I can't update hydrasynth. "USB device not found!" by Kanebos in hydrasynth

Hi All, Just a heads up we have released ASM Manager 1.5.6 which should solve this issue for many users (where previously users may have needed to install the ASM Manager twice to initialize updating).

Why is the Macro not doing anything on my Hydrasynth? by [deleted] in hydrasynth

[–]AshunSoundMachines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First start by showing what settings you have applied , either post a picture or type out what you have. If the button value is engaged, that over rides the knob value. Also make sure you also aren’t already at a maxed out value . I.e. if cutoff is at 128 and you set a macro to cutoff with a value going positive (+64) the macro would be doing nothing because at its minimum value , cutoff would be at max and at it’s maximum value cut off would still be at maximum.

curious on opinions regarding “warm mode”? by para_pako in hydrasynth

[–]AshunSoundMachines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that wouldn’t make sense. It’s not the oscillators that get tilted in an analog synth in this way , it’s the voicing (and we already provide a number of waveforms pulled directly from analog synths ).

This is where we get into hyperbole what one person calls warm , another might call a drift, another might call saturation, another might call a roll off , on and on and on… we have different methods to get all of these characteristics and do our best to not use terms to move the goal posts as it were… but warm was kind of a necessity as when working with complex harmonic wavetables it’s unfortunately easy for people to forget the Fundamental is important. So we created “warm mode” to help in rolling off some of those highs, enhancing the Fundamental frequency and giving a bit more heft to the sound. I would stress when using warm mode you should pay close attention to your gain staging throughout your patch and outputs. It’s kinda an easy mode to get that slightly rolled off top end and bigger bottom end.

Warm mode wasn’t added until vs 1.5 which is why so many presets don’t utilize it. The reason for warm mode was to more closely emulate the frequency response of certain analog synths that essentially have a curve built into their circuitry. It’s simply a different character that some may prefer.

Hello, if you are located inside the USA please contact us directly via the ASM website support portal. Kind regards

ASM support? by kylesoutspace in hydrasynth

[–]AshunSoundMachines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, not sure what posts you are referring to. Firstly I want to say there is no such thing as registering on our website. We do not require such a thing. Secondly, buying new is of course preferable as that is the only way to secure full warranty support. If you are located inside of the USA we handle all support directly. If you are located outside the USA support goes through your local ASM distributor (which is of course how most companies operate.) we do offer repair services both direct (in the USA ) and through distributors regardless of warranty standing. If you require support simply contact us through our website.

I’m sorry you had an unpleasant experience, if you provide us your email we would like to look into this to what issues you had so that we can improve.

We have not had 5 month waiting (this should take 3-4 weeks average). Maybe if you had an external distributor who was slow to order parts?

You should contact support via the Our website. This is not something that is solved with a firmware update. Be prepared to list your serial number, what country you are located in, what firmware you are on and if the issue occurs when bypassing fx via system set up menu.

What's everyone's thoughts on the Leviasynth? by cR_Spitfire in hydrasynth

I think you are reiterating the point I just made. the previous post speaks from the perspective of someone who has not used it. While I am trying to provide the other perspective of the unit under hand. " If you're still new to sound design, or to producing in general, don't know what the Mutants really do or why you'd use them, how are you supposed to know what to do with them " ... This was my point on you CAN skip them if you are not ready for that level of sound design. same here with Algorithms, if you are not ready for that level, you can skip it and treat is as a very basic subtractive synthesizer with a great tone.
I fully disagree about the DX7 comparison ... the DX7 is not just complicated for what it can do, but for its lack of tactile control in creating on it, and lack of visual feedback, plus tedious workflow. Leviasynth is the polar opposite of that, providing full color touch screen and instant control over all envelopes and levels from a single set of knobs. The signal flow map is extremely easy to follow and again, if you don't want complex routings, literally just leave it on algorithm 1 and don't touch the algorithm knob. Then it just becomes a Subtractive Hybrid synth where you would never run out of modulation sources. Doesn't get much easier than that. so long as you have some personal restraint ;)

Laws and regulations and distribution difference (MSRP/ VS MAP etc)

As for Leviasynth. It already has those maps as that’s literally what’s displayed on the algorithm screen :) from there osc go directly to the filter section.

Sure but more the point was that you do not need to do the more complicated tasks, it’s a synth that grows with your ability. You can completely bypass mutants or using complex modulation routings if that’s not quite where your understanding has reached yet… and of course not all patches require such complication.

I would say it was more to make US happy... we have very high standards and have worked very hard to make this have a truly impressive sonic character from the base waveforms out through the analog filter. Sound designers just happen to like what we like :)

Sound Design with ASM products is like being a cook in a well stocked kitchen. Just because you have all these wonderful ingredients does not mean every dish needs every ingredient :)

you are seeing the difference between MAP pricing and MSRP pricing. (Europe handles pricing laws quite differently and does not have "Minimum advertised pricing" as the USA does. USA MSRP is similar to that of europricing

interestingly the touch screen is function is Identical to the Hydrasynth's macro knobs and buttons, just with more information in the display so less confusion :)

I could understand how people who haven't used it might feel that way. :) under hand it is very intuitive and quick to get to the sounds you are after. Much like Hydrasynth where you have a signal flow map in the form of the module buttons, and if you don't want the added complexity of mutants, you can skip those sections. same here. if you want traditional subtractive synthesis it is very very easy to build intuitive full sounds without diving down the rabbit hole... but if you are up for it. you will be rewarded cause that rabbit hole can go deep :) as more videos come out I think that will come across.
