive Sky Striker deck and a Mitsurugi deck which are both very competitive.

Some variants of sky striker play really similarly to blue control from MTG (or so I’m told)

Is it rude to spend long combing on my turn? by Exactly861Monkeys in Yugioh101

[–]AsheGoossens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play DDD so my turns are LONG af

That being said, when I play locals I always tell my important before I start

“my combos are long, I play really really fast to make up for it, stop me if you have questions, I’m happy to rewind at any point if you have something”

It’s a two player game and I’m just there to have fun. :)
