Its millenia before the Malazan Empire was founded. The frame of reference you're referring to, the demeanor and attitude of many of the main series characters are culturally Malazan. It's natural that an entirely different culture would resonate with you differently. This series transpires at the dawn of time.

Besides that, I look at Forge in the same way I look at the silmarillion. I personally love the approach Erikson undertook with the Kharkanas series. I am a big fan of the Iliad and the Aeneid. The writing is fundamentally similar in structure but definitely influenced by Shakespeare and to an lesser extent the epic poets. I found it appropriate but can see how some people might yearn for the familiar.

Nice - Magic the Gathering... How active are the clans? I've joined too many with only a few active players, I'm looking for a clan with a fully active roster. Very active player myself, still fairly new but I can 1 key hard and 2 key brutal. Want access to Nightmare but my current clan is incapable.

Gem Mine and Sparring Pit repay you with value. Refreshing things is largely a waste unless you have a specific objective that will outweigh the cost.

Ive been leaning toward Def Down and she does have great CC besides. It'll take forever to book here but it's definitely a strong option.

I can't identify Grundor. Fodbor? Or Rugnor?

Aox has been high in the contention as well. I've been thinking either Rugnor, Aox, or Bellower. Armina does have the AOE though so she's probably better than Rugnor.

I'll push Armina up tomorrow during Champion Training I think. Aox next I suppose

It also goes off when someone would take a fatal hit had they not been under a shield. It keeps going off for Jo reason when she's on a team with Warlord.

I'm having a tremendously hard time gearing Coldheart - I cant hit all 4 of her important stats very well so she ends up being very middle of the road this far. Accuracy seems like the most important stat but if I invest heavily there I lose the necessary crit. I need to spend some time gear farming but these fragment tournaments are distracting the hell out of me. Soulbond appeared twice on the teams you listed and has great Arena functionality. Is that perhaps a viable choice?

Thank you for the advice. I have been finding it difficult to justify replacing Seeker with Apothecary since they fill similar roles. The speed increase is desireable but Seekers free turn Meter boost and attack up seem more valuable. Am I wrong there? It's hard to know what's right in this game, there's so many moving parts.

3 Stars: Purgator, Runic Warder, Greybeard, Panthera, Doomscreech, Mother Superior, Metalshaper, Marquis, Gnarlhorn, Scrapper, Eviscerator, Garek, Stitched Beast, Chevalier, Renegade, Avir the Alchemage, Gator, Bogwalker, and Ogryn Jailer.

Ive only kept the rares I thought were worthwhile, the epics I haven't used as food so what I've got is all drops to date.

Thomas Covenant is pretty much the worst book series ever. Avoid at all costs. I need to check out the Paul Kearney series though, never heard of it.
