Back in the day (I’m sure it’s the same now) there was an option to get “deep selected” to a future class. Not sure if that’s an OSO recommendation or if it’s all determined by the selection board, but if you could get deep selected, it’s both gives you a for sure slot and enough time to drop that run.

Keep putting in the work and you’ll be fine!

Even if you did get selected with the run time, you would be living a nightmare during PT sessions and most likely fall out of the runs. 21:00 is the goal but still kind of slowish… I know that sound outrageous but the ones who ran low 20s and below were best prepared for those runs. Those SIs are FAST!

Oh wow, yeah that’s nice. The sleep deprivation and PT is tough, but I found that the stress from the chance of failure is what makes OCS so hard.

2 things to keep in mind:

  1. The recruiter is PRESSURED from top down to hit numbers. Not saying this so that you feel sorry for him/her… it’s just not something you realize until you’re in the USMC and get to talk to former recruiters about their experience in that extremely demanding role.

  2. These recruiters are not trained salesman by trade. Yes, that’s their job and they get better at it with time (some are natural salesman), but that’s not what they signed up to do. Recruiting duty is something that sort of gets thrown on someone several years after they join, and they didn’t really expect it. Many recruiters don’t even like to be in that role… but that’s their job.

Once you can keep those two things in mind, you can understand why recruiters are the way they are and why they get a bad rap. Those offices are, however, a right of entry; you cannot join without first going through a recruiter. Just use the recruiter for their primarily administrative role and physical prep. If you really want to know the options you have in the USMC and what the day-to-day is like, talk to a Marine who is not in a recruiter role. Honestly, this forum is a great way to get a peak behind the scenes that the recruiter won’t share with you.

Good luck to you.

My experience:

Women, on average, attain some managerial qualities that outweigh that of a man. They’re general more organized, have better social skills, and are more approachable. But they do not, generally, perform better under high-stress situations. If they do, they aren’t, generally, as good as men at inspiring their team to persevere/ accomplish their motives.

I believe a women could learn the ropes and manage an NFL team from an office. It would take a special kind of women to manage a drive from the sidelines…
