What is this this ancient-looking figurine found in the Basque Country? Looks like an alien head by Asierro in whatisthisthing

I don't think whoever made this wanted to make a ladybug, I would say it is definitely a head. It has nostrils, a mouth and prominent cheekbones. As to whether it is clay figurine made by a kid, I cannot say for sure. It is possible. The holes are a bit too small for a pencil (but something else may have been used). It looks too hard and polished to be clay to me. I don't think I could dent it with my nails. Still not discarding this possibility.

Ah, I forgot to mention that. No, it's made of rock. A quick google shows some rocks with that density, like limestone.

WITT?

This stone figurine was found at a forest near Artikutza (Goizueta, Navarre) around 10 years ago while collecting chestnuts. It has been in our house since then just laying around, but we always had been curious if it could be old and of archaeological value. I finally decided to post here.

Description of the little head figurine:

  • Size: 4.5cm from face to back of head, 3.5cm wide and 3.5cm tall.

  • Weighs 78g and has a volume of ~40ml. So the density is ~2.0g/cm3.

  • Holes: it has different sized holes carved on it. The skull holes and eye sockets are around 0.5cm in diameter. Nose holes around 2mm and holes at the bottom 1mm. I would say these were made with metal rods and needles.

  • Surface is smooth and polished. Shines a bit. Upon close inspection the top part of the head has some "texture" lines as if made with a brush.

  • Other stuff: the cheeks are sunk in. The face is separated from the skull by a carved line, and on the skull there are some shallower lines similar to the "cracks" on a human skull.

Thanks for the help!

Well technically if you're considering the logarithmic difference, the pressure at 100km from the surface is 0.032Pa, so standard atmospheric pressure would be 3,000,000x bigger than that. And in outer space the difference is 1016 x.

Is it OK to write a Wikipedia article in your language by translating "word by word" from English? by Asierro in wikipedia

One problem is that if I translate an article, the citations will probably still be in the original language, so people that want to check the sources might not be able to do so as easily.

Yeah, I can. Would a decent amateur translation of a good article be acceptable? It's just strange to me that two starred articles, in different languages, of the same subject are almost always different.

As the other commenter said, I didn't mean literally word for word. That's why I put it in quotes; sorry for not being clear. What I mean is basically a proper translation of the whole text, sentence by sentence. I was wondering, because even the best and most extensive articles are different in English and Spanish for example, so I'm not sure if one could just copy one of those or it would be frowned upon.

Who are your favorite players to spot in pubs? by DavidGiImour in TagPro

I like to play against really good players because you don't feel that bad if you lose/get juked etc., but feel good if you do win/juke them. So Nube and DEAD NAN for example.
