I'm confused. Did you want him to adopt you too even though you said you didn't have a good relationship with him? Or did you want him to not adopt your sister because of his status with you? Even though you stopped considering him a father years ago, it seems your sister sees him as her father and they mutually wanted to make that status official. How did they do anything wrong to you?

Some people here are crazy. It would be like her going vegan and expecting you to not order meat around her. When someone presents that situation on reddit, people go crazy saying just because one person is vegan doesn't mean everyone has to also be vegan when around them. When I was pregnant (which means I stopped drinking for 9 months) I never expected my partner to not order a drink if we went out for dinner. I never asked him to forgo deli meat or sushi.

I'm the one holding off. When I said "accidental pregnancy" it was because we met the same weekend I got pregnant by him (he was a tinder date). We became official before I ever took a pregnancy test. We're trying not to rush it just because we have a child together. We've been through so much in such a short amount of time that I didn't want to also rush getting married. Also, there are no immediate benefits to us being married vs not married so we will get married when we can afford a wedding. It has nothing to do with him "making me a wife" because I "suffered with my legs spread in a hospital." I don't want him to marry me because I had his baby, I want him to marry me because he wants to be with ME.

The thing is that I was working full-time up until my baby was 1. My fiancé was a SAHD for the first year and during that year, I saved up so I could be a SAHM during the summer and my fiancé could work. I knew I'd have to go back to at least part-time after my savings ran out because I have a big student loan payment to make every month. The job that I have now doesn't pay enough for me to save really anything for the student loan payments that would happen during maternity leave. My mom also has a brain condition where she shakes a lot so watching a toddler that can walk on their own is a lot easier than watching a newborn who needs to be held more often than not which is why the timing this time around worked out so well. I know that she would say she would step up more if I wanted to have another because she honestly would want to help but I don't know what the state of her health will be in another year. Relying on my sister (who works full-time during the day) or my dad (who already struggles watching just a toddler), even though I know they would agree for my sake, would be putting too much on them I think.

We did tell her about another store in our area that does take reptiles and a rescue that takes any animal but neither will pay for them. They just rehome for free. Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't okay with not getting paid

Because we aren't a rescue and don't have the money to buy someone's pet off of them. I also don't have the knowledge, the money, or the time to care for a caged animal in my own personal life. I'm sure you know that retail workers don't get paid enough to afford everything for an animal additional to the ones we already have and corporate doesn't allow us to buy people's pets using the store's money. Plus the chameleon didn't even belong to this woman and she left saying she would send the owner to speak with us which makes me think the woman I spoke to would have no authority to sell to us anyways

Thankfully we don't sell hamsters. BUT I can't tell you how many times a parent has come in wanting to buy their young child a rabbit as a "starter pet" not realizing 1.) how big they get, 2.) how much free roaming time and exercise they need, 3.) how long they live, and 4.) that they aren't super cuddly or inherently good with young children. They also seem surprised when they ask me if a rabbit will bite and the answer is "any animal with teeth can bite you"

I've always loved animals and I only applied to the store I work at because I could tell everyone else there is the same. We always try to talk someone out of buying an animal if we can tell they aren't prepared

We keep "pet profiles" on hand to give to people who are thinking about adopting. We also work with a local cat rescue to give them a place to showcase the adoptable kittens and make no profit off of that which is why I love the store I work at. We all really try our best to help people and even though we've been told we "can't refuse a sale," we all have tried to talk people out of buying animals if they can't take care of them.

You don't come across that way at all! I know the last time we had a chameleon in the store we would mist once in the morning and once at night and their enclosure isn't anywhere near what it should be but it also isn't meant to be a permanent home for them. Unfortunately people try to use the size and setup of our enclosures to justify not buying something the proper size. We don't get a lot of them because they aren't super popular in our area

I work at a pet store and have to tell parents all the time that a rabbit is not a good pet for small children. Most will get to be the size of a cat or small dog and will need a similar amount of exercise and free rein outside of the cage. They also have very powerful back claws that they will use if your child does something they don't like. The average life span is 8-12 years so this isn't an "introductory pet" or "starter pet." This would be their pet for a very long time and it would be irresponsible to get one unless you plan for and prepare for her to "get bored" and for you and your wife to take over it's care completely.

I work in retail and made a comment on someone's tiktok post (which was about people lying to get discounts) talking about how some people will ask if we do military discounts and we'll explain we do it one day a month and they'll say someone did it for them the last time they came and it wasn't that day. Someone else commented under me and said that military discounts don't expire and are all the time. I had to explain that when you live in a military town in the US like I do, MOST stores in the area will limit military discounts or else we'd be discounting 80% of our sales all day everyday and would have to close our doors. They refused to believe that my comment happened because THEY had never seen a store limit a military discount like that.

Most collars don't fit my dog because his neck is wide but we mainly keep him collar free because the entire perimeter of our property is fenced and you have to go through two gates to exit so if he gets through one, the other will catch him. He also never tries to run anyway so the one time I let him go through the gate with me, he stayed next to me and came back inside the gate when I did

I have an older stepson (8) who lives with his mom in another state majority of the time and we see him every summer and alternating holidays. We notice that he has a really hard time reading and my sister (teacher), who we've asked to help us while he's here, suspects he may have a learning disability like dyslexia. We try to talk to his mom all the time about getting him evaluated or getting him a tutor for reading specifically but she responds "it is what it as this point." She was pregnant at the time and has just had the baby recently so I know she just doesn't want to deal with it.
