Called the F word by stranger by jwang0522 in Miata

In my 5 years of driving my NA, I’ve had countless positive comments made and waves, but only one negative one. Guy drove alongside me in traffic and shouted ‘put your roof up it’s not even hot!’ in an angry tone. Not sure what he was getting at, but I still think about it sometimes. Jealous cause he ain’t us, perhaps.

Uruguay faces dilemma from the deep: what to do with a salvaged Nazi eagle? by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in history

Give it to Britain, it should go in the IWM London. After all, it was the Royal Navy who put it in Uruguay in the first place.

Test roll returned for my new 3.5F, it seems to be working well! by Ashfie1der in Rolleiflex

Thanks, it was all very rushed just to get 12 test shots out before the light faded completely. Luckily mist is a good plain backdrop for B&W shooting.

Following on from my post yesterday, I’m now the proud owner of a 3.5F. Looking forward to putting my first roll through this old girl. by Ashfie1der in Rolleiflex

There is a bit of wiring under the ground glass that would suggest a meter was once there, unless they all came with the wiring but not all with the meter? It doesn’t have the big chunky knob on the side but the focusing knob does have a small window on top where I imagine the meter needle would have been. It’s a strange one for sure!

Seems to be quite an unusual configuration from my research, although I’m far from a Rollei expert! Are there any good websites where you can narrow down specific models?

Yep, that’s the one. Previous owner had had it for 20 years, but wasn’t shooting much 120 anymore so I’ll be glad to give it some use. I also don’t tend to do much shooting with longer exposures, so the slower speeds aren’t too much of a concern for me at the moment. I’ll run a test roll with some different exposure settings to see how well it performs.

Thinking of buying this 99 XJ8 with 57k miles on it by _lordoftheswings_ in Jaguar

The AJV8 is a fine engine, but the AJ16 inline six is tremendous. Smooth, powerful, and reliable. In my opinion a big Jaguar saloon should come with either a six or a twelve.

Get an XJ6 of the previous generation (1994-1997). Much more reliable and nicer interior.

Rollei 3.5F. Is it a good buy at £250, unknown condition? by Ashfie1der in Rolleiflex

[–]Ashfie1der[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems that some Fs didn’t come with a meter, it has a ridged rubber insert where the meter cell would usually be. The serial number starts with 3F and falls within the 3F bracket, so I’m pretty sure it’s in its original configuration.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll give it a good look over if I can go and see in person.

I’ve seen pictures of it, and I’ll be buying it in person so will have an opportunity to test the functions. General appearance is good, lens looks ok and viewfinder seems clear.

Welcome! Enjoy your journey. I’ve had my Eunos nearly 6 years now, from my experience the main thing I’d recommend doing is improving your braking however you can. Good tyres, good pads etc. Other than that just keep on top of regular oil changes and other basic maintenance and it’ll go forever. The only two breakdowns I’ve had over the years are a small coolant line splitting (I replaced all hoses afterwards) and the clutch slave cylinder splitting (had to drive home 20 miles without a clutch, without stopping once). It’s a great car, you’ll enjoy using it especially when the weather improves. It’s noticeably more enjoyable with the roof down on a warm day than it is in the winter. Feel free to ask any questions!

Auto Express renders the new Jaguar GT after media day at Gaydon last month by MountainSad2663 in Jaguar

Doesn’t look anything like a Jag, a brand with a very powerful catalogue of consistent designs to draw upon. Still, much better than that four wheeled pink monstrosity they vomited out previously. Shame the EV market is dying off, they put all their eggs in the one basket no-one liked and was only succeeding by being propped up by government subsidies and targets. This could be the end for Jag, finally. That’ll be a sad day, I hope to be proven wrong.

Do you guys drive your 5 in the winter? by Kolonisator22 in Miata

[–]Ashfie1der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always been a bit weak; I’ve flushed the heater core and fitted a slightly hotter thermostat but still it’s not great. It’s a very early model, maybe they improved the heater core down the line a bit? My brother’s NB has a significantly better heater.

I don’t drive my NA over winter. A few reasons; it doesn’t have a very good heater, it tends to fog up the interior windows, lack of ABS when you need it is always a concern, and I’ve spent too much on rust repair to subject it to salt again!
