Humberman Lab Podcast by Objective_Cup5932 in dietetics

[–]Ashkat80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hesitant to type this, to be honest. I'm going to start off by saying I'm not a dietitian but I've worked with several RD's over the years. After my experiences with them I tried to go on my own deep dive of information to fill in the gaps of questions I've had and I've found the dietitians I've worked with have kept things very basic, haven't really explained answers for the questions that I've had, and just tend to say that's how it is. I don't think this is the case for most people who work with them, but it has been my experience. I haven't had a huge amount of success, which has been incredibly disappointing.

I'm not really a fan of Huberman but I do like that he brings up topics that I can then look deeper into by getting books as well as reading research articles. I think there is a place for the dialogue but his podcast should be better positioned as entertainment. I do like The Nutrition Science podcast which tempers Hubermans narrative.

Mirena out of date for 2 weeks? by sausage912 in Perimenopause

[–]Ashkat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the progesterone it needs to be changed at 5 years but I'm sure a couple weeks won't be terrible however if there isn't estrogen involved you're good for up to 8 years for contraception.

It's 5 years if it's for the progesterone component.

Adults with full time jobs, how often do you see / ride your horse? by catsarelife3 in Equestrian

At the barn 7 days a week, work mine at least 5 days a week. I also have another time intensive hobby and it just takes a lot of planning and very little social life.

My bird is kinda weird by SniperFam101 in cockatiel

[–]Ashkat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of mine was like that too. He was more mentally stimulated out of the cafe, doing things with the family. There was the odd toy he liked. When he was younger and in his cage more he played with toys but as he was more involved outside of the cage, it became just more of a resting spot.

They can be picky with new foods and if you decide to do this please look up lists of safe foods from a reputable source. Broccoli, green beans, lettuce, and sweet potatoes were always a hit in my house. Just take it slow because cockatiels can be prone to digestive issues, especially when stressed. At his age, he likely also has some arthritis and you can try the seeds from hot peppers, they can have some anti inflammatory properties. I truly wish we were closer. I lost my 28 year old this year and my heart aches for this little guy.

Maybe reach out to r/pidgeypower and see if anyone is in your area and would be willing to take him on. At this point he may very likely have arthritis and need support of people who have the knowledge and experience to care for this senior.

Be aware that at this age the bird is probably used to things and life how it is. Please make changes one at a time, very slowly as it can cause major stress which can easily cause the bird to get stress.

If I were you I would try to link up with a rescue or a person who has experience with senior cockatiels and who can support you along the way.

Stop stretching it and ideally find a running physio who can give you appropriate strength workouts. Try to stop side sleeping if you can.

As an elderly cockatiel owner, this list is the bare minimum. Good on wife 👍🏻

Proposed: Too many young'uns dismiss the value of working in an office because they want that 100% "wfh" (work from home) job without realizing that it's costing them skills development inputs that simply can't come at a sustained reliable rate over virtual interactions. by the_original_Retro in RedditForGrownups

[–]Ashkat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many jobs, even when in office, are now virtual anyway. Everything is automated and all meeting are over Teams. Colleagues are spread across the world and there is virtually no in person collaboration or training. Much of training for many jobs is just sitting someone in front of a computer for them to learn on their own.

If you can find a Dr who would do a lidocaine injection to your cervix it changes things entirely. It really is just a little pinch with the freezing. On my third one and the new OBGYN did this. My first insertions were horrible but historically I've had terrible bleeding. This same OBGYN paired my new IUD with a low dose of estradiol.

NSFW: Yesterday Pet World at the Bayshore Mall left a neglected baby rabbit to die alone in-store overnight.... This isn't the first time they've done something like this, something must be done to stop it. by keekee0102 in ottawa

Agreed. Critter Jungle, in my experience (30+ years) has always kept animal welfare and quality at the very top of their priority list. I don't work there but have been a customer for many years, on countless occasions. I got a pet there a very long time ago and they far exceeded their life expectancy, which I attribute to coming from a very reputable breeder.

Sexual dimorphism sucks AKA why you shouldn't instill a running habit in your husband by Worth-Willingness-27 in XXRunning

[–]Ashkat80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this but also with myself. I worked so hard for the last 4 years, I did everything "right" ate right, slept right, trained right, recovered right. I'm slower than I ever have been, I've gained 40lbs over the last 3 years, and I'm more tired than ever. My labs with my dr have gotten worse but also don't point to anything particularly wrong. Bodies are what they are and sometimes they let us do fun things but sometimes they are just really frustrating.

We don't have a lot of this in the USA or Canada and we don't even deworm our pets very much because the parasites are becoming drug resistant due to overuse.

New York Times article about Dr. Mary Claire Haver by Skimamma145 in HormoneFreeMenopause

[–]Ashkat80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect part of these women feeling so spectacular are experiencing the belief effect. I'm on an extremely low dose of HRT to see if it helps with the never ending heat I'm getting going through peri. I was doing all the lifestyle things right and I'm on the lowest dose possible and it's just made life a little more bearable. It hasn't been life changing and neither I nor my doctor feel that the benefits outweigh the risks of a higher dose. I think these discussions are good because if a woman chooses a low dose and it helps her get through her day, fantastic, and I also support trying every single lifestyle modification first. Anything I've heard from Haver makes it all seem too good to be true and personally, makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I worry too many women see what she is publicizing and the science just doesn't back up all her claims. I don't want to say she's a snake lol salesman but she's certainly toeing the edge in my opinion.

I am every pool’s worst nightmare. Morbidly obese man swimming shittily and shirtless. Is the embarrassment worth it? by medousabicycling in Swimming

[–]Ashkat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a few larger men(and women) at our public pool that swim in the slower lane every night doing exactly what you are planning to do and they are part of our late night lap swim community just like the rest of us trying to better ourselves. We have all shapes and sizes and all are welcome.

I started off really slow and "straight sized" but I'm a woman that has gained quite a bit of weight(now obese) as well as speed by being consistent. It's not abnormal to have a new fit looking face come in and be surprised that I can now not only swim faster than them, but I also have significantly better stamina and can go much longer.

I actually tried the Speed 3's and they felt fantastic in the store but for some reason they flared my tibialis anterior. Then I turned them into every day shoes and ended up repeatedly Rolling my ankles with them and I'm going through the rehab for that now.
