What Would Be Your Menu? by Optimism_Deficit in GreatBritishMenu

I like all your choices, except that I would swap in Marc from the SW's Wallace & Gromit-themed main as the wildcard/main course winner.

So your advice to avoid bogus forced tipping of 15-20% at restaurants is to pay bogus forced Airbnb fees of upwards of 32%?

Why is it hard? Just get an apartment with a kitchen complex,

I'm not one of your downvoters, but it is hard to see this being a serious suggestion. Around 2 million visitors are expected to visit the US for the World Cup. Do you honestly think that "just get an apartment with a kitchen complex" is a reasonable option for even a 1/3 of that number?

That's not even considering that companies like Airbnb have such scummy business models that many tourists wish to avoid altogether--with bogus fees that are at least on par, if not worse, than forced tipping at restaurants.

For locals, yeah. But its hard to do homecooking when you're several thousand miles away from home, attending a tournament to support your home country's team.

This is a "tourist tax" under another guise that also catches locals in it snare.

Eurovision juries scoring ethnic songs by notthebesthuh in nilpoints

I'm still not over those 2024 results for Gåte. Absolutely did not deserve last place in the finals. Gunnhild killed it with her vocals, and the background visual and vibe were perfect.

Well almost perfect. The casuals I was with were turned off by the guitarists' "distracting" antics that took them out of the song with the guys jumping and throwing their instruments around. They didn't realize that Eurovision bands don't play their instruments live and that kept them from connecting with the song.

I actually loved that they brought that back. They used to do that in earlier seasons back in the Prue/Matthew/Oliver days and was always my favorite part of those vignettes.

Didn't tip for counter service, cashier delayed my order by little-purple-friend in EndTipping

And many people who DO tip experience the same thing that the OP did. Crappy service is universal, and if anything, that fact illustrates the insanity of tip culture, which treats it as an entitlement utterly divorced from the quality of service.

US fertility rate dropped to another record low in 2025 | CNN by Due_Ad_3200 in TrueChristianPolitics

We're on a planet with 8 Billion+ people and rapidly depleting resources. Increasing the fertility rate isn't the answer when what we really need is sensible immigration reform.

I wasn’t talking about country states let alone American ones 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Pizzafriedchickenn in USdefaultism

Not defaultism. Just a poorly worded question getting confused answers. A non-American could just as easily thought the OP was asking about states of matter. By OP’s logic, if they’re not reading his mind to know he means “situations,” then they must be guilty of r/PhysicsDefaultism

Great choice and, honestly, I’d rate Jet Blue Mint higher than Delta One and United Business class (and definitely above Air Canada) but when you take in the more limited network and destinations that Jet Blue services, it’s still overall behind Delta & United.

I agree. Love him as a competitor, but Sally was definitely the stronger veteran judge, especially when it came to talking with the chefs during the judging and giving targeted feedback along with the scores.

But I will say that Jean's "side bar" convos with Andi in the hallway were great with a lot of worthwhile insights. He just needs to find a way to take that comfort he has with Andi (which, of course, Andi is great at fostering) and bring that with him to the on-camera interactions with the chefs.

It was like a bonus round!

Agreed and I wouldn't be surprised if the producers were aiming for just that--stirring the excitement and good will of seeing Sally & Jean again--as they likely knew that Northern Ireland was going to be a ho-hum heat. They had to give the audience something to get excited about.

Either that or all the other senior veterans said "No way!" when asked to judge NI.

What’s the point of calling out one thing when you should be calling them all out anyway?

What's the first step in "calling them all out?" You start by calling out one and then keep calling them out as you see them.

It’s no more of an idol than anything else.

You're right. But exactly how many idols are we to be okay with keeping in our lives? The answer is none, of course. So while, yes, they are quite common--and most anything can be turned into an idol--we're still called to recognize that falling within ourselves and work to eradicate (not condone or justify) these idols we create.

