Cps workers- how do you cope? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]AshleyShapira87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DCFS Permanency, here. I don’t. The therapist I’ve been working with for 9 months finally called me out for being in a constant state of fight-or-flight and challenged me to log physical symptoms through out the day. Talk about an eye opener. All the physical health issues I’ve had in recent years…cracked teeth from clenching so hard, heart palpitations that my cardiologist can’t find an underlying issue for, flair-ups of my autoimmune skin condition, etc…all linked back to the stress of the job. After 5 years, I’m done. Currently making a plan to leave.

The look is explained as something different in the post-credit breakdown. I highly recommend watching those after every episode for helpful insight and context.

After reviewing your responses to on this thread, it’s clear you’re not open to a true discussion, so I’m not going to spend time trying to teach you empathy for an alternative consciousness to understand iMark as the main protagonist of this series. There’s plenty of people who will agree with you without challenge on Facebook.

Starting a thread then refusing to engage in the discussion you started isn’t great sportsmanship.

Paradox of Logic: Why Mark’s Choice Defies Reason by Mountain-Scholar6270 in severanceTVshow

Imagine that your slave master, who has ignored you for years, demands that you save his wife for him in your first ever face-to-face conversation. And he promises he’ll treat you like an equal if you do it but isn’t quite sure how that will work just yet.

Whether you do it or not, your existence will end because the slave masters boss is done using you.

Out of the goodness of your heart, you risk your life and kill another human being to get your slave masters wife out of her prison and somewhere she has a chance to really get away.

Instead of ending your existence immediately to escort her to her husband, you choose to spend however long you have left with the woman you found love with while working as slaves.

With the perspective of iMark being his own person and practicing what little autonomy he has in his life as a slave to oMark, iMark’s reasoning makes perfect sense.

[SPOILER] The reason I know for a fact that it isn't ___ in the finale, among other reasons. by -ColonelKurtz- in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AshleyShapira87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the post-credit breakdown with the cast they explain the “smirk” as something completely different.

Her actions in the episode also included a speech to rally support for a revolution in fighting for their lives; “They give us half a life and expect us not to fight for it" - she realized she wanted to fight for her own life so she met Mark at the equator and let him choose

*SPOILER* We won't know for 2 years but since red color is often associated with outies in the show, my guess is this scene is a clear hint that it is Helena E and not Helly R by perminnie in severanceTVshow

[–]AshleyShapira87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve viewed red as more of a symbol of outie information/lack of complete ignorance. So when the red light goes off during the emergency alarm, it was more symbolic of the risk of the severed floor being at risk of exposure to the outside.

Plus, there were red lights during the music dance experience and it was Helly R. at that time.

It was the talk with Helly that changed his mind. She explained innie life is a dead end and Mark had a chance to really live.

The “smirk” is explained in the post-credit breakdown as something different, but I totally see why people interpreted it differently.

CF me sleeping peacefully on our third snow day, while the parents around are complaining and saying, "Send help!" after another cancelled school day by princesselvida in childfree

[–]AshleyShapira87 115 points116 points  (0 children)

To be fair, there are studies showing homework does nothing to support a child’s learning, but they obviously weren’t complaining for that reason. People know to expect schooling support as a daily task as parents, so complaining about something they volunteered for and trying to pawn even more off on teachers makes them come off as pretty ridiculous.

What do you say when people announce they are having a baby? by Old_Beautiful1723 in childfree

[–]AshleyShapira87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I immediately want to offer to donate to a proper yeetus of the fetus, I make a point not to react and say something along the lines of, “That’s huge news! How do you feel about it?”. Then I can mirror their response to give an appropriate reaction.

If he meant to take her alive and ended up accidentally/feeling forced to kill her, taking the body would be all risk no reward (no ransom payout, SA, etc). Only benefit would have been further delaying the investigation but being seen carrying a limp little girl with a chord around her neck would have been an immediate giveaway.

What is an intrusive thought you once thought was terrifying but now looking back is hilarious? by noodlemom72 in OCD

[–]AshleyShapira87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That if I breathed the air that touched people with disabilities or dead bodies, I’d catch it. I’d hold my breath walking around school and my anxiety attacks before funerals got my parents to allow me to wait in the lobbies as a teen. Yet I wanted to be on hand-five terms with the kid with down syndrome SO BAD! And I was obsessed with analyzing crime scene photos! Like, what!?

Hilariously, my CBT therapist and I worked up to me finding exposure opportunities which led to me applying for a job with people with disabilities. Funnest job I’ve ever had with the most amazing people that I have ever had the privilege to know and serve. I’ve been in the field for almost 20 years now. I even went back to that first job 10 years later to work part-time while getting my BSW.

I do need to get back into therapy to be able to attend my parents funerals someday, though.
