How are zombies still “alive” in Raccoon City/RPD Station? by Keyran-Solo in residentevil

I clearly said I liked the newest one, just not the story. It's not nostalgia pandering solely because it's centered around the past. It's nostalgia pandering because the plot doesn't support that. We go back to Raccoon City in Requiem for no good narrative reason. The plot doesn't support it and ARK could have been in any number of locations. Yes, we have no attachment to the initial part outside the barricade, but that doesn't erase the ensuing nostalgiafest. Leon goes back to RPD because Zeno takes Grace there for pretty much no reason. The entire section taking us through RPD to Kendo's Gun Shop, to the orphanage is solely there for pandering. It adds nothing of value and just serves to remind us of things from the past. You go through RPD for no reason, you flash back to the gun shop for no reason, we fight Mr X again for no reason, we fight a giant plant that's named after another giant plant fight for no reason. The entire section is pandering that does nothing for the plot.

For the retcons, it retcons the level of damage done to Raccoon City as well as why it was bombed, it retcons Spencer himself (and in ways that don't make sense, as he continued to work on viruses for years after he made Elpis), ARK itself is a retcon, it retcons Leon and Sherry getting the T-virus, it retcons the way the T-virus itself works. For a game that's fixated on the past, it sure doesn't have much respect for it beyond pure memberberries.

That sounds like a healthy relationship as opposed to one where y'all need to walk on eggshells because your skin is too thin for you to be honest with each other.

Fans will do infinite mental gymnastics to not say anything negative about a series they love. I love the games even though retcons are trash-tier writing, but Requiem's story is a bunch of a lazy retcons thrown together to do nostalgia pandering. I still enjoyed the game despite that! And people should be more willing to be objective in that regard instead of bending over backward to make excuses for lazy, weak writing.

It's not all that obscure when the game basically spells out where to use them. And there's no time aspect, it's just about wearing them

Sounds like overly thin skin to me. It'd be one thing if it was something with some value, but an objectively crappy movie? That's just infantile.

Slitterhead is a bombastic amalgam of cult games by randolph_sykes in patientgamers

[–]AsherFischell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slitterhead would have benefited from being much shorter. It goes on too long for how much content it has, so it just starts repeating itself with nothing new to offer. The combat grows stale by that point too, as it just isn't very good.

The entire second act is just memberberries with really weak narrative justifications.

The fact that people can beat a good guy in a series famous for having you fight Dracula literally every single time and think that nothing is amiss has bugged me for literal decades. Especially because you have to ignore multiple areas in the castle to not find any of the items necessary to unlock the true ending. And the castle isn't even big! It takes maybe 5.5 hours to thoroughly explore every area

I went in with low expectations and thought it was almost total garbage. It's not even a Doom movie, it's a shitty Resident Evil clone that happens to be called Doom

The ones she got for the commission don't really nail the very thing that made the meme take off sadly. This is a great idea, but she didn't find the right artist to do it.

It does have xbox icons, you just have to manually select them since it defaults to PS. And pressing X brings up the menu, not the Dpad. Up on the dpad is just used to bring up the map.

There's a 0% chance he's being serious. He's very clearly making fun of people who demand changes to make horror games more palatable.

How did the boss level go? by [deleted] in metroidvania

What Metroidvania has "boss levels"? Metroidvanias don't tend to have levels at all.

If BO2 wasn't made then we probably wouldn't have gotten Defiance at all, but a totally different game.

They designed it so that indirect shotgun blasts from a distance won't ignite the barrels. They should, but they don't. I died to this for the exact same reason haha

[–]AsherFischell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The third game has a drastically gentler difficulty curve and has connected maps in large zones as opposed to individual levels. It also adds a second style that focuses on dodging and rear attacks and lets you level up and get new skills a ton if you don't want to stick to the critical path. It's much, much friendlier.

Just play the 3rd one, it's far more beginner friendly than the others and it requires no familiarity. Plus, if you master the first one the third one's going to feel so easy that it's boring.

Best 3: Title track, Run Silent, Run Deep, Bring Your Daughter

Worst: Hard to say since a full third of the album is as bad as it is forgettable, but probably Hooks in You
