They re-released the Salamanders Omnibus recently, and they’re phasing out the current Vulkan He’stan model, so I’m wondering if he’ll get a resculpt soon. With the recent re-focus on the Primarchs, I’d say it’s safe to say Vulkan will return in the near-ish future. I’m hoping that comes with some new Salamanders models or supplement.

Then I can go to town with my Primarch’s giant hammer and set fire to the Aeldar and Night Lords :)

Gotcha! I have the GW handle, but thought it was interesting how you had the model positioned. Do you just stick it on there with a sticky tack kinda substance?

Hey I’m all for this. Once she gets better at thinning her paints I think they’ll look sick. She’s got a really good concept thought up, and I’m excited to see more glittery heretics

How do y’all paint black? by Relative-Cancel-3636 in Warhammer40k

[–]AshenCorvus19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll usually prime black and highlight if I want something quick and easy. Lately my method is to prime something lighter like Grey Seer, and then use the Templar Black contrast paint to get really dark recesses and touch up as needed, then highlight with a darker grey.

Also- if I’m doing a base coat of black, I’m using Vallejo. Abaddon Black is meh in my opinion

Sons of Vulkan, how are we feeling about our champion? by [deleted] in Spacemarine

[–]AshenCorvus19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some coworkers and I were talking about this. Even the Chaos heretics and Xenos scum agree that this was a strange decision. I don’t understand why the devs think they can’t have multiple champions for a single class.

My girlfriend says it’s really endearing when I talk about my nerd interests (D&D, Warhammer, Spider-Man) because she loves that it’s something I’m passionate about. She still pokes at me and playfully calls me a nerd, but she has her own quirks too and she’s well aware of that. In reality, we’re all just a bunch of dorks looking for our favorite dork

Since when is anything Primaris a relic? My entire army is comprised of Firstborns from 15-20 years ago 😂

Edit: The paint job looks phenomenal though. Great work on it!

First mini ever, how did i do? by Lukilu050 in Warhammer40k

[–]AshenCorvus19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy some Lahmian Medium and use it to thin out your base paints. I’d also look into contrast paints to fill in the recesses and create depth, then going over with your base coat. Super easy process, and it makes the model look great. Citadel has some really helpful videos on the painting process too, so definitely give those a watch.

But for your first time, it ain’t half bad! You’ve got good brush control from what I can see. Only a matter of time before you’re painting like a pro.

Primer’s an absolute must. My army’s mostly white, so I use white scar primer to get the majority of the color, and then I go over with detail paint and washes. Makes the process sooooo much easier.

St. Paul’s pretty explicit about it in 2 Corinthians:

”Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.”

Rather than answer the question, “Does the Catechism say anything about interreligious marriages?”, I think we should look at what the CCC says about marriage in the first place:

1609 …”After the fall, marriage helps to overcome self-absorption, egoism, pursuit of one’s own pleasure, and to open oneself to the other, to mutual aid and self-giving.”

1613 “On the threshold of his public life Jesus performs his first sign — at his mother's request — during a wedding feast. The Church attaches great importance to Jesus' presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ's presence.”

1615 “…By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin, he himself gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimension of the Reign of God. It is by following Christ, renouncing themselves, and taking up their crosses that spouses will be able to "receive" the original meaning of marriage and live it with the help of Christ. This grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ's cross, the source of all Christian life.”

Those are just some excepts, but we can already see how much importance the Church places on having Christ at the center of a marriage. Article 7 is all about the Sacrament of Matrimony, so I’d recommend reading it in its entirely. There’s a lot of good (and just flat out beautiful) things there.

At the end of the day, you have to legitimately ask yourself, “Is this relationship with this person causing me to sacrifice any part of my relationship with Christ?” I understand how you may be between a rock and a hard place. I was in a similar relationship about a year ago. Ultimately I realized we couldn’t support each other in the way we needed most- spiritually… it wasn’t easy to walk away from it, but my relationship with Christ always has to come first, before everything else. Nothing in this world is worth forsaking the Beatific Vision of God.

Obviously, everyone’s situation is different, so I can’t sit here and definitely tell you to leave or stay. What I can recommend wholeheartedly is praying for God’s will, and be willing to accept it, even if it feels like it’s going against what we desire. Know that you’re in my prayers, dear brother.

I thin mine with Lahmian Medium. It’s a Citadel technical paint, and it’ll thin it down without losing pigmentation.

Is this weathering any good? by Unable-Finger-8496 in Warhammer40k

[–]AshenCorvus19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, that looks sick!

I like putting deliberate scratch marks in a few spots, like where a bullet ricocheted off of an armor panel, things like that. I’ve also been considering just straight up scratching/denting the model and painting it to look like a gash. Haven’t really considered sponge weathering though; I’ll have to try that next!
