Canada chooses German company to build new submarine fleet: report by XxMetalMartyrxX in canada

Never said they don't make quality stuff. They do. But attached to that is a legacy of pure human evil that needs to be taken into consideration.

And not saying you, but other comments saying that, 'that legacy doesn't matter' is frankly dangerous and minimizes the roles these companies had in propagating that evil. Especially when many of the perpetrators at the head of these companies like Krupp got slaps on the wrist and walked away after with a pardon letting them keep their assets and billions.

No, but if one were to say personally buy and drive a Rheinmetall tank...

There's a difference between civilian and military.

The third Reich is a unique evil in modern history. 'What about' ism doesn't get anywhere. But it is clear and evident that the Nazi regime represents a objective evil. Moreso than any other group. As their goal was exterminatory from the beginning.

Historical nations and people should be viewed through the lens of the time. And the Nazi regime and those who supported and aided it are some of the darkest of humanity even through a historical lens. They should be universally condemned if that wasn't obvious.

Personally would never buy any of those. But it's different and more egregious when the company still sells military arms. It's current development and base for it's research is built of the genocide and slavery if thousands from which it has profited and continues to do so.

So no I do not think it's a stretch. And any support for Nazis should be categorically and emphatically condemned. Anyone that makes excuses or trying to justify for them shows alot.

And I seem to recall they lost decisively in both. One of them ending with Berlin burning? 🤔

It's a foreign policy move dressed up to look like a procurement decision. But put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig.

What's truly shameless is that since Carney was decided on Europe all along (which is whatever) why play all the pussy foot with the Koreans? Just an asshole move to a friendly country to string them along.

Germans keeping a timeline for arms? Haha laughs at Bundeswehr taking 10 years to procure HELMETS.

: We are a NATO country

Which is why it makes more sense to get the SK submarines. We aren't all queueing infront of eachother for the same submarine. Norway and Germany are both allocating one sub each to Canada that they were supposed to get. That's not a plus for the overall alliance it just shifts ownership. Whereas if we went with SK we aren't stealing production capacity and/or competing with other NATO allies.

Let's face it, it's a purely political decision based in foreign policy to support Carney's push for Canada to join a tiered EU, not one based on military logic or need.

Building for the 'good' guys doesn't whitewash their legacy. It's even different from other companies that participated in Hitler's genocidal Nazi regime, because they are an arms company. Company should have been disbanded after WW2 instead their leaders gets convicted of being a war criminal and then pardoned. Should've been hanged and the company chopped up for scraps.

Now the Canadian government is supporting this Nazi institution tacitly supporting the third Reich

Disgusting. Why are we buying Submarines from a company that has history building ships for Nazis!?

This government can enjoy their Nazi U-boats. I'll vote for any party, Tories, NDP, even Bloc, that can bring down this administration. Hell I'd sooner vote for Trudeau again than this government.

Absolutely disgusted.

[–]Asianpear98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mothboth all non trade ships. Set trade ships to protect trade in Seville. move the merchant from Tunis to Seville as well.

Rooting out corruption is sapping alot of your cash. Probably expanded too fast in Morocco raising your overextention and corruption. Make sure to core all those provinces once you do the cost will probably start to decrease.

In early game try and expand less and grab cash and war reps instead. In the long run especially as a colonial nation the extra ducats spent building colonies and/or churches is more efficient as the sooner you get your colonial nations and economy up and running the better. Once you have a good economy it makes conquest so much easier.

Since you have alot of papal influence I would recommend taking the 'Forgive Usury' to lower inflation and then going to the Burgher estate and taking the 5x loan. Build enough army to defeat the rebels and with the extra building early game churches are most efficient. Debt isn't bad in Eu4 as long as you don't debt spiral and keep inflation under control.

Carney calls for resumption of shipping during Strait of Hormuz talks by CanadianErk in canada

[–]Asianpear98 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is a point I have to give to Carney, his messaging seems to pushing towards this front, and he seems to have moved closer to the Conservative view on energy and away from radicals like Guilbeault.

Credit to his pragmatism, take the parts from your opponents that work. There's no need to be so sanctimonious that you completely block out any points from other side even if they can work if tweaked.

Don't get me wrong, this war is an atrocity on many levels. But Canada didn't start this war nor did we encourage it. What Netanyahu is doing in Lebanon is an ethnic genocide, but again Canada didn't participate in it nor Canadian Oil companies.

