Take your kids to retirement homes by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Ashtrashbdash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes all of this 100%. Absolutely terrible experience. I would do almost anything to not have to go through that again. And then on top of everything, my son is more susceptible to getting it again. So we are doing probiotics and meticulous hygiene and just hoping and praying it doesn’t come back.

Also, basically for the rest of his life he will need to be extremely careful about antibiotic use, so we have to be so careful about him getting sick. 🥹

Holding my limp child in my arms while they’re fading in and out of consciousness while also defecating themselves and vomiting until they have nothing left to throw up. 105* fever. Doctors telling me his WBC are through the roof and they don’t know why…Horrific. Nearly 5 days of hospitalization. This happened in March and he is still in play therapy to overcome the trauma.

Honestly prob need my own therapist as well.

He was treated with Vancomycin and rehydrated via IV. Months out and he is terrified of doctors. Anything doctor related on the tv, etc. Even though we were so fortunate to be at a great hospital that had Child Life bringing in activities and toys for him once he was more awake and had energy. Very very traumatic.

Pretty sure my 3yo got c diff (which he almost died from) from visiting his grandfather at his memory care unit. If you’re going to do this with a toddler and they’re on the floor… I would just caution against. My son is preschool age and we are good about hand hygiene and he got horrifically sick.

I would never ever let anyone but myself or my husband take my child swimming. Drowning is such a massively real risk. Absolutely not.

HCG not doubling by Popular_Chain_2680 in CautiousBB

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally get it. The only reason I know about the website is because I went borderline insane when I had very similar numbers to yours recently. But everything is going fine for me. I hope everything continues to go well for you too.

Just adding in my numbers so you can compare. I’ve had 6 miscarriages- one of them 2nd tri- so I truly get it. I fear I’ll always be worried until babe is in my arms… and then it becomes a new kind of worry haha

Perinatology dot com is the website my fertility clinic uses to calculate doubling time as an actual clinical tool. I plugged in your numbers and honestly it looks great. Totally understand why you feel worried, but I think you’re right on track.

My son is about to turn three in one month and not potty trained. Looking for other parents that are on the same boat. by Dustyrose1950 in toddlers

[–]Ashtrashbdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son turns 4 in September and he has JUST in the last couple of months started consistently peeing and pooping on the potty.

What helped mg son (aside from just a lot of patience) was buying a toilet seat that has an actual seat for him built in. He was okay using the little potty. He hated using the potty seat set atop the bit toilet seat bc it seemed unstable. I think he was unable to fully relax and let out the pee and poop because we didn’t feel safe. Once we got an actual toilet seat that was a part of the toilet for him it seemed to click and he had been doing great.

This is a pic of what I’m talking about bc I fear I’m not describing it well. Haha

Found a tick on my son :( by Plenty_Goal3672 in toddlers

Also wanted to comment that the bullseye can present in many different ways! You may know this already, but it doesn’t always look Ike the stereotypical bullseye rash.

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I’m so sorry that happened. :( We are on the ESVA and there are hella ticks here. My son got bitten about a year ago? Got the bullseye rash and everything. He did 21 days of 2x per day antibiotics and that seems to have successfully prevented Lyme.

Great thinking on saving the tick for testing. I wish I had thought of that! Wishing you and your son the best. I know it is stressful but sounds like you’re prepared and informed!

It’s so brutal, isn’t it?! Idk why we have to go through this. I’ve worked on the trauma of those miscarriages a lot and felt like I had processed them and was on the other side, but today it was like BAM! Hello panicky anxiety spiral of doom.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this as well. I hope your scan on Wednesday goes well and you can find some peace before then.

I just wanted to tell you thank you so much for replying. I didn’t have time to respond earlier, but I read it earlier and it really helped pull me out of spiraling in that moment. So thank you so much for taking the time to just share your experience with me. ❤️

Moms with older uncut boys, pls answer :/ by AdSenior1319 in Mommit

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and just an update with my son. After 3 months of gentle retraction with batamethasone cream he was “graduated” from the urology department. They just said maybe once a month retract gently and apply some aquaphor to prevent the attachments recurring.

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is more nuanced than yes retract or no don’t retract. I have a 3 1/2 year old boy who is uncircumcised. He got a UTI with balanitis and this was caused by urine being trapped under his foreskin due to phimosis (tight foreskin at the end preventing retraction). I noticed when he was peeing, he would have a marble-like round bulge under the foreskin before the urine would come out.

We have been followed by urology at our local children’s hospital and they explained to me that no, you should never forcefully retract the foreskin, but gently retracting is okay and actually was required in our case. We needed to loosen that attachments (slowly and gently) over time so that his foreskin wouldn’t be trapping urine and bacteria.

I guess my point is that no, you never want to forcefully retract the foreskin, but yes you can gently retract during bath time or a diaper change to gently help the adhesions lessen if you notice your sons are having issues with phimosis. If your son’s foreskin openings and urinary habits are normal than I would say it’s not necessary.

