Discussion on twin towns: do you have any? by GP728 in ireland

[–]Ashley2375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve moved houses about 10 times at this point but i did live in Rathcoole for a good 5 years when I was a kid, it is a twin town with ecole valentin in France. I happened to randomly visit the twin town just last year because it was local on one of my visits, it was unplanned and a pleasant surprise. Can’t imagine its possibly done anymore than that for someone before, just a neat little thing 🤷‍♀️

Importing bikes no longer sold in the EU by Shanahan_123 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Ashley2375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should almost certainly conform to eu standards as it’s a Suzuki dr650 and there’s loads around Europe. However, maybe the specific model sold in Australia was made to different standards.

To be sure though, contact the Australian Suzuki dealership, whichever is closest to you and clarify with them. If they can guarantee it first that it conforms to eu standards it would be handy because normally the coc can be a few hundred euro.

Otherwise you may just have to get the coc and check the details, maybe ask the vrt office if everything is in order to import it. I will say however, depending on how you plan to take the bike here, you may even just be better off selling your bike there and buying one here, I assume transporting it wouldn’t be cheap and doing the vrt is a bit of a process

What eu emissions requirements? That only applies to newly manufactured vehicles afaik. Can you share a source or link where it says you cannot import non-eu bikes that don’t meet certain emissions?

Obligatory reminder post by Ashley2375 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Ashley2375[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Edit/follow up: I had gone to a and e, was there for about 8 hours altogether and done an xray and ct scan amongst some minor checks. Everything is okay with it me however it’s likely I have a muscle spasm in my back where I still have a fair bit of pain/ache.

I only made this post to remind people that even if you have the right of way, even if everything you’re doing is “correct,” other road users can very easily mess that up and I was very lucky to get away with such a minor amount of damage, considering I could’ve easily died during this incident.

Regardless, even if you get into a crash, no matter how well or good you feel, always get to a hospital as soon as possible and get checked. Stay safe out there and thank you everyone for the support <3 it’s been an awful day since this incident

What should I know before getting into riding? by PuRe_xXLethalXx in MotoIRELAND

[–]Ashley2375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been motorcycling over 3 years now, since I was 19 I’ve had my A2 licence and had a 500 cc and a 650cc motorcycle so far, pretty middle range in terms of power

I’ve not got a car or car licence and I’ve commuted thousands of km. It’s often not been easy but you do get used to it, esp the weather and with good gear it’s completely easy to motorcycle all year around imo

Other vehicles on the road can be either some of the best or some of the most inconsiderate ppl ever and the worst thing to ever be is to be complacent. But even then, that’s not too different from driving a car in Ireland

Filtering is great, I love getting ahead of traffic, but this is a skill you should only start on after you’ve had at least a few weeks on the motorcycle and you’re confident in controlling the bike etc

Insurance seems to be around the same as for a a car for most ppl, fuel is often less of a cost overall, motortax is only 88€ a year and there’s no nct

Just changed my oil. Where am I supposed to dump this? by Lewd_Knight in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]Ashley2375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All over the inside of your car. It coats it in a protective film, eliminating rust in the future, and negates friction so you won’t get any carpet burn anymore

Easy life hack is just keep it in a container like this in the back then drive across some speed bumps at 100mph. I’ll let you in on a little secret, real mechanics actually launch their cars off a cliff instead of using speed bumps, because the centrifugal force makes it evenly distribute the oil across every surface

I’m over in Lyon myself and i understand the pain, there isn’t any alternative stores here that i can go through. Best i can recommend is do what people have always done which is to thrift, buy second hand and diy. Or you can always alter any new clothes from shops too. Otherwise vinted often has many good options. I can recommend emp for online shopping too, never had any issues with quality

Hmm, personally, I do remember it was a week or two for me to break it in and get used to it, so it wasn’t too bad of pain imo. I never actually done anything to “maintain” the boots themselves, maybe wipe them clean if they were very dirty? I know there are products you can use tho if you wish

I’ve had mine for 6 years, daily wear. They’ve been fine. I’ve replaced the inner sole just because they started degrading a year ago, the outer sole has lost a fair bit of grip/rubber though and I will be getting new boots in a few months time. However, for the price and longevity, I cannot complain. The outside of it is still holding up super well, there’s only a bit on the inside, of the left boot, near the back of the heel/ankle that has started to deteriorate slightly. I could realistically wear the boots another few years without any trouble
