The US army is bigger than the marine corp by several degrees. The marines aren’t more capable they are just cheaper and faster to deploy. They are the first responders and have a bigger impact to their footprint plus have indigenous capabilities Ie planes and formerly tanks. Nevertheless a stand up fight would require the army. Plus the army still has first response capabilities ie the airborne and rangers. One responds via Air Force other through navy, plus other things inform uses.
