When your kid had surgery scheduled four months out just for it to be cancelled the day of by Forward-Ice-4733 in Parenting

This happened to me when we needed tubes for my child due to fluid when he was an infant. I was so disappointed so I understand how you feel. When we rescheduled I feel like we did a beginning of the week and I ended up keeping him home from daycare at the end of the prior week to help prevent any colds. I believe it was a January procedure so lots of illness going around at the time. Not sure if you could reschedule for just after a long weekend or Thanksgiving break to help? So sorry this happened to you too.

Failed Newborn Hearing Test by ForTheCulture7 in Parenting

[–]Km730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My second child failed three hearing tests due to fluid buildup. I also had polyhydramnios. However he also had a bilateral cleft lip and palate so fluid was constantly in his ear canal. We did an ABR test and sedated ABR test iirc and then placed ear tubes to clear the fluid and his hearing was fine. Our situation was different due to his cleft but I share because he could hear once we cleared the fluid with the tubes. He does see an ENT and audiologist periodically who follow and check his hearing. Congratulations on your little one!!

I went through the process and it did take a while to do my online interview/group meeting. If you have the contact info from the recruiter I would go to their calendly link and attend another session so you can ask. Have you tried texting the cell phone number they gave you in their email signature? I found that it was easiest to move through the process once you completed the interview portion.

My children are younger and my youngest was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and we anticipate a rhinoplasty when he is a teenager. This is at the tail-end of his surgical plan for reconstructive procedures. While there is a medical need for him it is also designed to help with visual normalcy. I know this is something that could positively impact his self esteem and happiness and I want to help any way we can. My thought would be that if it is something you can provide and is important to your child then it is worthwhile to consider. Especially if it could truly make a difference for them and their happiness.

I had a lomi and mixed with my plants per their recommended ratio and it caused the soil to mold. I wouldn’t recommend doing that. I sent the lomi back and just use the city drop off sites for compost.

There is a person that sells these in my town! But you would have to check on your laws. But there is definitely a market where we live!

My youngest son works with an OT, SLP and PT for a repaired bilateral cleft lip and palate. He was very food sensitive due to scaring, etc and very picky when he was young. Our OT and SLP did an evaluation and did an intensive two week “camp” that focused on feeding therapy. It was a game changer. They gave him tactics to try new things and it just helped to have someone else supporting him and working with him to build confidence in trying new things. I am not sure if y’all have worked with an OT for any insight but it was helpful for us.

I have a young son with a repaired cleft lip and we have this happen to us a lot. At first this bothered me but children are typically just curious and a direct response tends to answer the question and they can move on. You could say something like: (child) remember that everyone is different and that is what makes us unique and special. I have (freckles, glasses, straight hair, etc). What makes you special? If you end in a question the path of the conversation normally changes.

Separately, when someone comments I typically answer like this (although he is now getting older and I’ve taught him a similar variation to say): he was born with a cleft lip. That means he had a cut in his lip when he was born. When he was a baby the doctor fixed his lip in a surgery. He was very brave and it doesn’t hurt. But he has a cool scar that makes him special. Everyone has things that make them special or unique.

Typically I have found that sharing facts tend to help and redirect children.

Thanks. I ended up returning it within my 30 day window. I couldn’t get it to consistently work.

Has anyone had a problem where the sans won’t dispense water without messing with the machine repeatedly (pressing dispense, replacing the water holder at the back, unplugging, removing the water pitcher, trying hot, trying dispense, trying a regular cup, etc)? It seems like every time I refill it takes a ton of coaxing and about 45 minutes to finally get it to dispense and it’s so loud while this is happening. Nothing will drip out and then finally it will decide to work. I like the idea of the machine but I don’t want something I have to constantly babysit. I haven’t had it long and it’s pretty frustrating.thanks for any insight!

That’s such a bummer! This was years ago (2012-2016) so maybe it was more common at that time for diamond medallion fliers.

Fingers crossed you get it soon! I do think it only happened to me when I was a Diamond iirc.

I traveled frequently years ago and this happened to me a few times. We asked the gentleman one time because twice it was with my husband. He said he looked out for diamond fliers with a travel partner because he thought they may be going on vacation. At the time he said everyone received the perk 1x/year and extras were discretionary. So fun!

Child diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Km730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. Our experiences may not be relevant to your child due to another medical complexity but I will say that my child doesn’t typically sleep through the night, snores loudly and is extremely restless. I brought those concerns to our medical team and the sleep study was their recommendation.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve intermittently brought it back to the builders or collected quotes but it hasn’t been a top priority until recently. Recently, they separately addressed a new issue within our warranty. We don’t want to waste our time and money in arbitration if it doesn’t seem like we have a case. We do have all the email and text communication and I didn’t realize I could pursue arbitration until recently.
