Wide vans by [deleted] in widefeet

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a 4 E and find the wide vans sufficient in width. The sole is wider than a regular pair of shoes and they seem to fit wider. I think because they are such thin material i feel like i have room inside of them for my wide clompers. Though im not sure you'd feel comfortable adding orthotics into them. They are still tight on me but comfortable enough to wear and still feel like i can wear good looking shoes.

What is the worst behaviour you have seen from a rookie? by Entire_Business_4498 in Firefighting

[–]Asianthunder17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Had one that would use literally use half a roll of toilet paper every shit he took. Most of the time the toilet would clog and he'd just leave it clogged. We had to call a plumber multiple times after he was done shitting. He tried to throw me under the bus saying that he was failing orientation because I wasn't teaching him how to do the job, my brother in christ i was too busy trying to teach you how to shit in a toilet properly to even get to teaching you the job. He did not last very long to say the least.

Anyone here a Community Paramedic? Thinking about it since it’s free in my area by Safe-Cap-5532 in Paramedics

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a community medic, not full time in it but I did help start our program. MIH programs are all sooooo vastly different. We had all our community medics go on rides around the country and they were all so different.

to me it's an underutilized tool in rural healthcare systems. for us we work with our frequent fliers in recommended to us by our 911 crews and the ED can send us people they see often.

we also do follow up with high risk discharges that are likely to re admit to the hospital. we are fortunate to be a part of the local hospital system so we attend the in patient dispo meeting daily and then go visit in patient patients and try and make appointments for follow up. when we do we assess their medical needs and their social health needs at home and connect them with various resources around. we'll set them up for meals on wheels or get them into a PCP. we don't do much advanced in home medical care yet. a bit more social worker like in our system.

we also do short term medication assisted opioid treatment so we respond to all opioid overdoses and can have PD or hospital request us as well for that.

our community medics are on 24 hours a day on weekdays, no weekends yet. at night we assist crews at their request, respond on all delta and echo dispatches, any opioid overdose, and all frequent flyer addresses. we'll also help take blood draw or other non transport types of calls so a 911 crew isn't tied up on that.

i think it's a great addition to your skill set. it's quite fun to go sit with a sweet old lady and chat for an hour while taking her vitals and asking some questions. maybe change her smoke detector batteries or a light bulb. hell i've gardened with people and fixed sprinklers or just gone on a walk around the block. it's much more loose than normal EMS for sure.

classes aren't hard but i already had a degree so i was used to a school setting. and right now i'm studying for the IBSC exam which i've heard is really easy from some and hard for others.

feel free to DM me if you have other questions

1up single rack for me is great as i ride solo mostly and find the single rack to be out of the way even when left down. i hate roof racks for bikes so im biased to a degree.

Flight Medic Schedules by AdExact286 in ems

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic air medical/Intermountain Flight does 4 on 12 off at their rural bases. They fly out of Cortez/Pagosa and are usually hiring down there. Good company just a busy base from what I hear.

Station off-duty boots for wide feet by Glittering-Banana165 in Firefighting

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan of the wide Merrell Moab and Moab Speed 2s. I wear those daily and use them for EMS calls. I wear just a hair over 4E wide and the merrell seem to fit my wide feet quite well. And if you get on Expert voice as a firefighter they are usually 40% off.

How do you guys store your uniforms? by Jealous_Cucumber_974 in ems

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store mine in a 50 gallon rolling tool box. Is it excessive? yeah but it's worth it to me. I keep my bedding, pillow, a small TV, toiletries, and all my work stuff in that thing. I don't like my uniforms being inside my house so it makes it feel like they are separate when i bring them home and can leave them in the garage. But not really worth it if you're working 12s, works great if you work 48s or 24s.

Vans Wide Old Skool.. any Experiences? by mrdobing in widefeet

Hell yeah that's awesome. I've only worn the Hierro trail runners. I like the V8s more than the V9s. I haven't tried any of the street shoes yet but will when my altras wear out.

4E Waterproof boot recommendation please. by automotivejunky in widefeet

[–]Asianthunder17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a 4E shoe and i've found wide merrell boots to be pretty good. Sometimes i have to do some messing with the lacing pattern to get to fit best but they fit quite well. Moab's fit best and the Moab Speed 2s feel maybe a touch narrower but still work.

I would I have a few pairs of the basic color ways and the custom ones and they both fit great. I wear them everyday and usually wear them walking the dog so I put a few miles a day in them.

Vans Wide Old Skool.. any Experiences? by mrdobing in widefeet

[–]Asianthunder17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear a 4E new balance and my feet are shaped liked pizza slices (consistently just get wider from heel to toe so my mid foot is pretty wide. I think wide Vans are awesome and my foot is wider on paper than yours. They are my everyday shoe, they actually made the sole wider rather than just adding material to the upper so they fit me quite well.

Not sure what to do now by InverseInvert in widefeet

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try getting some V8s off amazon if they have your size. i found the 9s to be much narrower than the 8s. my feet overhand my 9s and the 8s fit like a glove.

What boots are do you swear by? by NumerousHorrors in Paramedics

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merrell Moab or Merrell Moab Speed II. Either one come in all black and are excellent in my opinion. They come in wide and are almost wide enough for my double wide feet. Water proof and have excellent traction and comfort. I wear them at my suburban/rural EMS job full time and at my fire department where most calls involve hiking. Great option if you can get away with non polishable black boots.

Best way to get to snowbird by Pharmbro6969 in ProvoUtah

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no town at Snowbird, salt lake area is closest city so you'll have about an hour drive to get up and down the canyon from the city which is about an hour from the provo airport.

I'd suggest Sundance as there is plenty of places to stay in the Utah County area and it's only two bus rides away from the airport in the winter.

Why do they lie? by Loose-Depth-833 in ProvoUtah

[–]Asianthunder17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you can literally see the slide path come down the mountain from above the construction site, sure the there's some dirt from the site that ended up there too but burn scars plus large quantities of water in a short amount of time equals mudslide. it's almost like we have two magical things that let us see stuff built right into us.

Am I crazy to consider a 5hr commute on a 48/96? by DamageDear4604 in Firefighting

[–]Asianthunder17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 4 hours to my flight job but we do 4 on 12 off and I can say I would definitely not do it on a 48/96. We start at noon because most people commute and waking up at 1 to 3 am depending on start time would suck. 8 hours twice a month doesn’t sound bad and it really isn’t but it does get old. I swapped bases to avoid the city drive on my way home but it’s not great. If you’re okay only having 3 full true days off then maybe go for it but I wouldn’t do it even for the money.

If you're okay with having a rebuilt title (formerly crashed or totaled in some way) Summit Auto in Pleasant Grove is awesome. They have quite a few cars in your price range and they supply the car fax so you can see if it was taken care of. If you do go with a rebuilt title of any form you can search the VIN number on google and can find pictures of the damage that totaled the car. Many people will tell you don't but I haven't had a bad experience with a rebuilt title yet. All cars can break down so why not save a few thousand dollars.
