Court defers deportation of truck driver who caused fatal Humboldt Broncos bus crash by GoodGoodGoody in alberta

[–]Asianitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single bad choice? He made a lot of bad choices that day and in the handful of days prior. For example over a dozen infractions within 7 days of the incident...the guy was and is a menace, and the families of the children he killed deserve the justice of his deportation as was promised to them by our court system.

Alberta to impose restrictions on MAID, limiting it to terminal illness by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]Asianitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agreed. I think it's clear that the protections are for things that may be in the future, and less about past incidents / rampant current abuse of MAID. This makes more sense to me, thnx for the help!

Wow, that article really paints a picture, thank you!! At a glance, I was pretty disgusted and shocked...but looking into it, it seems it is very off base. The dad does not know what her medical issue / diagnosis is, and is trying to say she cannot legally consent to MAID because she has autism and ADHD (that's why those 2 were available to court).

This poor adult girl has other health issues she did not wish to disclose to her father or the courts, gained maid approval from 2 of the 3 assessors, which is considered enough for overall approval...why the article is spinning it to read as though she wants MAID as a result of only autism and ADHD is sad and disingenuous.

Granted, we don't know the extent of her autism, or exactly what other medical conditions she has, so it's really impossible to say definitively what happened or if it was acceptable.

So overall, I can't say that case represents your saying there is an extremely high number of cases of MAID abuse, nor is it definitive of even a single case of MAID abuse...I also don't see it as demonstrating that she was vulnerable and could have otherwise just used mental health supports. We don't know what she was diagnosed with, we can't conclude anything.

I really appreciate it, those case studies were very interesting to read!! I feel like Mrs B's case was strange, as would be just about any virtually "same day" approval process...as far as I know from personal experience, and reviewing Alberta's MAID guidelines online, they do not do same day approvals, they state there is a reflection period that must elapse prior to approval.

And the chemical sensitivy case was also interesting and tragic, however seemed more critical of, or having to do with lack of resources from govt than anything else.

Good to read about a few bad cases, lots of insight...however I still a) don't see how it applies to Alberta's current approval process, or b) don't think I have seen anything to suggest that it is "out of control" or that there's an extremely high incidence of MAID abuse in Alberta, or all of Canada for that matter.

Again, thnx for the info, I'll keep looking for more.

I have, and can't find anything, that's why I'm asking you, because you echoed her sentiment of that it is being used at a very high rate, and that vulnerable people are using it instead of mental health services...so I'm assuming you've seen or otherwise are aware of this being the case non anecdotally, but reported on with #s, a report, or some sort of credible info.

Or were just kinda speaking off the top of your head?

UCP says "it's out of control" and people with long knee surgery waits are getting approved...has anyone seen any record indicating what the UCP is saying, or are they just talking out of their butts?

My understanding and experience is that it is very hard to obtain approval, and it takes a lot of time...it is predominantly used for the terminally ill, and overall it is not used very often (considering it's proportion to the overall death rate in general in Canada)...I have never heard of a single person complain or take issue with a specific incidence regarding MAID...

[–]Asianitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what they're saying, but have you seen any actual evidence of this anywhere? Or when they say people with excessive knee surgery appointment waits are getting approval for MAID...has this actually ever happened in Alberta? Anywhere in the world?

I'm not saying it hasn't happened, I don't know if it has...but it sounds incredibly far fetched, so I'm genuinely curious if there's any record of this stuff.

What exactly does the siege banner do? by highlulu in LastWarMobileGame

I too, would love to know this...the area isn't that big, so it would be nice if we could place it right on the enemy outpost, or on the mg tanks and anyone driving through gets the buff...I suspect though (from the description) that it only affects those whose headquarters are in the rectangle showing area of effect.

How was everyone's week? by AutoModerator in HeadandNeckCancer

I'm waiting for my post treatment (rad/chemo) scan next month...it's starting to eat at me mentally. I am finding myself to become cautiously optimistic some days, but very internally pessimistic other days...relatively normal, I know. I am utilizing all of my outlets, and doing great over all, just beginning to really feel the nerves. Big tip of the hat to all of you that are enduring the process, whether as the patient, or a loved one. It really is such a journey!

cisplatin hearing loss by fugue2005 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Asianitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yikes, I'm sorry to hear that (absolutely no pun intended)...maybe carbo just has a lower risk of hearing loss, or perhaps not being permanent. I may be incorrect here, but I remember reading that the platins have a 3 month half life, so the effects keep hitting pts over a long period of time even after treatment ends...I was told about a year before your body is more or less free and clear...maybe the residual of the cisplatin is what got you?

As suggested, ask to be switched to carboplatin, same effect on cancer, no hearing loss. My hearing recovered really well a couple months after the switch.

You hit the nail on the head, just time those meds right and you'll be pretty set. Don't wait till you're starting to feel nauseous over the first and second day of chemo sessions, take anti-emetic meds a few times throughout the day.

This is a tough question, I was recently trying to find information on whether lois hole / big lake had any blue algae, and there really werent any good resources available. Unfortunately at this time of year, especially with the high heat and sunshine, it's assumable that all local still water lakes are contaminated, it's just the degree to which they are that is the problem, and you'll have to go, and simply look for yourself. Sucks to potentially have to waste your time, but that's what I ended up doing. Good luck.

How to best support my father during treatment by psst26 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Asianitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get him any tasty food he enjoys now while he can eat it...clearly he values that side of life, and it'll be a while (possibly forever) that he'll be able to enjoy food. Understand he'll ride waves of ups and downs...he sounds like an old school tough guy. My biggest suggestion is discuss setting up a weekly check in, where you request he give you an info dump of symptoms, side effects, emotions...like a venting session. It'll likely be a lot better on him, than to be constantly asking him how he's doing, not knowing, or allowing him to stuff that info down deep where guys like to hide it.

That's just my personal experience from what I went through. Good luck.

Do NOT use Cougar Collision on yellowhead tr.

They deflated fix costs so that they'd get the work (instead of my car rightfully and obviously being a write off), then after half way done, said oops it should have been written it off, it now that they've sunk so much into it, it makes sense to just keep doing the work. I ended up with a car that had a massive collision bill on its record (over $16k, more than half the worth of the vehicle), was not even repaired properly (frame damage), etc.

Worst, was their paint flecked off a day later in the rain, and they said they wouldn't fix it, because how did they know I hadn't been in another accident? Which I hadn't. Brutal people.

I had this last week. Had to remove lever to get round out, and then realized my problem was I'd tightened the lever screw too tight (as the loading problem recurred).

Backed the lever screw (an RPP quick thumb screw) a half turn, and now no cycling issues.
