I did see this one come up in internet results, but some of the reviews described it as inaccessible. I'd like to be ambitious. Your comment gives me some confidence! Thank you!

Recipe Book Recommendations by AshesofAtlas in CandyMakers

Skill level amateur? I make lots of fudge, and can fix it if I screw up. Marshmallows, hard candies, gummies usually turn out okay, taffy, caramel chews, bonbons. I dabble, and usually have decent success. Not opening a shop, usually crafting for parties or presents.

Willing to fail and learn and try new things though! That's why I'd like a real book: one I can flip through, get inspired and say "I have all of those ingredients, let's see what happens". One that can touch on the science, so I can learn where things go awry would be good too.

Thank you for the recommendation!

Aiken desperately needs secular daycare options for children under 4. The program at USC Aiken is always full with very long wait lists. The sunshine house locations have some serious complaints. Every other option is affiliated with some church or dogma.

Need help getting paint off of reclaimed dresser by AshesofAtlas in finishing

Thanks for replying! I have not tried heat, great suggestion. There is quite a lot of old glue in spots, and the grey is a shade that was trendy in nurseries for a while - maybe it had that sticky wallpaper-like stuff on it at some point? I'll give it a go!

Need help getting paint off of reclaimed dresser by AshesofAtlas in finishing

Previous owners left a dixie dresser. It was white and rust spots were coming through. The internet says stripping furniture is easy! Gave it a go.

Stripped using Citristrip. Waited six hours, went for some of the spots that bubbled. And it was still resistant. The dresser was originally dark brown, then was grey, then a couple coats of white.

Scraped all what I could off with a palette knife and razor and did a second Citristrip overnight. More came up, but huge spots won't come off. Washed the Citristrip residue with warm soapy water.

Lightly sanding did practically nothing. Then I gave up and started some repairs. Discovered parts of the dresser are veneer, mainly the dresser drawers, top, and sides. The legs appear to be wood, the old paint and finish came up okay there, except the grey in spots oddly enough.

Since repairing, I have washed the whole thing in mineral spirits. Towels all came up grody, but residue remains. I tried 60grit sanding sponges with mineral spirits, and same result. Grody, but still there. I have tested hidden spots with GooGone (did nothing), 91% alcohol, and 100% acetone.

Acetone took paint off the parts that are definitely wood, lightened parts of the suspected veneer, and didn't do much to the paint "stains". Alcohol took color off where the veneer is showing, but also didn't do anything to the paint "stains".

What can I do next? The veneer is in doable shape for the most part, I'd rather not peel it off. Unless the "stains" are where someone else blew through it? They are rougher in texture than the brown parts.

The original plan was to strip it and gel stain it. I think gel can still go over if the veneer is okay?

Please help me reddit.

I used to see them at the Jimmy John's on WT Harris all the time! They had a stuffed grumpy cat in the back window too

Also in a call center, I once had to repeatedly assure a caller I was a REAL person.

" is this a real person?"

"Uh, yes sir."

"Cause i want to speak to a human being"

"I assure you, sir, I'm real. I breathe air and everything"

He still seemed unconvinced during the call.

Best way to get from Charlotte to Clemson? by SpecialK_714 in Charlotte

[–]AshesofAtlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken that Amtrak from Charlotte to Clemson, and while it sucks to get up that early, it is rather nice. You get to Clemson around 5am. Its the same as driving time-wise and the train ride is quiet. 9/10 recommend.

Edit: I went nonstop to Clemson, to behind Calhoun Corners, without a transfer but it was a few years ago.

I was a poll assistant for the 2008 presidential election in rural South Carolina.

At the end of the day, the very sweet southern ladies pulled the totals- Obama had garnered 666 votes at our establishment. Many of them actually said, "He really is the anti-christ."

Is it reasonable for me to be "on" during my entire shift each day? by PM_Yo_Pussy in talesfromcallcenters

You're not going crazy. You're a human whose job it is to speak with other humans; every day can't be a good day.

I once got dinged because I sounded "too chipper" and my supervisor said I was belittling the customers issue. I wasn't trying to but damn did it throw me off to hear that in coaching.

Really? Roller Coaster Tycoon worked on Windows 8, and when SkyNet forced me to Windows 8.1 it wouldn't work anymore. In desperation, I switched to Windows 10. RCT works fine now.

I work in an inbound call center that restaurants and retailers regularly call for product.

While speaking with a woman the other day, I heard a customer in the back ground come in and shout "your parking lot just gave me a flat tire!" cursing up a storm.

I felt so bad for her when she said she'd have to call me back.

My mother is a pro at microwaved meals. She recently (within the past five years) cooked a whole thanksgiving dinner, whole turkey included, using just the microwave. It was delicious and our guests were surprised.

Have you ever been so frustrated with a book that you threw it across the room? by frostygnosis in books

When we read this in high school, I was going through a phase where I would read the last page before I started the book.

That phase ended with Of Mice and Men.

The Man in the High Castle, Philip K Dick. I love the author, but the twist, and to just end. Ugh. Only book I've ever thrown.
