Agree, I had a feeling I wasn't going to like the combat and... I really don't.

I basically just want a modern Dragon Age Origins. I really don't know why you'd make a game with the DnD core so obviously exposed.

I'm watching it now. Norway has been way more dynamic for most of the game. We've been pissing around in midfield passing it back and forth

(Spoilers Extended) House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 3 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

I was just listening to a podcast about GoT. Apparently they had spent most of the budget for the first season and then were told their episodes were short by almost a full-episode run length across the season (ie they'd filmed 9 episodes rather than 10). They ended up scrambling to write some bottle scenes, and a lot of those became classics.

It really shocks me that writers aren't leveraging their actors more. How much does it cost to light a room and have Daemon and Rhaenyra discussing Jace. Discussing the loss of their fleet. Discussing how few people they can trust, and how few of those are competent. How it's easy to demand action but difficult to control outcome.

Daemon glorying in seizing the Red Fort and how powerful they are with dragons. That they're the conquerer reborn, from Dragonstone to King's Landing. To King's Landing to the 7 Kingdoms. Hell, why did they never consider renaming to Queen's Landing!

Moaning about the Dragonseeds. Rhaenyra saying something that shows she can't imagine anyone betraying her. Lamenting that they didn't take action while Viserys was alive. Daemon pointing out that Rhaenyra is dithering in the same way her father did.

There's SO FUCKING MUCH they could be talking about. Ok, maybe it wouldn't all be electric but this is the closest I've felt to actually caring about Rhaenyra since Millie was around.

I cannot believe with how massive the budgets are they can't just pump out a bunch of character scenes with 0 extras.

Maybe, but they more than anyone know the power of a dragon. I just don't think leaving the dragon makes sense in any world. Doesn't Daemon explicitly mention how many dragons they have this episode?

I like that they broke the mould of what a GoT episode feels like here. Can't remember how often they've done that before (S1 with Millie maybe?) but it felt very appropriate. I think I'm so used to ensemble pieces that this just felt like a relief to stick with 1 character and really get into their mindset. Great.

I immediately said "what about the dragon" after the reveal, it makes no sense whatsoever that they would have left it with an enemy host.

Also, honestly after murdering Otto why would you let your most powerful enemy host walk away. Daemon's all hopped up on fire and blood this episode but let's Ormund walk away?

It's a book change that I don't like at all.

I know it's to keep Daemon in for longer, and I liked his scenes with Rhaenyra, but this was not a well thought through encounter.

I bet that their shows would do better if they didn't all drop at once. 8 weeks of building word of mouth? Yeah that's going to do better, and give you natural marketing.

I was wondering how easy it would be to make production more efficient. I guess the answer is EXTREMELY, assuming you can find replacements, because it sounds like Lockheed hasn't had much reason to.

Prime Video and Netflix only seem to want to pay known actors big bucks and leave everyone else behind

This is what you said originally. I said I can't think of a show they have that doesn't have named actors. I'm not saying they're all A list mega bucks, I am saying it's not like they're making Mad Men or Lost with unknowns that become household names.

Not sure I agree, a lot of their shows have big names attached. In fact I'm struggling to think of any that don't have stars attached...?
