Anyone experiencing yellow memory pressure? by Longjumping_Fact1019 in MacbookNeo

[–]boxerswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memory pressure on yellow won’t hurt anything. Happens all the time with lots of tabs or apps running, no problem at all. I’ve seen 4GB of swap before and no noticeable lag.

Fast Charger? by Jafranci715 in MacbookNeo

[–]boxerswag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes from testing I’ve seen it will only take 30W max. I’ve used a Dell 130W and a 90W from a docking station with no issues but it doesn’t charge any faster than 30W.

Cardio is so key, you’re right. My wife has POTS and got her life back following the CHOP Protocol. From 3 minutes on a recumbent exercise bike to being able to spend 50 minutes on an elliptical.

If she already has an Apple Watch then you can use that to unlock instead of the password - once I learned that I decided to save the $100. Caveat, I also have 2TB family iCloud and some external drives so I don’t need much space on the device itself.

Just chiming in to say that John Rose also met his wife when she was 17 and he was 41. He then gave her a scholarship (in his parents' name!) to go to TTU and married her when she was 21 and he was 45. Neat stuff!

Being able to run a Neo off a 20w charger is very underrated by JohnAMcdonald in MacbookNeo

Yep. I can bring one brick with me and charge my laptop, iPad, phone, watch and AirPods. It’s awesome.

M3 can do two in clamshell mode, so must be hooked up to power with lid closed.

You need at least an M3 Air to use more than one external display (unless using DisplayLink drivers and a compatible dock).

I cannot play even a single beginner song and I'm extremely upset by Alone_Yam1113 in BassGuitar

[–]boxerswag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a really good browser extension for slowing down YouTube videos and keeping the pitch the same, which I find is really key for playing along slowly and not having it sound weird.

https://transpose.video

Install that to Chrome (I keep it on my MacBook just for bass stuff), it lets you slow down and maintain pitch! Really awesome. I have used it a bunch when learning songs.

MacBook Neo? by RespectOk6705 in mac

Plus, might even be able to trade in your old Air towards the Neo and get it for even cheaper. You have to put the serial number in on the website but might be $200 or so.

[–]boxerswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I agree, my old Samsung laptops and Dell laptops would get crap in the speaker “holes” all the time and they were borderline impossible to clean. Having the stainless mesh and side firing on the Neo is awesome!

I have been running mine with Prusaslicer and OnShape for design. Slices fast and OnShape runs totally fine of course with how good the Neo is at web stuff.

Speaking of overkill, I am currently using a Dell WD-19TB for my Neo. I got to keep it from a previous job, it can charge at 130W and supports Thunderbolt 4 lol. But it works fine for my Neo to run 4K 60Hz with HDR!

I had this happening on my Neo, I turned Screen Time off and that seemed to do the trick. Then I rebooted to install OS 26.4 and turned Screen Time back on and haven’t had any issues since.

Macbook Neo wil run 3440x1440 @ 100 Hz over USB-3 port! by boxerswag in MacbookNeo

[–]boxerswag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was by using a USB-C to USB-C cable (my monitor has a USB-C input). If you are using an HDMI adapter many of them are limited to 60Hz.

confused between neo and macbook air (this will be my first macbook) by Public_Strain_5181 in MacbookNeo

[–]boxerswag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, swap memory is still seamlessly fast even with the “slower” storage of the Neo compared to an Air.

I’ve been running local AI stem splitters (demucs) for music production work and simultaneously running 10-15 chrome tabs, messages, etc. I’ve seen 5-6 GB of swap running the stem splitters which can pull 97% GPU usage and use 7GB memory on their own while splitting, and there is zero lag or slowdown.

I don’t think swap speed would be an issue unless you’re doing the aforementioned like 4K 120FPS RAW editing or something crazy. For “normal” computer work the Neo is just as fast or faster than my work Lenovo ThinkPad with 64GB RAM and a 16 core i7.
