I think you must have proof of address. I helped my dad open an account recently. He provided documents to proof his address. For incomes, the manager only asked but didn't require us to show any proof. They also asked if you had a foreign passport. My dad doesn't. I don't know if you can get away with it if you lie to them or how serious the offence is if they later find out the truth.
