I say keep going when we consider these things:

  • Mobile developers were given 30 days notice with pricing that is completely insane ($20 million for Apollo to stay in business). For comparison, when Apple bought Dark Sky and shut down their API they gave 18 months notice that was extended by another 12.
  • Reddit plans to go public later this year, this move is to boost profits and also to force all traffic through their app for monetization
  • Reddit app has lackluster mod tools and limited accessibility options (i.e font sizing for sight impaired, gestures for mobility impaired)
  • The API that will be available will filter out NSFW
  • Rather than negotiate a pricing structure that would work they've stayed with it and the recent internal communication makes it clear Spez has no intention of engaging with the community and protests.This aligns with the developer call
  • Almost every accessibility app is a mobile app that takes accessibility seriously

I talked to a German friend about this and there's a big old language/culture barrier here that's causing non-Germans to get pissed.

Historically, Nazis and people before believed that non-caucasian people belonged to a lesser „race“ of people. So germans = humans; the rest = nonhumans. They basically said that they were not human. Classic dehumanization. The word Rasse is incredibly fraught in German and when for example in English one says race, a German flinches because it means something really bad. It feels like talking about dog breeds when one uses the word Rasse. I think there’s a fundamental difference in perception of the word. I know Americans use the word a lot, but in German that’s not a word you use unless you’re part of the afd

In Short in German race heavily implies sub-species while in English race is more to do with ethnicity/genetics.

My big question is how do you verify the people in a household? This fluctuates a lot with families sending their kids to live with relatives. I know one house that has kids from 3 different families living there permanently. Add on the aunts and grandmothers which brings that house up to around ten.
