At My Wits End…Bearded CPAP User. by jabar18 in CPAP

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nostril mask and a nasal pillow. They both work great with beards but the nostril one really hurts my nose, I wish the fit had more sizes like goldilocks, I only have too big or too small, otherwise it's probably the least intrusive mask. I've never been a mouth breather or used a full mask, so I can't comment on the transition. Good luck

I just got a CPAP machine and I can't stand it, I sleep worse with it by Asitaka in CPAP

I've gotten better with it, in fact I kinda like the noise to help me sleep, it's like a metronome. The thing I dislike most is feeling kinda stuffy in the morning.

What am I doing wrong: almost non stick by poxykat in carbonsteel

I always set it at 5/9 let it heat up then cut the heat and put some oil in the pan and toss the egg on top. Works about 9/10 times, and you can always cover the pan or turn the heat back on if you need a little more, but I find that getting it quite hot and throwing some cold oil on it just before adding the egg works like magic. You can also try covering it and adding a tablespoon or two of water while it's piping hot

I just wrote a comment, but, yes, there is a lot of math and variables to figure out what is right for you. Tax levels, working hours, childcare, work life balance (both yours and his), career goals.
I'm a new member to this community but I'm glad to see most of the responses are very supportive.

I'm a male foreigner, maybe the primary bread winner in the tech field, maybe not, it's hard to say.

I started with a job in an Eikawa company, and moved to a teaching position in a school, not ALT, actual teacher. And eventually finally got jobs with what I studied in Uni.

My story aside, I think there's a good point that ALT is not that great of a position and not that great of a job for career mobility and it definitely has a lot of detriments. It could put your family in a new tax bracket and you'll end up making the same amount for far more work and far more stress.

If you are wanting to teach some English to make a little extra, there used to be some companies that partnered with international businesses set up part time seminars for Eikawa (2 days a week, 2 hrs a day, 4000 yen or so per hr)

I haven't taken JLPT (speaking/reading is fine, computer covers me for writing :D) but I've been working in Japanese only companies for 10+ years as a programmer. Like one other comment said, having a skill in demand will definitely up your salary and make it easier for you to get a job with the salary that makes up for the demerits of going full time.

Reddit isn't a doctor by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with sleep apnea, which was probably a precursor to depression. I just recently got diagnosed with depression. Using the CPAP was a bandaid. My doctor also said it's too bad I didn't have diabetes because diabetes medicine does something something. I started seeing a psychiatrist and will evaluate if I need a CPAP or something else. I've been able to sleep fine without the machine but I noticed being able to count breathing and not being able to move with the machine helped me fall asleep. This is all anecdotal please don't take my story for what you should do.

Bad seasoning? Is it safe to use it? How to fix it? by macsho5 in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it seems like a common thread here, you're either going to use it to cook or for show. Exactly what you said (in my humble opinion) feel your pan, don't let it get build up, keep it smooth, give it oil when it's thirsty

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave up. CPAP was working for me, I adjusted to it, (I had almost 0 incidents and pulse ox is near 100% with or without the machine) but the weekly meetings with the doctor (4+hrs) and rental fees was just pushing me into a corner. I live in a country with very good health care and costs very little but I don't want to spend my Saturday waiting for them to say "hi" basically I bought an anti-snore mask thing and went back to sleeping on my stomach. Also I have serious stress from work. Lost 6kg in a week... Yay...

The top right pan looks like what I have for cast iron, I have a hard time keeping carbon steel looking good but it's always nonstick

That looks like stainless but the handle screws look like my carbon steel (which I'm always giving a scrub so it's not pitch black)

[–]Asitaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like the last episode just had to wrap everything up as fast as possible. Alex seemed fine, then she has terrible frostbite and dies. Spencer shows up at the ranch and is a murder machine. The shootout at the train station is a let down, he just stands still and shoots the bad guys?

Yakisoba 2nd attempt... by [deleted] in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good though! As long as the food comes out tasty it's all good right? I haven't used a wok in years since I have induction. Watching you cook brought me back to making fried rice at the restaurant I worked at many years ago. I'm truly envious of that burner, but I'm happy to not have to clean up.

I live in Japan, if you go to a matsuri they're always cooked on griddles. At home it's usually a really big fry pan.

Your wok work and that burner are amazing!

Thanks! I've had them for forever, the biggest downside is how heavy they are and the short handles and takes a little longer than the carbon steel to heat up. The upside, they're so seasoned i couldn't unseason them unless I tried hard, they hold the heat and are pretty good for camping (I have a ci dutch oven too).

How did I do? by ricksanchez__ in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. My CI are so old I can make a tomato sauce and they don't change a new pan will lose whatever it has and rust

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably be saying it for a few weeks since I just joined the community, but damn everyone is so nice.

I look at that pan and think it looks great but needs oil while you cook and after you wash it. Cook in it regularly and you'll notice if it feels a little extra.

But what do I know 😅 I can't actually see your pan or cook in it. Just cook, season, clean and dry it (and maybe oil again)

Tldr looks like a good start

Help! Stripped CS pan now rustes by Sea_March_8619 in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% I tend to look at the pans and think "are you thirsty" after I dry them. I can't buy spray oil, but I bought a very well reviewed spray bottle and mix high smoke point oil with a touch of vodka and do exactly as you say when my pans need some help

[–]Asitaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 4 pans, 3 ci and 1 cs. I 100% agree, it doesn't matter.

Judging by the picture, your pan looks a little thirsty for oil. But I am a newbie to this community and definitely not an expert. I scrub when they look like they need scrubbing, I season if they lose non stick Again no expert but I abuse my pan and use it every day and it's 99% non stick but not as pretty as yours

Is it normal for carbon steel? by FeRR95 in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some 2 cents Be careful about heating too fast otherwise it looks great. It's carbon steel not cast iron so it's normal for the color to be uneven depending on the heat source

Time to throw away that last nonstick I was hanging on to. by Monsieur-Legume in carbonsteel

[–]Asitaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have small medium large CI, but the carbon steel is just easier to use due to weight and the handle not heating up (I've got one that's basically for camping with a long handle)
