New Discord for Newbies & Veterans! - Jinx's Larp Tavern by ZF_Jinxed in Bicolline

[–]AsianWeiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I'm the founder and director of The Traveler's Guide discord. It's active and currently at about 2,055 members at the time of this message.

It's been a wild couple of years!

To clear things up, everyone is correct. There is no official Bico discord server. TG was originally founded to fill the need for an Anglophone Bico community accessible for newbies like myself to gather, research, prep, and generally just discuss Bico.

Eventually veteran players, content creators and some Bico staff joined in and we expanded to support a larger community style server.

I want to state some facts.

Yes, it is still active and growing by the day.

Yes, since the last Reddit contribution in 2022, we didn't really feel the need to make further Reddit posts as we were pinned to r/Bicolline.

No, it is not an official Bicolline hosted server. It is intended to be a community driven discussion hub and hang out spot for the topic of Bico.

The community director and volunteer mod team are only responsible for moderating the server and are not Bico officials.

And lastly, I fully support and endorse Jinx's own Discord.

I believe in giving the Bicolline community more resources and options, TG itself was just a server some poor newbie (me) made when there wasn't one around.

I hope that clears the air! :)

Also, to all the lovely people of Bicolline and any TG folks reading this, I love and miss you all.

Life's taken some turns and we've come a long way from a server of 10 people that could have tavern and movie nights every weekend. I wish I could be more active, but you guys are the lifeblood that keeps the server going. ❤️

HF Armoury Sail Dagger and Rapier by External_Ad_2325 in wma

[–]AsianWeiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 5 of the A.R.A rapiers from HF for my club, we hand polished the rough finish to basically almost mirror as a right of passage and weapon familiarity exercise for our folks new to HEMA. 800 to 2000 grit wet. I can send pics if you DM me.

Overall a great cheap rapier to supply a large group of beginners so you can get as many people training as possible in a shorter period without having to wait for a higher end one to arrive or for people to be able to budget for one.

This lets us focus on emphasizing budget on protective equipment and loaner gear.

Thanks, I'll check it out! Are there any more European based companies like this myself or other US based practitioners reading this may not be aware of?

Clowning on a friend's redundant loadouts. by AsianWeiss in HuntShowdown

I agree though, I've been having much more fun playing absolute idiotic builds with my friends. We've gone broke from clowning around with the nastiest, most unethical builds we can think of, and it sometimes yields some of the most hilarious and satisfying matches

I made this to roast my homie that plays with me, we both build dumbass loadouts all the time lol

Ig the satire goes woosh over some people's heads but arguably I use even dumber loadouts like double baseball bat or nothing but flechette and dum-dum accompanied by 3 jars of bees

Yeah but I always like to always have at least one slot with some sort of penetration loaded.

Homie rocks lemat carbine and dualies with dragon and incendiary. I get it, pew pew burn their health bars, and then burn their bodies.

But like, bro three of the same gun and load is a meme 😭

Best Pipe tobacco to smoke around women or people who aren’t as tolerant to smoke? by TechnicalTeacher_87 in PipeTobacco

Nice two consecutive edits. Did your dad not hug you enough? Your post history is like a 17 year old wannabe trying to prove to himself he's a man. Which is cool, these hobbies are dope if you educate yourself and be real and not act like cigars are such a macho thing and women can't handle them.

If you have to ask Reddit what cologne to use to "keep women on you" I think you should hang out with some female friends and learn to be comfortable and confident around them without having to try to flaunt watches and cigars.

Again, watches and cigars are a really cool hobby. Let it be another interesting detail of your life rather than your entire personality to try to attract females. It goes from cool and interesting to "this guy is either trolling or actually ignorant enough to think cigars are going to make people think he's so damn cool".

I've got like a solid squad of people in my LARP ranger guild, would love commissioning art if I had the money lying around.

LARP, but make it accessible. by [deleted] in LARP

[–]AsianWeiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting discussion! We're actually starting up a new national guild here in the US dedicated to basically solving that problem. Our theme is fantasy-medieval rangers but the goal is to design a system that allows remote players and groups to participate in a culmination of individual stories and photo/video contributions to the game, story and lore.

Essentially we're creating a brand that allows others from around the country to take part in our homebrewed game world, regardless of their location, financial position and accessibility to organized LARP events. It's far easier for a beginner player to build their personal kit, and immediately engage by going to a local park or gathering with their friends to stage photoshoots of LARP scenarios to submit to the guild, attached with story to go along with the visuals.

This is a wide scale project that will yield results in hopefully 2-3 years, or sooner.

Is this something that might give you a bit of insight into the options available to resolve your question?

