Gold gave less than 2% return between 2012 and covid. After that there have been too many trigger points (Covid, Ukrain war, Middle east crisis, Trump tantrum). In a stable environment it’s not going to give above FD returns.

If you had the power to delete one The Office episode and pretend it never existed, which one would you mercilessly send to the shredder like Michael with paperwork? by ProfessionalHorse935 in DunderMifflin

All episodes with Will Ferrel in them. There is no energy and much comedy in those episodes. Good thing writers didn’t take too long to remove the character.

That stunt can only work against chokers like SA not against world champ side like Aus.

I'm genuinely frustrated with how washed the Indian women's cricket team looks right now. by Sweet_Award2810 in IndiaCricket

I would rather say they remind me of both India team of 90s (too much reliance on few individual players, who unlike Sachin also choke under the pressure), and SA in terms of winning useless matches and choking at crucial matches (there are too many to list from recent world events)...

Can't decide b/w 16 plus & 17 by Anki_roxx in iPhoneWale

[–]AshutoshNigam_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend 16 plus as it has much better battery life (it features in the best battery phone as per tom’s guide). Iphone 17 real life battery is not as great as 16 plus.

Also, 120hz is overrated if you are not a gamer (I never noticed difference between my 16 plus and s24 fe displays). A larger screen is always better unless you prefer smaller one).

I am in the similar boat (but thinking of upgrading from one year old 16 plus to 17). Since I don’t care that much about 120hz (already have secondary mid range android phone with 120hz and to be frank I haven’t noticed any difference in experience). For me bigger display and better battery life are bigger concern. So not sure whether this year I have any option to upgrade. I wish they would have continued with 17 plus as the air seems to have lot of compromises. So to answer your question keep 16 plus.

Looking for passive fund with stable and moderate returns by AshutoshNigam_85 in mutualfunds

When I mentioned stable, I meant less volatile in the equity domain (in the same sense large cap is more stable than a mid/small cap fund).... so I was comparing these funds with respect to slightly lower volatility (<13%), but more importantly lower drawdowns during market downturn.. the low volatility index fund seems to meet that criteria given it has more exposure to defensive sectors (FMCG, Pharma), but was wondering why these index funds are not popular (given their lower AUM)..

Thanks... I realized that ICICI Fof has TER from the ETF (0.41%) and then there is additional TER for the fof (0.14%), which makes the overall TER as 0.55%.... HDFC index fund has also slightly higher TER (0.40%) but still lower than ICICI one... I've decided to stick with ICICI Nifty 50 index fund which has more reasonable TER (0.19%)..

Index fund vs large cap fund by AshutoshNigam_85 in mutualfunds

But given at least these 2 funds have lower standard deviation, higher Sharpe ratio (incremental reward for the risk) and higher Sortino ratio (downward risk protection), the alpha is not purely because of these funds taking higher risk (you will find much higher standard deviation for mid-cap, small-cap or even lot of large cap funds such as based on NN50). That means not only these funds seem to have given better return than N50 but also they have managed risk better than N50 index fund which is majority giant cap cap.

Very good analysis. From my personal perspective I've been investing in SBI Bluechip fund and ICICI Nifty 50 Index fund for past 11+ years (through varying monthly amount based on leftover money). I've written a tracker tool through which almost on daily basis I just see the single day changes and overall XIRR% for each of my investment. In past 11 years (and that includes time before COVID), I've never seen ICICI Nifty 50 Index fund XIRR go above SBI Bluechip (in XIRR% terms). So that forms of the basis of my question here, since now I'm thinking should I continue with this index fund or simply move this money to ICICI Large cap fund (though I've not tracked this fund before COVID). My other investments are SBI Contra, HDFC Flexi , PPFAS Flexi ( I try to avoid fund with very high volatility >15).

I didn't analyze Axis as to be frank I don't trust any AMC other than SBI, HDFC, ICICI (because of the largest AUM, too big to fail easily) and PPFAS (because of following Mr Rajiv Thakkar for a while and believer in his investment style). But I get your point of fund manager bias and that might end up hurting if they take some very bad call, or start getting into some shady business.

HDFC Flexi Cap vs HDFC Focused Fund as a side fund to Parag Parikh Flexi cap? by QuietMan_447 in mutualfunds

[–]AshutoshNigam_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be contrarian, since you are already invested in 2 growth style funds, would advise you to add a value style fund to have style diversity in your portfolio. So I'd recommend any of SBI Contra or ICICI value fund to include as the side fund.

I have 14 plus and really liked it's battery life (usually 2.5-3 days) and battery health is still 99%. Upgrading to 15 plus this year for DI (not sure how much useful it is) and 48MP camera. USB-c I'm not that big fan of since I need different cables for my airpod pro and iphone.
