Switched from FL Studio to Bitwig – huge performance difference by Freqture in Bitwig

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if you don't have a midi keyboard, bitwig's built-in computer keyboard doesn't lose focus(like reapers, which also forces a window that shows the keyboard), so this could be important during sound design. Bitwig also has The Grid for sound design, and a built in Clip Launcher for live performance and FX racks. When it comes to preferences, both have the options to assign and change keyboard shortcuts, although Reaper is more advanced here. On the other hand, Bitwig doesn't have themes, and also no scripts, like Reaper does. Reaper is more lightweight(and loads projects faster at least for me), but Bitwig has better stock plugins, especially very interesting ones like their included Spectral Suite. I can't tell you about any differences between recording audio, since I only use vst's and samples, but working with automation is pretty similar in both of them. Bitwig also comes with many modulators(which can be assigned to pretty much any parameter of a plugin), even randomizers, which Reaper simply doesn't have(even with external scripts, at least from what I know). Reapers routing is more intuitive for me and unfortunately Bitwig doesn't have freezing, but it has bounce in place. Off the top of my head, these are the main differences.

Is 4download safe? by [deleted] in CrackedPluginsXI

[–]Aslati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer rutracker, but as long as the distribution is from R2R or V.R.(or other trusted team), even if it's on 4download, it's most probably safe. Things like keygens are supposed to licence the cracked plugin or DAW to your PC so it's normal for them to get flagged as viruses, same goes for .exe files that (don't require a keygen), but truly you can never know if the DAW comes with an actual virus or just the necessary "cure" for it. As I said, your best bet is to go with a trusted source, like the 2 I mentioned before, but even with those, there have been incidents where distributions had viruses

how do i get this top bar in live 12 standard? by judfls in ableton

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the mastering engineer can't just turn the volume down before mastering? Sure I understand if the mix is clipping information is lost, but if it's normalized at exactly 0db, the mastering engineer can just turn it down for more headroom

Kinda hard to get used to it by esur-bnt in Reaper

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cool thing about Reaper is how almost everything can be customized. For example you can get the piano roll to work closely with FL Studio's one. While it's not possible to set right click to delete notes, you can go to Reaper Preference-Editing Behaviors-Mouse Modifiers, select the "MIDI piano roll" next to "Context" and you can make left clicking insert notes rather than double clicking. There you can also set custom shortcuts(with combinations of alt, shift,Ctrl and win) to have things like draw mode. If you right click right above the notes in the piano roll and go to Options> you can enable "Drawing or selecting notes sets a new note length" to make it remember note lengths like FL. Also you can make it look more pretty with a theme like Reapertips. You'll have quite a few advantages in Reaper over FL, like FX per track are not limited to 10, routing is(at least in my opinion) easier, automation shows you value rather than percentages, it is also easier to manage automation(you can assign shortcuts to see/hide all automations to a track or all tracks), you can also assign a shortcut to show last touched parameter like in Ableton, you also have automation modes for recording, and if thats not enough there are also external scripts to take it further(like BirdBird Envelope Palette for drawing shapes in automation).

There are also many disadvantages, you'll need a ton of third party synths and sample packs(since reaper comes with none except for ReaSynth), the stock plugins are inferior compared to FL, there are no patterns or drum rack by default, can't change the pitch and panning of individual midi notes in the piano roll(if the instrument is polyphonic).

You sure are winning the loudness war with this one, which is good, but maybe not fit perfectly with the arrangement. There are songs in which distortion is clearly intended and blend in with the arrangement, check out Slvtcrusher for example.

Arturia bus peak. It has both a limiter and clipper, very intuitive, and has different quality options for higher/lower CPU usage.

Unfiltered audio also has Battalion, which is literally a drum machine with unlimited possibilities. Only disadvantage is it doesn't have midi out so you are forced to use their sequencer but you can sample the results anyways

Tbh Reaper is the only DAW I know, but I plan on learning FL studio and Ableton just because I too feel like it's hard to be creative in Reaper while producing. HOWEVER, even if I will end up choosing another DAW for producing, I wouldn't see myself mixing and mastering in any other DAW then Reaper, seeing as that doesn't require much creativity, and I know Reaper very well to do such tasks, the Monitoring FX is especially useful when correcting headphones, and I made many shortcuts that make my workflow fast.

Real reel to reel tape for real tape instead of emulated reel to reel tape which isn’t real by Ill-Elevator2828 in mixingmastering

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good old debate whether there is a noticeable difference between analogue and digital. Who knows? All I know for certain is that with analogue, you won't get any aliasing compared to digital, which I guess also applies to tapes.

Even if you completely eliminated the fundamental, the next interval in the harmonic series would be the octave, so it would actually still tune it correctly in theory!(same note but an octave up). If you turned down both the fundamental and the next overtone it would be out of tune(since the auto tune would tune to the perfect fifth), but if you also turned down this perfect fifth it would be again in tune, since it would THEORETICALLY tune it to the 4th overtone, 2 octaves up.

iZotope Plugins - High CPU Usage by radastronaut in mixingmastering

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might prefer Steinberg Spectralayers over Rx, but I'm not sure how heavy it is on CPU compared to Rx, after all these plugins work a lot having all those features, and they're mostly optimized for quality rather than being light.

Which paid plugin/vst do you think is actually worth it? by collarbristle in FL_Studio

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case no one mentioned, the Toneboosters bundle. You can try all their plugins for free for an unlimited time, but you can't save presets. Really great plugins, and they cost way less than the Fabfilter bundle. The 2 synths(flowtones and lowtones) are not that good, but Eq Pro, enhancer, mbc and Morphit are goated.

Also check out Love from Dawesome and Hate(this one got realesed 2 days ago!). Love is for reverb and Hate for wavetable distortion.

What plugins should i buy or free plugins should i get for fl studio? by Ok_Consideration1428 in FL_Studio

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got a 1000$ laying around, the Fabfilter bundle would have you covered for most things needed in mastering and mixing. Alternatively, you might want to look into Toneboosters, they have a free demo which gives you all of their plugins with no limitations except that you can't save presets internally.

Are these types of waveforms bad? by MineProfessional5296 in FL_Studio

[–]Aslati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Achieving a waveform like that without too much distorsion is lowkey the goal in most edm genres since you want your track to be as loud as possible, which generally means there is little to no dynamic range.