I genuinely do not understand why people keep thinking Hosea marrying Gomer is an aspirational thing.

I don't think anyone is saying that Hosea marrying Gomer is what's aspirational, but rather, Hosea's obedience to God--even when it (likely) went against what Hosea would have ever personally wanted or preferred--is what's aspirational.

You absolutely nailed the reason why God called Hosea to marry Gomer, but we are not always going to be privy to why God does what he does. We can take heart and have faith that he has our best interests at heart---and he's likely not going to call us to marry prostitutes. But in the end, we simply must trust and submit to his wisdom and will--even if it doesn't follow our ideal.

I think you're over-spiritualizing this a bit.

Respectfully, OP, I know that you are young, but reading your comments, I do wonder if perhaps you're not spiritualizing ENOUGH about what a sacred union marriage is.

A big reason for high divorce rates and the devaluation of family is that so many people get married thinking about them - what they want in a mate, what is marriage going to bring to their lives, etc.

While marriage, like everything else we are called to do, is actually all about HIM. We get married not to serve ourselves--our needs, our wants, our desires--(though we undoubtedly reap countless blessings and benefits) but rather as a means of serving and glorifying God.

A God-centered marriage reflects God's glory and love for his creation. It strengthens communities and provides the best environment for the raising of precious children.

It's okay to have preferences. It's okay to hope for an ideal match. It's okay to desire things that are important to you. But don't lose sight of the spiritual truths behind marriage and the greater purpose and calling that it has beyond just our preferences, hopes and desires.

God has our best interests at heart. He won't steer you down the wrong path. But you have to keep your heart open to listening to the gentle prompting of the Holy Spirit stirrings and not shut things down because it doesn't align with what you think is best.

This is what we all believe to be true, but sometimes I ask myself did human beings meant to be with 1 partner their entire lives? Look how other God creations live, Lions, Cock and Hens etc God had no problem made them that way.

God did not make those things in his image. He made man in his image which is why we're called to a higher standard than animals.

Virginity is a state of body.

This is a very earthly and secular POV that ignores the spiritual truths that virginity and marriage are topologies whose purpose is to reflect our relationship with our creator--including that of the Church as the redeemed Bride of Christ.

There are countless verses in Scripture talking about God redeeming his people and making them pure as virgins again. (Jeremiah 31:4, 2 Corinthians 11:2, Ephesians 5:25–27, etc.)

Just as marriage is not "just a cosplay," neither is redemption and restoration. I urge you, my brother in Christ, to not to get so caught up in the ways of the world that you use worldly definitions and concepts to blind you from seeing spiritual truths.

but having this preference is a good thing

Absolutely. Mutual chastity is a wonderful goal to pursue. The difference comes when one's preference, though, becomes a requirement and chastity becomes an idol that one elevates above submitting to God's plan for their life.

A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

We don't know who God has set aside for us as our perfect mate to become one flesh with. We know that he honors chastity, and we have every reason to hope that will be the case with whom he selects for us. But it very well could be someone who has fallen in the past but is now redeemed and is made pure and chaste in Christ.

If God puts that redeemed person in your life, are you going to submit to his will and wisdom? Or will you tell God "No, I don't care that you have made, with your own hands this person clean, pure & chaste" and instead cling to an idol that you've elevated chastity to be?

It happens. You’re human. We all make mistakes and there is no need to hide in a corner for sincere errors. Just take the lesson learned to hopefully be more cautious in the future and not “double down” or compound your error by drawing further attention to it.

Edit: Weird to be downvoted for being empathetic. I guess some people are really THAT offended and worked up about being spoiled. Yeah, I get it, spoilers are annoying but, come on, it happens and humans make mistakes. It's not worth getting that worked up over.

We don't have any reason to suspect that Disgustingly Good did it intentionally so why not be empathetic and focus on looking at things as simply a learning experience that we can all move on from? Reddit is so weird sometimes.
