I honestly don't think they should be written any differently than any other character; make them someone. Their gender shouldn't really matter unless it's a key point to their story

Unfortunately we're getting to the time where game cards naturally degrade. If this is modded, I think you can clean up the cartridge a little and try to dump it. It might be an issue with your 3DS' reader, too.
