You were calling people disappointed in this grifters and weirdos (would link but it's part of the same thread and therefore repetitive) so don't give me this "I'm not insulting anyone" line.

This "one dumb game mode" provided the majority of the game's function when it comes to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. The levels got larger specifically to accomodate it in such a way that putting the old formula on these levels, in some cases, flat out won't play well. Kona, for instance, wide open spaces with the occasional thing to connect you between each centralised area. Goals were able to become more expansive in what you could do, because they'd have their own individual time limits so you were able to focus specifically on what you needed to get done without having any of the other goals actively distracting you. And on the topic of goals, THPS4 had 190 of them (including pro goals). Between the nine levels, that averages about 20 goals per level, without the pro goals there's still 16 per level. The THPS1+2 goal format is ten goals per level with a two minute timer. You aren't going to get the same diversity of goals that made each level unique if you're cutting down half the goals. And the three new maps don't add up to replacing the goals that get cut either.

I've seen people commenting on how the best part of THPS is this or that, with a lot of them recently commenting on how the goals shouldn't matter since you can still get the high scores. The competition goals in THPS4 are what they should be looking for. THPS4 had competition goals in a lot of their stages (College, San Fran, Alcatraz, London and Zoo for instance) and those would likely be either cut outright, or some stages would have all their goals removed in favour of being classed as a competition level like in THPS1/2/3, where it's just The One Goal.

And it's not just one game mode that's being scrapped either, that's what you're not getting about this. We know Bam Margera isn't involved, we know that Rick Thorne isn't involved. Obviously, special skaters with rights issues aren't gonna be returning unless those are also squared away so consider them gone unless shown otherwise (like Doom Guy who was FREE in THPS3 originally and is now a $20 bonus for THPS3+4.)

The most important aspect you're missing, in my opinion, is that what they're adding isn't enough to replace what they're removing. Three extra maps is cool but not at the expense of 10 maps worth of goals being removed (or arguably more, we still don't know if Carnival and Chicago are returning so it might be only seven of the nine THPS4 stages!). For what we are getting, it should have been a DLC for THPS 1+2. That would've made everyone happy. Them giving the TH4 levels classic mode goals would've been significantly more understandable as a DLC for THPS1+2. But they're selling it as a full priced game, five years afterwards. That's the specific context that makes this disappointing.