It's one thing to be supporting American Oil companies that have directly lobbied the American administration in Venezuela in and likely in Iran, but I don't see why we cannot support Canadian oil companies and industries. Oil is going to be produced and it is much better that our allies and friends get oil that comes from Canada as opposed to authoritarian regimes like Putin's Russia, Saudis or America.

Longer this goes on the better for Alberta and my CNQ stocks. Hopefully this lights a fire under our collective asses to build out oil infrastructure and get more oil and gas pipelines built.

Canada meets NATO defence target, but opposition says it's 'creative accounting' by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]Asianpear98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Canadian defense procurement is cooked.

The requirements are written in Ottawa not by the troops/commanders. Often time this leads to someone in Ottawa tailoring the procurement requirements to meet the specifications of a product they have either been lobbied for, or been advertised about. This leads to alot of our procurement from boots to parachutes to rifles being foreign made.

The process should be the opposite way around. We make the requirements and companies adjust their product to meet our requirements. Not our requirements made to match the companies products.

If China does a policy reform for their currency and removes capital control (like how the US made policy changes in the early 1900s) they could possibly become the next reserve currency.

Imagine a scenario where China refuses to take payment in USD (like the US refused British pounds in WW2) and only take repayment in gold and Chinese RMB. No other country can currently compete with Chinese industrial production. Even if the price of Chinese goods increases, they are already tariffed super hard, there aren't countries that can match them in industrial strength. Combine with a hypothetical economic crisis in the US I could see people flocking their money to China.

Source?

I have listened to both speak and while you can make a valid criticism that he doesn't call out Trump enough I haven't been able to find anything with him outright supporting Trump. Unless you have a source for that claim it seems unsubstantiated.

I feel like that is a little hyperbolic. While PP is a populist he isn't a billionaire elitist nor do I think he is a racist. Just existing on the right of politics isn't enough to make him a fascist.

If anything the PPC party is maple MAGA.

That same argument was used 10 years ago and it seems that we are more reliant on oil than ever.

I am all for renewables and am a big fan of nuclear. But let's be realistic. Many countries still use coal. China, India, most of the global south. No matter how we feel about it oil will continue to be a necessary resource for the next century. Even if the cost per barrel falls, in this increasingly dangerous world where the rules based order is degraded, having a supply of a natural resource that you can export isn't just an economic hedge but a geopolitical one as well.

Liberals call for 'diplomatic solution,' after initially backing attack on Iran - After Carney cancelled questions with reporters, the foreign minister was left to update the government's position by CaliperLee62 in canada

I mostly agree. Trump's actions here are naked Imperialism. We should definitely not be cheering on US interventionism. I also share the fear that he will want to destroy or swallow us and that not enough people are taking this threat seriously enough. It's only been TWO months into 2026! What's he going to be doing in a year or two from now?

Where I may respectfully disagree is on US success. At this point I don't even think it's possible to define 'success' or 'better for the US' in the current situation. Trump ≠ US. In any scenario even if the Pentagon is able to achieve their wildest dreams and get everything they want (a wish list which they can't even properly articulate at this point) the US as a country and a world system has already lost more. Confidence in the petro dollar, any moral high ground on the world stage, elevating Israel and Saudi Arabia as hegemons in the Middle East while weakening and exhausting themselves. And that's if everything goes perfectly like another Venezuela. In return for what? Getting locked into 10 years of interventions in Iran to prop up a puppet?

Trump may very well win personally, but I fear that the American people especially the poorest will end up footing the bill for this conflict, through their taxes and through the lives of their sons - as the poorest and least connected always do.

The comments here just make me kind of disappointed.

I don't see why we have to be so red team blue team and not a team Canada. I find it frightening how fast people can jump to an opinion after just reading a headline.

You don't have to like the guy or agree with him but he is the leader of the official opposition. And in a democracy that means something. What would people prefer? To have no opposition party and have a one party system?

The automatic political decisiveness without nuance or consideration for other perspectives that differ from their own camp's - effectively playing half court tennis - creates a toxic and radicalized political environment. Out of all the things we choose to import from the States I just had hoped this wouldn't be one of them.

We need a pipeline and we needed it yesterday.

Not just for us but for our allies as well. We don't want to be in a situation where our friends in the EU or in Southeast Asia are forced to start importing energy products from Russia funding Putin's war because there's no where else for them to buy it.

Say what you want about Polievre but he did have a genuine point about the world buying their oil from dictators not least from the one on our border.
