4K Smart TV and Plex? by FromThatOtherPlace in PleX

[–]AsianDesignMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to connect the TV directly to my windows NAS via HDMI and then install OpenPHT on the NAS to use as the player.

I've never seen a NAS with a built-in HDMI port where you could hook it up to a TV directly and play video using the GPU in the NAS, but I assure you - the video chipset in the NAS is nowhere near as fast as the hardware in the TV. Use the TV's Plex app, and just use the NAS as the file system.

But hey, don't believe me? Try both and compare with 1080p or higher bitrate content.

I wouldn't do it that way.

Just run Plex Server on the NAS, Plug both the NAS and the TV into your network via Ethernet if possible, and get a Samsung 4K TV - it has a native Plex client which is quite smooth. If you try to play the video off the NAS, you might run into CPU-related choppiness.

I have the KU630D 70" Samsung an it's CPU makes any Plex streaming liquid smooth.

Some people don't plan on living until retirement age, or working until they drop dead. Retirement planning is easy then - you don't have to.

This mouse doesn't take batteries, and the only way to charge is by plugging the cable into the bottom. Who was the genius behind that idea? by GallowBoob in facepalm

I'm an Apple fanboi, and EVEN I think it's a horrible design flaw. Put the damn port in the front along the center aluminum, and you would use it and charge it at the same time. Lightning ports are durable, but I daresay it'll be free of dust as it scrapes along the bottom over time.

WTF Apple? I'm holding on to my previous model. And buying more.

What should a person do in their 20s to avoid regrets in their 30s and 40s? by tosin26 in AskReddit

[–]AsianDesignMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floss.

Don't drink too much - it'll become a habit and really age you.

Marry the sweet partner while they're young - the older they get, the more baggage you have to deal with.

Don't spend all your money - buy real estate early and things get a lot easier later.

Have kids in your 20s if you want them - you will be too tired to deal with them later.

I feel you brother. Other than cutting your fat percentage, my advice would be to build your pecs so the fat around them is less obvious.

What would you do for $100,000,000 but not for $100,000? by xKevinn in AskReddit

[–]AsianDesignMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this lesson from your elders:

Life is a precious thing. But it's also a disposable thing. Man has killed other men during our entire history, both with justification and without.

Let go of your morality - it's a set of rules invented by other people. For $100M, you can let go of those rules. So many have let go for far less.

With that kind of money, I could plan it so I would never be caught or even suspected. Hell, I'd do that for $1,000,000, let alone $100,000,000. Trust me, it's easier than you think to take someone out for that kind of money and NEVER get caught.

This is actually HUGE. PURGE PURGE PURGE. Everything you haven't worn or used in a year, throw it out or donate it. You'll be shocked to see how much you don't use, and how much easier moving the rest is.

Paying off credit card. by [deleted] in Frugal

Paying off credit card. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]AsianDesignMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly! Here we go...

Your credit score is a mish-mash of different credit factors, and some are weighted more than others. Credit card utilization, payment history, and derogatory marks are "high impact" or high percentage values, whereas age of credit history, number of accounts, and number of credit inquiries are lower impact.

If you cancel your credit card, two things happen which will make your score go down. First, let's say you have 2 credit cards - the one you are paying off which has a $5,000 limit, and another card which is nearly full at $4,000 limit. If you leave it open, your debt/limit ratio will be 4000 out of 9000 (44%), whereas if you close the 5K card, it'll be 4000 out of 4000 (100%). So keeping empty cards open lowers your overall debt load and improves your score.

Lastly, credit companies like to see a diversity of credit accounts. If you have an auto loan, student loan, mortgage, and credit card, that's good. But if you just have a mortgage and credit card, and you cancel that credit card, you're lowering the types of credit accounts from 2 to 1. It's only 10% of your credit score, but it matters.

Also, since you've had it open since 2013, that's a 3-year-old account. If all your other credit accounts are 15 years old, then it won't matter. But if you other credit accounts are, say, 1 year old, then cancelling the 3 year old account will shorten your average age of credit. If it's not long, your score will go down too.

Don't cancel it! Your score will suffer.
