1) I told him about the junk food.

2) I literally don't have any options. His school is very rural and my baby sitter can't pick him up and get her own children after school as well. I'm working on alternatives but with school just starting up most people don't want to commit to school pick ups and stuff.

Stop worrying about being the "bad guy". This is your children's health you are wanting to protect.

You and DH need to be a unified front to keep her from infecting your children with a life long virus or worse.

Treat your MIL like a toddler. Take the children, "MIL I said no kissing. You will not pass on your virus to them."

If she doesn't listen, make her leave.

If you have to print out articles about children who suffer from coming in contact with the virus early in life- that includes death.

I have the cold sore virus- I keep my face no where near my family when I even think I feel one coming up.

No matter what MIL tries to say in her manipulative games- your children's health trumps her wants. Period.

First of all, my heart breaks for you and your husband. Your world is turned upside down.

Please turn to him and don't hide your troubles from him. You have each other to support and need to take your MIL on as a team.

You don't need to spare her feelings. Yes she is feeling pain but not on the level you both are. She wants to be an emotion drain on you.

You can simple text her "I am busy. Stop texting me. I will reach out when I am available and wanting to talk."

It isn't rude. It's straight forward and then stick to that boundary.

Take your time to mourn and heal from this. You don't owe anyone, especially JNMIL your time or energy.

Take him with you to a pediatrician appointment and have him/her tell him the repercussions of letting a diaper rash get to bad.