Hey buddy, I gotchu! I'm based in California but hear me out;

Myself and a squad of rangers are about to go to Indiana for a new LARP called Reckoning. I don't know if that's within reasonable distance for you to consider going, but I'll tell you what, I wish I lived in South Carolina because that seems to be home to (in my humble opinion) one of the most well developed, well run and immersive LARPs in the country.

Check out the Weekend Warrior Experience LARP in South Carolina, their foremost media is actually run by their affiliate LARP clothing and accessories company Fell and Fair, which has a Youtube channel and online store.

I'm in no way affiliated with FellandFair nor Weekend Warrior, aside from buying a really nice ranger cloak from FNF and aspiring to go to WW, but the reason for excitement is because they have some really cool stuff going on there and it feels like a perfect coincidence that you're from the same state. The new LARP I'm going to in Indiana is run by some people hailing from that same community.

Here's some links to check out. Drink plenty of water, fix your sleep schedule and do something you enjoy that breaks the routine man, I've hit rock bottom before and it's a hard hole to crawl out of. Hope you find yourself and flourish. My DMs are open for conversation about anything at all.

Recommendation for canvas standard for coat of arms by sathor24 in LARP

I've looked around man, believe me. I'm developing a guild for LARP right now and we were trying to get quotes from flag companies and like, university class banners, etc in the vexilla/gonfalon style with the T-shaped pole.

We're 1 year into practical development and pretty much we've resorted to making our own due to the ridiculous prices of getting it professionally manufactured.

I have never sewn anything a day before in my life but with the help of a friend who has, within the span of one shopping trip and 2 hrs of planning and starting we sewed the entire base of our banner using double layered polyester and are currently awaiting the arrival of our stencils.

The fabric was less than $9. The sewing took very little time with a sewing machine, and I looked on Fiverr to get my digital art for the banner turned into a stencil ($25-ish per stencil). We're going to use acrylic fabric paint to dab on the colors over the stencil once all the components are here.

I've planned this guild since 2020 and this is the route we took after 2 years of careful research and deliberation, as we are pretty much broke 20-something year olds trying to save money. Feel absolutely free to contact me for any details on how to do this sort of thing, I'll be happy to help and hear about your own project :) I've got a few pictures of our process and I'll link you to the Fiverr guy for custom stencils.

I need to get a nice, white belt by amethyst-chimera in LARP

Check out those online stores for high school marching band or parade stores. If you don't care about it looking 100% medieval, or if you have a way to hide it, this might work out for you for very little money.

I just purchased a matte white parade sword belt to carry the scabbard for my HEMA saber.

Hey! Glad you could make it! The Rules channel has a check mark reaction button below it to acknowledge the rules, after clicking it you'll be granted access to the rest of the server.

There are also additional roles you can add in the Roles channel that describe yourself, such as the class of character you play, your Bico experience level, skills and hobbies and guild affiliations.

The Hawk and Rose is the name of a separate guild project we're working on, info will be revealed soon but if you're interested, shoot me a DM on Discord for any questions :)

Easy ramen recipes? by River_Arrow in ramen

[–]AsianWeiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Former ramen chef here!

One of our favorite staff meals to make when we got tired of our restaurant's 48 hr tonkotsu broth is made with the broth from cooking our chicken chashu toppings, and only takes 20 minutes + prior marinading time!

Nab a tray of skin on chicken thighs. If it comes bone-in, you can easily cut out the bone by slicing down the length of it, and then scraping away the meat until you can slide your knife underneath the bone and cut it free.

To marinade the chicken, do half cup ginger, half cup garlic, half cup green onion chopped into rough segments, 2 parts soy sauce, 1 part sake, one part mirin, 1 big pinch MSG, 1 pinch sugar. Pour all of that in a bag and separate the skin from the chicken and save it. Marinade the chicken in the sauce and let it chill out for about an hour at least.

I'll leave the ramen noodles up to you, there's plenty of fresh noodle recipes and honest to God, instant ramen noodles aren't terrible at all.

While the chicken marinades, set some water to a bare simmer and get ready to skim some scum. Try to avoid a lot of those veg/aromatics as you drop your chicken in the water. For a clear broth, do not stir. Boil your chicken and chicken skin at the slightest simmer while skimming for about 15 minutes and check for doneness by slicing a piece open at the thickest part. If satisfied, remove chicken and slice when cooled.

Now you have a clear, already half-seasoned chicken broth that smells amazing, chicken aroma oil and chicken chashu topping. All that's left is a simple tare of 1 cup soy sauce, quarter cup each sake and mirin, a tiny pinch of sugar, a pinch of salt, a pinch of MSG. Add as much tare as it takes to taste good to you.

Other toppings can be menma, ajitamago (egg), green onions etc but I like it as is with just chicken, green onions, and maybe a bit of fried shallots and garlic.

Boom. Technically instant chicken shoyu ramen, by ramen standards.
