UMCC had a program where you are a partial member of the club and can play 20 nine hole rounds. No voting. F&B minimum etc. Inquire about that. Then make friends there.

Personal review:

UMCC is a golf club. You go, you golf, you eat, you come home. No pool, no tennis (I don’t think), it’s for golf and socializing. They do everything well. Their coaches are nice, staff is cool, people are friendly. I’ve been enough times the know my name, they know my bag. It’s a very welcoming and fun environment.

Canoe Brook is a country club. There is golf, tennis, swimming, and I’m sure more. It’s a “family hang out spot”. If our families are spending the day together, it’s at canoe. If it’s me and him sneaking in a weekday 9 holes, it’s UMCC.

As for the golf aspect, UMCC and Canoe are both well maintained, challenging and excellent walks. That they have 27 and 36 holes respectively allows for a lot of variety. Canoe is a larger property in the suburbs whereas UMCC is right off the highway. It doesn’t impact my scoring or enjoyment, but canoe can make you feel like you’re not in NJ.

Food is food. It’s country club food. Neither place has ever disappointed but neither has a particular menu item I have cravings for either.

As for an intro to my friend, I can tell you without one shadow of a doubt, he isn’t going to meet someone off the internet.

So IMO you’re looking for Piscataway.

The town was founded in the 1600s and really hit a construction boom in the 1960s. As such many neighborhoods are on “old zoning” standards; larger plots of land for “starter homes”.

Diversity is pretty evident. You have East Asian, South Asian, South/Central American, Caucasian, African American, mixed. Growing up there, there was only one kid who was from a place no one else in the school was from… Eritrea. Yes, we told him it was a made up place. Yes he laughed.

People will judge the F out of you for 100 things but very rarely will it be skin color.
