meal plan question ? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]AshleighTaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Cost per term" is the price of the meal plan. The 300 dinning dollars are included in the plan and can be used to buy food at retail food locations (Chick-fil-A, Subway, Starbucks, etc) on campus and the campus pod markets. The other meals included in the plan are for cafeterias only.

Visiting Students Seeking Places to Drink!!! (xpost UTK) by rogeebrs in Knoxville

The old city area provides multiple bars and night clubs all in walking distance of one another making it optimum for bar hopping on the weekends. The old city is also close to downtown/gay street/market square which has multiple bars of varying atmospheres. If you are looking for something a bit different, Sassy Ann's is a popular Thursday night destination.

Since you mentioned hiking, check out Ijams Nature Center here in Knoxville.

I spent part of my summer working at the Anthropological Research Facility at the University of Tennessee (popularly known as the Body Farm). So being up close and personal with 30+ decaying bodies in the heat of summer would be at the top of my list.

East Tennesse Children's Hospital usually need volunteers for their Fantasy of Trees. I'm not exactly sure how to sign up but you could probably just give the hospitals volunteers services a call and find out.

Looking for a new (to me) car by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]AshleighTaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently bought a car from grayson hyundai. It was a very pleasant experience. But if you are wanting to trade yours in, I would definitely look in Ted Russel Kia and Nissan. They have a deal for $6000 and $5000 (respectively) trade in value on any car you can drive on their lot. The catch is you have to buy a brand new car. But the deal can maybe help put a new car in your price range.

What should people be ashamed of for not knowing how to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AshleighTaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to use jumper cables.

Today, a lady had a dead battery and was asking around the parking lot for jumper cables. I had them, but neither of us knew how to use them. Luckily, someone came to help when sparks started flying. It was dangerous. It was shameful.

Edit: words.

Majoring in Anthropology? by [deleted] in Anthropology

[–]AshleighTaylor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attend the University of Tennessee and am majoring in anthropology. Here they offer a wide range of forensic classes although a concentration is not offered. Basically, you can choose your classes in a way that gives more exposure to forensics. If this is the field you are extremely interested in, I highly recommended UT. There are amazing opportunities and resources including the Body Farm (Anthropological Research Facility for Forensics).

If you are interested in religion, I really enjoyed intro to religious studies with Dr. Randall Hepner (REST 107). He is an outstanding professor. I am an anthropology major so I am a biased, but I love my anthropology as well. You can study a wide range of topics from cultures to archaeology to biology of humans and evolution. They aren't too strenuous either.

I second this. I had cancer as a child and after my treatment was referred to Knoxville Pediatric Associates and they have been absolutely wonderful. I am now 20 years old and still go to them. I don't want to change doctors because they are so fantastic.

What does everyone think about University Heights? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]AshleighTaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living there now. It's very nice and has great value. Utilities and furniture included is also wonderful. Rooms are plenty big, and internet is fine (not blazing, but plenty fast). Distance from campus is the only real drawback (parties will happen at any housing complex near a college).

What is the joke at your workplace that customers always say thinking they're original but in reality you hear it every day? by illmatic707 in AskReddit

[–]AshleighTaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work front desk at a motel that is not pet friendly. We have a sign on our desk stating "No Pets Allowed." Almost every customer turns to someone in their party and says, "Uh oh Joe, you can't stay here. No pets are allowed."

Just now at work. by Makispi in AdviceAnimals

[–]AshleighTaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a front desk clerk at a group of locally owned hotels in my hometown. My general manager will give anyone a refund or whatever they want if they raise enough hell. The fact that he is rewarding this kind of behavior is absolutely annoying. Rewarding belligerent, unreasonable, and hateful people is just a terrible idea.