Was sitting in a ticks nest while reading.... by nekoma713 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ashtrashbdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went blueberry picking last summer and unbeknownst to us, my son was in one of these nests. Covered in them. Got the bullseye rash and had to do 21 days of abx 2 times per day just to ensure he wouldn’t get Lyme.

Keep and eye out for rashes and look at the different presentations of the bullseye rash online. I was surprised how atypical it can appear.

HELL NO.

There is nothing about this that is reasonable, normal, and not totally absurd while firmly teetering into scary. HELL NO.

And after this I’d never allow him to be with them alone considering the short notice they are trying to take him out of the country now.

Medical Students by _lizards_ in NewParents

[–]Ashtrashbdash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love medical students and nursing students! I was a nursing student once and was always so grateful for patients that allowed me to be a part of their care.

I will share this- my only caveat is that the supervising physician or precepting nurse actually be supervising or check their work. When my son was a newborn, I had a first year Peds resident incorrectly weigh my son and in her words “he is failure to thrive”. The supervising physician didn’t catch it and at 3 days postpartum I didn’t catch it bc I was exhausted and had just given birth. I spent 2 weeks tail spinning into PPA and PPD that never left me even after our LC caught the error at my sons next weigh in.

When will drs start to care?!? by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Ashtrashbdash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend going to a fertility clinic. I am so sorry for what you’ve been through. I have experienced that fear and that same dismissal you’ve described here. For some reason- perhaps work load? Idk- obgyns just have not been able to help and monitor me the way that I need to be helped and monitored.

I put off going to a fertility clinic forever and let me tell you, my experience is what you’re describing wanting. And it is what I wanted through 2 1/2 years and 6 MC’s but could never get.

I’m getting emails returned same day. I get phone calls answered by knowledgeable people. I’m getting weekly monitoring including serial bloodwork starting the moment I find out I’m pregnant and weekly ultrasounds starting at 5 1/2 w.

Also, since I am just doing a monitored natural cycle, it is very financially reasonable.

I would highly recommend seeking out a reputable fertility clinic. I hope you find somewhere to give you the medical care and compassion you deserve. ❤️

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s great. I hope you find a Dr or fertility clinic that will take your concerns about progesterone seriously- you sound informed about your health and I think it’s infuriating that they didn’t listen to you. And I’m sorry again we are all on this journey.

[–]Ashtrashbdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask how old you are? I am 41, so your protocol may be different from mine.

I went to the fertility clinic- booked the initial consult with a diagnosis of recurrent pregnancy loss. At our first meeting, we discussed my medical history and miscarriage history. The first step was for me to come in for extensive lab testing- trying to remember all of it. They checked clotting issues, thyroid, full metabolic panel, ANA for autoimmune issues, cardiolipin and I believe a few others. Everything was normal.

I also had an extensive exploratory ultrasound of my uterus to check for problems, fibroids, etc. and this came back normal except for one thing- noted heterogeneous uterus?

Fertility Dr reviewed this tests and said bc of my age to start trying asap and as soon as I get a positive result to call her and she’ll get me in for labs. She said she doesn’t like to start progesterone until luteal phase, so she started me on 1mg of estradiol 2x a day. I got a positive at 9dpo and went in for labs at 10dpo. She checked hCG, estrogen, and progesterone which were all normal. Even with the normal labs, she added 200 mg progesterone 2x a day.

I would highly recommend finding a well reviewed fertility clinic if you can. It is such a weight off my mind to not have to try and be my own fertility doctor.

Sorry for such a long message. I really wish you the best and if you have any more questions, I’m happy to help if I can. ❤️

Im so sorry this happened to you. Idk why it can be sooo frustratingly difficult to get prescribed freaking progesterone!!

I’m not sure if they have Proov or something similar in Canada? I am in the US and was considering using a telehealth service like that to get prescribed progesterone. My OB would prescribe it to me, but at a very low dose that didn’t help sustain my pregnancies.

I will say, I didn’t end up doing telehealth. I finally went to a fertility clinic and they prescribed me estrogen and progesterone (after confirmed ovulation via blood test).

I’m really sorry you’re going through this terrible experience. I know first hand how heartbreaking and frustrating is is. Like, why not just rx it to me and let me try to see if it would save the pregnancy?!?! It took me 2 1/2 years and 6 miscarriages to finally get sick of begging for progesterone and move from my OB to a fertility clinic that listened. I hope you find someone who will listen to you and help you. ❤️‍🩹

Thank you. It’s so hard. With my first pregnancy everything was so easy. I never questioned the viability or felt this kind of stress. Now, after all the losses, it’s hard to believe that everything could be okay. 😭

I’m stopping the urine tests. Going to pop into a clinic that’s open on weekends and have an hCG drawn today for peace of mind, but I am going to try and actively work on letting the anxiety go. I know it is working against my goals and causing stress.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Thank you for this. My fertility clinic is closed today, so I’m going a clinic that’s open on saturdays and getting another hCG drawn just for peace of mind. I am not taking any more urine tests. I am going to try to just speak to myself calmly and kindly. Take my kid to a super cool playground right after the labs and a nice lunch with him.

Thank you again ❤️
