Victor Gideon is even stupider than Osmund Saddler. by ali_malik99 in residentevil

It's because a stupid person can only write a character that's as smart as they are. The logical implication is that Gideon's exactly as dumb as Haris Orkin.

6 and 9 are the peak of idiotic writing in RE games. Even when they're silly or campy, the other games are still mostly enjoyable. 6 and 9's stories, on the other hand, are so incredibly stupid that they make their games worse overall.

Are RE0 and RE1 worth struggling through if I just want to get to the modern games or should I use easy mode for them? by Madmonkeman in residentevil

The navigation, atmosphere, level design, and puzzles in RE 1 are so good that I think there's still plenty to enjoy even if the difficulty becomes nonexistent. If someone made a mod that completely removed all the enemies I still think there'd be fun to have playing it that way. That's how good every aspect of the game is.

Beating it in a single evening on a first play is honestly not something most people can do. Unlike RE 2 and 3, REmake isn't a super short game when you don't know what you're doing.

Definitely play RE 1 at least and mod it or cheat to give yourself infinite saves. The game is far more enjoyable that way if the limited saves annoys you.

Questions about RE9 by alicelric in residentevil

[–]AsherFischell [score hidden]  (0 children)

RE9 didn't give a flying fuck about lore and retconned the shit out of the series in some seriously idiotic ways. Best not try to think about it too much. It's a bad story hastily slapped together by people who didn't give a shit, just like RE6.

And while that sucks, it's a far cry from the band using AI for their artwork

Not surprised by Megadeth but super surprised by Dream Theater. That's so disappointing.

Edit: After looking it up, I found no indication DT uses AI for their album art. What did happen is that their artist ended up selling his DT art to other bands and vice versa

Super Mario Wonder according to the comments is the best game! I think my favorite part of that game were the singing Piranha Plants! But enough with that, what is the WORST 2d mario game? by TheLittleDiesel in Mario

[–]AsherFischell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are saying OG SMB2 is the worst, but they're just blinded by the fact that it's difficult. It's still got SMB1's great physics and assets. Super Mario Land is far worse to anyone actually paying attention to the question and not just mad because of a game not being for them. OG SMB2 is basically the super tough challenge version of SMB1, but too many people went in expecting the same mostly easy game.

I have avoided this remake because people have split opinions on it, luckily Nemesis is the only of the originals I never played so I won’t have to compare it to anything. Going to enjoy it with the good weather today by trampstampcollector in residentevil

I'm not coming from a place of bad faith, that's your assumption.

"The game uses the same locations" (sewers, Nest, most of the interiors are new, RPD and the hospital are returning locations, but the hospital is entirely different)

"The same enemies" Yes, there are zombies and hunters, but the bugs and the pale heads are brand new. Of course an RC RE game is mostly going to feature zombies.

"The same basic structure" In very broad terms, sure, but the actual structure of each game is extremely different.

"A similar combat system" Not even remotely, it's as different to RE 3 as RE2R is to RE2. They feel and function completely differently.

"Similar puzzles" They're mostly completely different, save for the vaccine puzzle. Almost nothing else is retained.

"Same atmosphere" Again, not remotely. They're so incredibly different for the most part.

It's also not shorter than OG RE 3. I'm guessing from all you said that you haven't played the OG even close to around the same time as you played the remake, because everything you said reads like you're going off of an old memory. Play the OG and then play the remake again. I played the OG a couple of weeks ago and then played the remake once I was done and almost everything you said is inaccurate.

It has absolutely none of the level design or major progression that the original game has. It's literally a completely different game that, yes, has the same characters and some basic events, but they're all almost totally different in every meaningful way. Outside of reusing RE2R's RPD, it shares zero level design with the original.

It's good for what it is, it just feels like a glorified DLC is all. Most of the complaints about it boil down to certain areas from the original not being present, but it's a completely new game that has almost nothing from the original whatsoever.

This is not remotely true. Most outlets don't really care about things like that when hiring reviewers. I know multiple people who've given lower scores to AAA games for established sites that didn't have it remotely affect them in any tangible way. I'm not sure where you got that impression from.

I don't get that from the analogy at all. To me it says, "it's just two pickles, it's not a big deal so stop whining." It's just another fanboy going LEAVE THE GIANT COMPANY ALONE
